Proverbs 3

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

Figliuol mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento, e il tuo cuore osservi i miei comandamenti,

For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

perché ti procureranno lunghi giorni, anni di vita e di prosperità.

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

Bontà e verità non ti abbandonino; lègatele al collo, scrivile sulla tavola del tuo cuore;

So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

troverai così grazia e buon senno agli occhi di Dio e degli uomini.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Confidati nell’Eterno con tutto il cuore, e non t’appoggiare sul tuo discernimento.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Riconoscilo in tutte le tue vie, ed egli appianerà i tuoi sentieri.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

Non ti stimar savio da te stesso; temi l’Eterno e ritirati dal male;

It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

questo sarà la salute del tuo corpo, e un refrigerio alle tue ossa.

Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

Onora l’Eterno con i tuoi beni e con le primizie d’ogni tua rendita;

So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

i tuoi granai saran ripieni d’abbondanza e i tuoi tini traboccheranno di mosto.

My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

Figliuol mio, non disdegnare la correzione dell’Eterno, e non ti ripugni la sua riprensione;

For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

ché l’Eterno riprende colui ch’egli ama, come un padre il figliuolo che gradisce.

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Beato l’uomo che ha trovato la sapienza, e l’uomo che ottiene l’intelligenza!

For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

Poiché il guadagno ch’essa procura è preferibile a quel dell’argento, e il profitto che se ne trae val più dell’oro fino.

She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

Essa è più pregevole delle perle, e quanto hai di più prezioso non l’equivale.

Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

Lunghezza di vita è nella sua destra; ricchezza e gloria nella sua sinistra.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

Le sue vie son vie dilettevoli, e tutti i suoi sentieri sono pace.

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

Essa è un albero di vita per quei che l’afferrano, e quei che la ritengon fermamente sono beati.

The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

Con la sapienza l’Eterno fondò la terra, e con l’intelligenza rese stabili i cieli.

By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

Per la sua scienza gli abissi furono aperti, e le nubi distillano la rugiada.

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

Figliuol mio, queste cose non si dipartano mai dagli occhi tuoi! Ritieni la saviezza e la riflessione!

So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

Esse saranno la vita dell’anima tua e un ornamento al tuo collo.

Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

Allora camminerai sicuro per la tua via, e il tuo piede non inciamperà.

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Quando ti metterai a giacere non avrai paura; giacerai, e il sonno tuo sarà dolce.

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

Non avrai da temere i sùbiti spaventi, né la ruina degli empi, quando avverrà;

For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

perché l’Eterno sarà la tua sicurezza, e preserverà il tuo piede da ogn’insidia.

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

Non rifiutare un benefizio a chi vi ha diritto, quand’è in tuo potere di farlo.

Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

Non dire al tuo prossimo: "Va’ e torna" e "te lo darò domani", quand’hai di che dare.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

Non macchinare il male contro il tuo prossimo, mentr’egli abita fiducioso con te.

Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

Non intentar causa ad alcuno senza motivo, allorché non t’ha fatto alcun torto.

Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

Non portare invidia all’uomo violento, e non scegliere alcuna delle sue vie;

For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

poiché l’Eterno ha in abominio l’uomo perverso, ma l’amicizia sua è per gli uomini retti.

The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

La maledizione dell’Eterno è nella casa dell’empio, ma egli benedice la dimora dei giusti.

Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Se schernisce gli schernitori, fa grazia agli umili.

The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

I savi erederanno la gloria, ma l’ignominia è la parte degli stolti.
