Job 39

Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

Tiedätkös, koska metsävuohet poikivat, eli oletkos havainnut peurat käyvän tiineenä?

Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

Oletkos lukenut heidän kuukautensa, koska ne täydellänsä ovat? eli tiedätkös ajan, koska he poikivat?

They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

He kumartavat heitänsä poikiessansa, ja ajavat sen pois, josta heillä kipu on.

Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

Heidän poikansa vahvistuvat ja kasvavat jyvistä: ne menevät ulos, ja ei palaja heidän tykönsä.

Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

Kuka on metsä-aasin antanut niin vapaana käydä? kuka on metsä-aasin siteen päästänyt?

Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

Jolle minä olen erämaan huoneeksi antanut ja korven asuinsiaksi.

He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

Hän katsoo ylön kaupungin pauhinaa: vartian huutoa ei hän kuule.

The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

Hän katsoo vuorella laiduntansa, ja etsii kussa viheriäistä on.

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

Luuletkos yksisarvisen palvelevan sinuas, ja makaavan yötä sinun seimelläs?

Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

Taidatkos sitoa yksisarvisen vaolle köydellä, niin että hän kiskois ketoa laaksossa sinun perässäs?

Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

Taidatkos sinus luottaa häneen, ehkä hän paljon voi, ja jättää työs hänen haltuunsa?

Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

Uskotkos hänen siemenes kotia tuovan, ja riihees kokoovan?

Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

Ovatko riikinkukkoin sulat kauniimmat kuin nälkäkurjen sulat?

Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

Joka munansa jättää maahan, ja antaa maan lämpimän hautoa niitä.

And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

Hän unohtaa ne tallattavan,ja että peto kedolla ne rikkois.

She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

Hän on niin kova poikiansa vastaan, kuin ei ne hänen olisikaan: Ei hän tottele turhaan työtä tehdä.

Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

Sillä Jumala on häneltä taidon ottanut pois, ja ei ole antanut hänelle ymmärrystä.

What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

Kuin hän ylentää itsensä korkeuteen, nauraa hän hevosta ja miestä.

Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

Taidatkos antaa hevoselle väen, eli taidatkos kaunistaa hänen kaulansa hirnumisella?

Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

Taidatkos peljättää hänen niinkuin heinäsirkan? peljättävä on hänen sieramiensa päristys.

He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

Hän kaivaa maata kavioillansa, on riemuinen väkevyydessänsä, ja menee sota-aseita vastaan.

He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

Hän nauraa pelkoa ja ei hämmästy, eikä pakene miekkaa.

The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

Ehkä vielä viini kalisis häntä vastaan, ja keihäät ja kilvet välkkyisivät;

He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

Hän korskuu, pudistelee ja kaivaa maata, ja ei tottele vasikitorven helinää.

He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

Kuin vaskitorvi heliästi soi, luihkaa hän: hui, ja haastaa sodan taampaa, niin myös päämiesten huudon ja riemun.

Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

Lentääkö haukka sinun ymmärryksestäs, ja hajoittaa siipensä etelään käsin?

Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

Lentääkö kotka sinun kädestäs niin korkialle, että hän tekee pesänsä korkeuteen?

She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

Hän asuu vuorilla ja yöttelee vuorten kukkuloilla ja vahvoissa paikoissa.

From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

Sieltä hän katsoo ruan perään, ja hänen silmänsä näkevät kauvas.

Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

Hänen poikansa särpävät verta; ja kussa raato on, siellä myös hän on.
