Psalms 78

मेरे भक्तों, तुम मेरे उपदेशों को सुनो। उन बातों पर कान दो जिन्हें मैं बताना हूँ।

Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

मैं तुम्हें यह कथा सुनाऊँगा। मैं तुम्हें पुरानी कथा सुनाऊँगा।

I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

हमने यह कहानी सुनी है, और इसे भली भाँति जानते हैं। यह कहानी हमारे पूर्वजों ने कही।

Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

इस कहानी को हम नहीं भूलेंगे। हमारे लोग इस कथा को अगली पीढ़ी को सुनाते रहेंगे। हम सभी यहोवा के गुण गायेंगे। हम उन के अद्भुत कर्मो का जिनको उसने किया है बखान करेंगे।

We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

यहोवा ने याकूब से वाचा किया। परमेश्वर ने इस्राएल को व्यवस्था का विधान दिया, और परमेश्वर ने हमारे पूर्वजों को आदेश दिया। उसने हमारे पूर्वजों को व्यवस्था का विधान अपने संतानों को सिखाने को कहा।

For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

इस तरह लोग व्यवस्था के विधान को जानेंगे। यहाँ तक कि अन्तिम पीढ़ी तक इसे जानेगी। नयी पीढ़ी जन्म लेगी और पल भर में बढ़ कर बड़े होंगे, और फिर वे इस कहानी को अपनी संतानों को सुनायेंगे।

That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

अत: वे सभी लोग यहोवा पर भरोसा करेंगे। वे उन शाक्तिपूर्ण कामों को नहीं भूलेंगे जिनको परमेश्वर ने किया था। वे ध्यान से रखवाली करेंगे और परमेश्वर के आदेशों का अनुसरण करेंगे।

That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

अत: लोग अपनी संतानों को परमेश्वर के आदेशों को सिखायेंगे, तो फिर वे संतानें उनके पूर्वजों जैसे नहीं होंगे। उनके पूर्वजों ने परमेश्वर से अपना मुख मोड़ा और उसका अनुसरण करने से इन्कार किया, वे लोग हठी थे। वे परमेश्वर की आत्मा के भक्त नहीं थे।

And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

एप्रैम के लोगे शस्त्र धारी थे, किन्तु वे युद्ध से पीठ दिखा गये।

The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

उन्होंने जो यहोवा से वाचा किया था पाला नहीं। वे परमेश्वर के सीखों को मानने से मुकर गये।

They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

एप्रैम के वे लोग उन बड़ी बातों को भूल गए जिन्हें परमेश्वर ने किया था। वे उन अद्भुत बातों को भूल गए जिन्हें उसने उन्हें दिखायी थी।

And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

परमेश्वर ने उनके पूर्वजों को मिस्र के सोअन में निज महाशक्ति दिखायी।

Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

परमेश्वर ने लाल सागर को चीर कर लोगों को पार उतार दिया। पानी पक्की दीवार सा दोनों ओर खड़ा रहा।

He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

हर दिन उन लोगों को परमेश्वर ने महा बादल के साथ अगुवाई की। हर रात परमेश्वर ने आग के लाट के प्रकाश से राहा दिखाया।

In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

परमेश्वर ने मरूस्थल में चट्टान को फाड़ कर गहरे धरती के निचे से जल दिया।

He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

परमेश्वर चट्टान से जलधारा वैसे लाया जैसे कोई नदी हो!

He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

किन्तु लोग परमेश्वर के विरोध में पाप करते रहे। वे मरूस्थल तक में, परमपरमेश्वर के विरूद्ध हो गए।

And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

फिर उन लोगों ने परमेश्वर को परखने का निश्चय किया। उन्होंने बस अपनी भूख मिटाने के लिये परमेश्वर से भोजन माँगा।

And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

परमेश्वर के विरूद्ध वे बतियाने लगे, वे कहने लगे, “कया मरुभूमि में परमेश्वर हमें खाने को दे सकता है

Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

परमेश्वर ने चट्टान पर चोट की और जल का एक रेला बाहर फूट पड़ा। निश्चय ही वह हमको कुछ रोटी और माँस दे सकता है।”

Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

यहोवा ने सुन लिया जो लोगों ने कहा था। याकूब से परमेश्वर बहुत ही कुपित था। इस्राएल से परमेश्वर बहुत ही कुपित था।

Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

क्यों? क्योंकि लोगों ने उस पर भरोसा नहीं रखा था, उन्हें भरोसा नहीं था, कि परमेश्वर उन्हें बचा सकता है।

Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

किन्तु तब भी परमेश्वर ने उन पर बादल को उघाड़ दिया, उऩके खाने के लिय़े नीचे मन्ना बरसा दिया। यह ठीक वैसे ही हुआ जैसे अम्बर के द्वार खुल जाये और आकाश के कोठे से बाहर अन्न उँडेला हो।

Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

किन्तु तब भी परमेश्वर ने उन पर बादल को उघाड़ दिया, उऩके खाने के लिय़े नीचे मन्ना बरसा दिया। यह ठीक वैसे ही हुआ जैसे अम्बर के द्वार खुल जाये और आकाश के कोठे से बाहर अन्न उँडेला हो।

And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

लोगों ने वह स्वर्गदूत का भोजन खाया। उन लोगों को तृप्त करने के लिये परमेश्वर ने भरपूर भोजन भेजा।

Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

फिर परमेश्वर ने पूर्व से तीव्र पवन चलाई और उन पर बटेरे वर्षा जैसे गिरने लगी।

He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

तिमान की दिशा से परमेश्वर की महाशक्ति ने एक आँधी उठायी और नीला आकाश काला हो गया क्योंकि वहाँ अनगिनत पक्षी छाए थे।

He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

वे पक्षी ठीक डेरे के बीच में गिरे थे। वे पक्षी उन लोगों के डेरों के चारों तरफ गिरे थे।

And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

उनके पास खाने को भरपूर हो गया, किन्तु उनकी भूख ने उनसे पाप करवाये।

So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

उन्होंने अपनी भूख पर लगाम नहीं लगायी। सो उन्होंने उन पक्षियों को बिना ही रक्त निकाले, बटेरो को खा लिया।

They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

सो उन लोगों पर परमेश्वर अति कुपीत हुआ और उनमें से बहुतों को मार दिया। उसने बलशाली युवकों तो मृत्यु का ग्रास बना दिया।

The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

फिर भी लोग पाप करते रहे! वे उन अदूभुत कर्मो के भरोसा नहीं रहे, जिनको परमेश्वर कर सकता है।

For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

सो परमेश्वर ने उनके व्यर्थ जीवन को किसी विनाश से अंत किया।

Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

जब कभी परमेश्वर ने उनमें से किसी को मारा, वे बाकि परमेश्वर की ओर लौटने लगे। वे दौड़कर परमेश्वर की ओर लौट गये।

When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

वे लोग याद करेंगे कि परमेश्वर उनकी चट्टान रहा था। वे याद करेंगे कि परम परमेश्वर ने उनकी रक्षा की।

And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

वैसे तो उन्होंने कहा था कि वे उससे प्रेम रखते हैं। उन्हेंने झूठ बोला था। ऐसा कहने में वे सच्चे नहीं थे।

Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

वे सचमुच मन से परमेश्वर के साथ नहीं थे। वे वाचा के लिये सच्चे नहीं थे।

For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

किन्तु परमेश्वर करूणापूर्ण था। उसने उन्हें उनके पापों के लिये क्षमा किया, और उसने उनका विनाश नहीं किया। परमेश्वर ने अनेकों अवसर पर अपना क्रोध रोका। परमेश्वर ने अपने को अति कुपित होने नहीं दिया।

But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

परमेश्वर को याद रहा कि वे मात्र मनुष्य हैं। मनुष्य केवल हवा जैसे है जो बह कर चली जाती है और लौटती नहीं।

For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

हाय, उन लोगों ने मरूभूमि में परमेश्वर को कष्ट दिया! उन्होंने उसको बहुत दु:खी किया था!

How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

परमेश्वर के धैर्य को उन लोगों ने फिर परखा, सचमुच इस्राएल के उस पवित्र को उन्होंने कष्ट दिया।

Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

वे लोग परमेश्वर की शक्ति को भूल गये। वे लोग भुल गये कि परमेश्वर ने उनको कितनी ही बार शत्रुओं से बचाया।

They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

वे लोग मिस्र की अद्भुत बातों को और सोअन के क्षेत्रों के चमत्कारों को भूल गये।

How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

उनकी नदियों को परमेश्वर ने खून में बदल दिया था! जिनका जल मिस्र के लोग पी नहीं सकते थे।

And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

परमेश्वर ने भिड़ों के झुण्ड भेजे थे जिन्होंने मिस्र के लोगों को डसा। परमेश्वर ने उन मेढकों को भेजा जिन्होंने मिस्त्रियों के जीवन को उजाड़ दिया।

He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

परमेश्वर ने उनके फसलों को टिड्डों को दे डाला। उनके दूसरे पौधे टिड्डियो को दे दिये।

He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

परमेश्वर ने मिस्त्रियों के अंगूर के बाग ओलों से नष्ट किये, और पाला गिरा कर के उनके वृक्ष नष्ट कर दिये।

He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

परमेश्वर ने उनके पशु ओलों से मार दिये और बिजलियाँ गिरा कर पशु धन नष्ट किये।

He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

परमेश्वर ने मिस्र के लोगों को अपना प्रचण्ड क्रोध दिखाया। उनके विरोध में उसने अपने विनाश के दूत भेजे।

