Job 38

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

پھر اللہ خود ایوب سے ہم کلام ہوا۔ طوفان میں سے اُس نے اُسے جواب دیا،

Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

”یہ کون ہے جو سمجھ سے خالی باتیں کرنے سے میرے منصوبے کے صحیح مطلب پر پردہ ڈالتا ہے؟

Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

مرد کی طرح کمربستہ ہو جا! مَیں تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں، اور تُو مجھے تعلیم دے۔

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

تُو کہاں تھا جب مَیں نے زمین کی بنیاد رکھی؟ اگر تجھے اِس کا علم ہو تو مجھے بتا!

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

کس نے اُس کی لمبائی اور چوڑائی مقرر کی؟ کیا تجھے معلوم ہے؟ کس نے ناپ کر اُس کی پیمائش کی؟

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

اُس کے ستون کس چیز پر لگائے گئے؟ کس نے اُس کے کونے کا بنیادی پتھر رکھا،

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

اُس وقت جب صبح کے ستارے مل کر شادیانہ بجا رہے، تمام فرشتے خوشی کے نعرے لگا رہے تھے؟

Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

جب سمندر رِحم سے پھوٹ نکلا تو کس نے دروازے بند کر کے اُس پر قابو پایا؟

When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

اُس وقت مَیں نے بادلوں کو اُس کا لباس بنایا اور اُسے گھنے اندھیرے میں یوں لپیٹا جس طرح نوزاد کو پوتڑوں میں لپیٹا جاتا ہے۔

And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

اُس کی حدود مقرر کر کے مَیں نے اُسے روکنے کے دروازے اور کنڈے لگائے۔

And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

مَیں بولا، ’تجھے یہاں تک آنا ہے، اِس سے آگے نہ بڑھنا، تیری رُعب دار لہروں کو یہیں رُکنا ہے۔‘

Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

کیا تُو نے کبھی صبح کو حکم دیا یا اُسے طلوع ہونے کی جگہ دکھائی

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

تاکہ وہ زمین کے کناروں کو پکڑ کر بےدینوں کو اُس سے جھاڑ دے؟

It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

اُس کی روشنی میں زمین یوں تشکیل پاتی ہے جس طرح مٹی جس پر مُہر لگائی جائے۔ سب کچھ رنگ دار لباس پہنے نظر آتا ہے۔

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

تب بےدینوں کی روشنی روکی جاتی، اُن کا اُٹھایا ہوا بازو توڑا جاتا ہے۔

Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

کیا تُو سمندر کے سرچشموں تک پہنچ کر اُس کی گہرائیوں میں سے گزرا ہے؟

Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

کیا موت کے دروازے تجھ پر ظاہر ہوئے، تجھے گھنے اندھیرے کے دروازے نظر آئے ہیں؟

Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

کیا تجھے زمین کے وسیع میدانوں کی پوری سمجھ آئی ہے؟ مجھے بتا اگر یہ سب کچھ جانتا ہے!

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

روشنی کے منبع تک لے جانے والا راستہ کہاں ہے؟ اندھیرے کی رہائش گاہ کہاں ہے؟

That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

کیا تُو اُنہیں اُن کے مقاموں تک پہنچا سکتا ہے؟ کیا تُو اُن کے گھروں تک لے جانے والی راہوں سے واقف ہے؟

Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

بےشک تُو اِس کا علم رکھتا ہے، کیونکہ تُو اُس وقت جنم لے چکا تھا جب یہ پیدا ہوئے۔ تُو تو قدیم زمانے سے ہی زندہ ہے!

Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

کیا تُو وہاں تک پہنچ گیا ہے جہاں برف کے ذخیرے جمع ہوتے ہیں؟ کیا تُو نے اولوں کے گوداموں کو دیکھ لیا ہے؟

Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

مَیں اُنہیں مصیبت کے وقت کے لئے محفوظ رکھتا ہوں، ایسے دنوں کے لئے جب لڑائی اور جنگ چھڑ جائے۔

By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

مجھے بتا، اُس جگہ تک کس طرح پہنچنا ہے جہاں روشنی تقسیم ہوتی ہے، یا اُس جگہ جہاں سے مشرقی ہَوا نکل کر زمین پر بکھر جاتی ہے؟

Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

کس نے موسلادھار بارش کے لئے راستہ اور گرجتے طوفان کے لئے راہ بنائی

To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

تاکہ انسان سے خالی زمین اور غیرآباد ریگستان کی آب پاشی ہو جائے،

To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

تاکہ ویران و سنسان بیابان کی پیاس بجھ جائے اور اُس سے ہریالی پھوٹ نکلے؟

Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

کیا بارش کا باپ ہے؟ کون شبنم کے قطروں کا والد ہے؟

Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

برف کس ماں کے پیٹ سے پیدا ہوئی؟ جو پالا آسمان سے آ کر زمین پر پڑتا ہے کس نے اُسے جنم دیا؟

The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

جب پانی پتھر کی طرح سخت ہو جائے بلکہ گہرے سمندر کی سطح بھی جم جائے تو کون یہ سرانجام دیتا ہے؟

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

کیا تُو خوشۂ پروین کو باندھ سکتا یا جوزے کی زنجیروں کو کھول سکتا ہے؟

Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

کیا تُو کروا سکتا ہے کہ ستاروں کے مختلف جھرمٹ اُن کے مقررہ اوقات کے مطابق نکل آئیں؟ کیا تُو دُبِ اکبر کی اُس کے بچوں سمیت قیادت کرنے کے قابل ہے؟

Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

کیا تُو آسمان کے قوانین جانتا یا اُس کی زمین پر حکومت متعین کرتا ہے؟

Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

کیا جب تُو بلند آواز سے بادلوں کو حکم دے تو وہ تجھ پر موسلادھار بارش برساتے ہیں؟

Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?

کیا تُو بادل کی بجلی زمین پر بھیج سکتا ہے؟ کیا وہ تیرے پاس آ کر کہتی ہے، ’مَیں خدمت کے لئے حاضر ہوں‘؟

Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

کس نے مصر کے لق لق کو حکمت دی، مرغ کو سمجھ عطا کی؟

Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

کس کو اِتنی دانائی حاصل ہے کہ وہ بادلوں کو گن سکے؟ کون آسمان کے اِن گھڑوں کو اُس وقت اُنڈیل سکتا ہے

When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

جب مٹی ڈھالے ہوئے لوہے کی طرح سخت ہو جائے اور ڈھیلے ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ چپک جائیں؟ کوئی نہیں!

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

کیا تُو ہی شیرنی کے لئے شکار کرتا یا شیروں کو سیر کرتا ہے

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

جب وہ اپنی چھپنے کی جگہوں میں دبک جائیں یا گنجان جنگل میں کہیں تاک لگائے بیٹھے ہوں؟

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

کون کوّے کو خوراک مہیا کرتا ہے جب اُس کے بچے بھوک کے باعث اللہ کو آواز دیں اور مارے مارے پھریں؟
