Job 38

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

Тоді відповів Господь Йову із бурі й сказав:

Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

Хто то такий, що затемнює раду словами без розуму?

Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

Підпережи но ти стегна свої, як мужчина, а Я буду питати тебе, ти ж Мені поясни!

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Де ти був, коли землю основував Я? Розкажи, якщо маєш знання!

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Хто основи її положив, чи ти знаєш? Або хто розтягнув по ній шнура?

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

У що підстави її позапущувані, або хто поклав камінь наріжний її,

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

коли разом співали всі зорі поранні та радісний окрик здіймали всі Божі сини?

Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

І хто море воротами загородив, як воно виступало, немов би з утроби виходило,

When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

коли хмари поклав Я за одіж йому, а імлу за його пелюшки,

And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

і призначив йому Я границю Свою та поставив засува й ворота,

And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

і сказав: Аж досі ти дійдеш, не далі, і тут ось межа твоїх хвиль гордовитих?

Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

Чи за своїх днів ти наказував ранкові? Чи досвітній зорі показав її місце,

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

щоб хапалась за кінці землі та посипались з неї безбожні?

It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

Земля змінюється, мов та глина печатки, і стають, немов одіж, вони!

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

І нехай від безбожних їх світло відійметься, а високе рамено зламається!

Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

Чи ти сходив коли аж до морських джерел, і чи ти переходжувався дном безодні?

Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

Чи для тебе відкриті були брами смерти, і чи бачив ти брами смертельної тіні?

Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

Чи широкість землі ти оглянув? Розкажи, якщо знаєш це все!

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

Де та дорога, що світло на ній пробуває? А темрява де її місце,

That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

щоб узяти її до границі її, і щоб знати стежки її дому?

Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

Знаєш ти, бо тоді народився ж ти був, і велике число твоїх днів!

Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

Чи доходив коли ти до схованок снігу, і схованки граду ти бачив,

Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

які Я тримаю на час лихоліття, на день бою й війни?

By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

Якою дорогою ділиться вітер, розпорошується по землі вітерець?

Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

Хто для зливи протоку провів, а для громовиці дорогу,

To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

щоб дощити на землю безлюдну, на пустиню, в якій чоловіка нема,

To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

щоб пустиню та пущу насичувати, і щоб забезпечити вихід траві?

Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

Чи є батько в доща, чи хто краплі роси породив?

Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

Із чиєї утроби лід вийшов, а іній небесний хто його породив?

The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

Як камінь, тужавіють води, а поверхня безодні ховається.

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

Чи зв'яжеш ти зав'язки Волосожару, чи розв'яжеш віжки в Оріона?

Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

Чи виведеш часу свого Зодіяка, чи Воза з синами його попровадиш?

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

Чи ти знаєш устави небес? Чи ти покладеш на землі їхню владу?

Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

Чи підіймеш свій голос до хмар, і багато води тебе вкриє?

Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

Чи блискавки ти посилаєш, і підуть вони, й тобі скажуть Ось ми?

Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

Хто мудрість вкладає людині в нутро? Або хто дає серцеві розум?

Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

Хто мудрістю хмари зрахує, і хто може затримати небесні посуди,

When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

коли порох зливається в зливки, а кавалки злипаються?

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

Чи здобич левиці ти зловиш, і заспокоїш життя левчуків,

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

як вони по леговищах туляться, на чатах сидять по кущах?

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

Хто готує для крука поживу його, як до Бога кричать його діти, як без їжі блукають вони?