He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

परमेश्वर ने क्रोध प्रकट करने के लिये एक राह पायी। उनमें से किसी को जीवित रहने नहीं दिया। हिंसक महामारी से उसने सारे ही पशुओं को मर जाने दिया।

He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

परमेश्वर ने मिस्र के हर पहले पुत्र को मार डाला। हाम के घराने के हर पहले पुत्र को उसने मार डाला।

And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

फिर उसने इस्राएल की चरवाहे के समान अगुवाई की। परमेश्वर ने अपने लोगों को ऐसे राह दिखाई जैसे जंगल में भेड़ों कि अगुवाई की है।

But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

वह अपनेनिज लोगों को सुरक्षा के साथ ले चला। परमेश्वर के भक्तों को किसी से डर नहीं था। परमेश्वर ने उनके शत्रुओं को लाल सागर में हुबाया।

And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

परमेश्वर अपने निज भक्तों को अपनी पवित्र धरती पर ले आया। उसने उन्हें उस पर्वत पर लाया जिसे उसने अपनी ही शक्ति से पाया।

And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

परमेश्वर ने दूसरी जातियों को वह भूमि छोड़ने को विवश किया। परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक घराने को उनका भाग उस भूमि में दिया। इस तरह इस्राएल के घराने अपने ही घरों में बस गये।

He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

इतना होने पर भी इस्राएल के लोगों ने परम परमेश्वर को परखा और उसको बहुत दु:खी किया। वे लोग परमेश्वर की आज्ञाओं का पालन नहीं करते थे।

Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

इस्राएल के लोग परमेश्वर से भटक कर विमुख हो गये थे। वे उसके विरोध में ऐसे ही थे, जैसे उनके पूर्वज थे। वे इतने बुरे थे जैसे मुड़ा धनुष।

But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

इस्राएल के लोगों ने ऊँचे पूजा स्थल बनाये और परमेश्वर को कुपित किया। उन्होंने देवताओं की मूर्तियाँ बनाई और परमेश्वर को ईर्ष्यालु बनाया।

For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

परमेश्वर ने यह सुना और बहुत कुपित हुआ। उसने इस्राएल को पूरी तरह नकारा!

When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

परमेश्वर ने शिलोह के पवित्र तम्बू को त्याग दिया। यह वही तम्बू था जहाँ परमेश्वर लोगों के बीच में रहता था।

So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

फिर परमेश्वर ने उसके निज लोगों को दूसरी जातियों को बंदी बनाने दिया। परमेश्वर के “सुन्दर रत्न” को शत्रुओं ने छीन लिया।

And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

परमेश्वर ने अपने ही लोगों (इस्राएली) पर निज क्रोध प्रकट किया। उसने उनको युद्ध में मार दिया।

He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

उनके युवक जलकर राख हुए, और वे कन्याएँ जो विवाह योग्य थीं, उनके विवाह गीत नहीं गाये गए।

The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

याजक मार डाले गए, किन्तु उनकी विधवाएँ उनके लिए नहीं रोई।

Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

अंत में, हमारा स्वामी उठ बैठा जैसे कोई नींद से जागकर उठ बैठता हो। या कोई योद्धा दाखमधु के नशे से होश में आया हो।

Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

फिर तो परमेश्वर ने अपने शत्रुओं को मारकर भगा दिया और उन्हें पराजित किया। परमेश्वर ने अपने शत्रुओं को हरा दिया और सदा के लिये अपमानित किया।

And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

किन्तु परमेश्वर ने यूसुफ के घराने को त्याग दिया। परमेश्वर ने इब्राहीम परिवार को नहीं चुना।

Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

परमेश्वर ने यहूदा के गोत्र को नहीं चुना और परमेश्वर ने सिय्योन के पहाड़ को चुना जो उसको प्रिय है।

But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

उस ऊँचे पर्वत पर परमेश्वर ने अपना पवित्र मन्दिर बनाया। जैसे धरती अडिग है वैसे ही परमेश्वर ने निज पवित्र मन्दिर को सदा बने रहने दिया।

And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

परमेश्वर ने दाऊद को अपना विशेष सेवक बनाने में चुना। दाऊद तो भेड़ों की देखभाल करता था, किन्तु परमेश्वर उसे उस काम से ले आया।

He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

परमेश्वर दाऊद को भेड़ों को रखवाली से ले आया और उसने उसे अपने लोगों कि रखवाली का काम सौंपा, याकूब के लोग, यानी इस्राएल के लोग जो परमेश्वर की सम्पती थे।

From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

और फिर पवित्र मन से दाऊद ने इस्राएल के लोगों की अगुवाई की। उसने उन्हें पूरे विवेक से राह दिखाई।

So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
