Proverbs 3

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

میرے بیٹے، میری ہدایت مت بھولنا۔ میرے احکام تیرے دل میں محفوظ رہیں۔

For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

کیونکہ اِن ہی سے تیری زندگی کے دنوں اور سالوں میں اضافہ ہو گا اور تیری خوش حالی بڑھے گی۔

Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

شفقت اور وفا تیرا دامن نہ چھوڑیں۔ اُنہیں اپنے گلے سے باندھنا، اپنے دل کی تختی پر کندہ کرنا۔

So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

تب تجھے اللہ اور انسان کے سامنے مہربانی اور قبولیت حاصل ہو گی۔

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

پورے دل سے رب پر بھروسا رکھ، اور اپنی عقل پر تکیہ نہ کر۔

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

جہاں بھی تُو چلے صرف اُسی کو جان لے، پھر وہ خود تیری راہوں کو ہموار کرے گا۔

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

اپنے آپ کو دانش مند مت سمجھنا بلکہ رب کا خوف مان کر بُرائی سے دُور رہ۔

It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

اِس سے تیرا بدن صحت پائے گا اور تیری ہڈیاں تر و تازہ ہو جائیں گی۔

Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

اپنی ملکیت اور اپنی تمام پیداوار کے پہلے پھل سے رب کا احترام کر،

So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

پھر تیرے گودام اناج سے بھر جائیں گے اور تیرے برتن مَے سے چھلک اُٹھیں گے۔

My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

میرے بیٹے، رب کی تربیت کو رد نہ کر، جب وہ تجھے ڈانٹے تو رنجیدہ نہ ہو۔

For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

کیونکہ جو رب کو پیارا ہے اُس کی وہ تادیب کرتا ہے، جس طرح باپ اُس بیٹے کو تنبیہ کرتا ہے جو اُسے پسند ہے۔

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

مبارک ہے وہ جو حکمت پاتا ہے، جسے سمجھ حاصل ہوتی ہے۔

For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

کیونکہ حکمت چاندی سے کہیں زیادہ سودمند ہے، اور اُس سے سونے سے کہیں زیادہ قیمتی چیزیں حاصل ہوتی ہیں۔

She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

حکمت موتیوں سے زیادہ نفیس ہے، تیرے تمام خزانے اُس کا مقابلہ نہیں کر سکتے۔

Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

اُس کے دہنے ہاتھ میں عمر کی درازی اور بائیں ہاتھ میں دولت اور عزت ہے۔

Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

اُس کی راہیں خوش گوار، اُس کے تمام راستے پُرامن ہیں۔

She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

جو اُس کا دامن پکڑ لے اُس کے لئے وہ زندگی کا درخت ہے۔ مبارک ہے وہ جو اُس سے لپٹا رہے۔

The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

رب نے حکمت کے وسیلے سے ہی زمین کی بنیاد رکھی، سمجھ کے ذریعے ہی آسمان کو مضبوطی سے لگایا۔

By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

اُس کے عرفان سے ہی گہرائیوں کا پانی پھوٹ نکلا اور آسمان سے شبنم ٹپک کر زمین پر پڑتی ہے۔

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

میرے بیٹے، دانائی اور تمیز اپنے پاس محفوظ رکھ اور اُنہیں اپنی نظر سے دُور نہ ہونے دے۔

So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

اُن سے تیری جان تر و تازہ اور تیرا گلہ آراستہ رہے گا۔

Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

تب تُو چلتے وقت محفوظ رہے گا، اور تیرا پاؤں ٹھوکر نہیں کھائے گا۔

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

تُو پاؤں پھیلا کر سو سکے گا، کوئی صدمہ تجھے نہیں پہنچے گا بلکہ تُو لیٹ کر گہری نیند سوئے گا۔

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

ناگہاں آفت سے مت ڈرنا، نہ اُس تباہی سے جو بےدین پر غالب آتی ہے،

For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

کیونکہ رب پر تیرا اعتماد ہے، وہی تیرے پاؤں کو پھنس جانے سے محفوظ رکھے گا۔

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

اگر کوئی ضرورت مند ہو اور تُو اُس کی مدد کر سکے تو اُس کے ساتھ بھلائی کرنے سے انکار نہ کر۔

Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

اگر تُو آج کچھ دے سکے تو اپنے پڑوسی سے مت کہنا، ”کل آنا تو مَیں آپ کو کچھ دے دوں گا۔“

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

جو پڑوسی بےفکر تیرے ساتھ رہتا ہے اُس کے خلاف بُرے منصوبے مت باندھنا۔

Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

جس نے تجھے نقصان نہیں پہنچایا عدالت میں اُس پر بےبنیاد الزام نہ لگانا۔

Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

نہ ظالم سے حسد کر، نہ اُس کی کوئی راہ اختیار کر۔

For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

کیونکہ بُری راہ پر چلنے والے سے رب گھن کھاتا ہے جبکہ سیدھی راہ پر چلنے والوں کو وہ اپنے رازوں سے آگاہ کرتا ہے۔

The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

بےدین کے گھر پر رب کی لعنت آتی جبکہ راست باز کے گھر کو وہ برکت دیتا ہے۔

Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

مذاق اُڑانے والوں کا وہ مذاق اُڑاتا، لیکن فروتنوں پر مہربانی کرتا ہے۔

The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

دانش مند میراث میں عزت پائیں گے جبکہ احمق کے نصیب میں شرمندگی ہو گی۔
