Job 41

Poderás tirar com anzol o leviatã, ou apertar-lhe a língua com uma corda?

Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

Poderás meter-lhe uma corda de junco no nariz, ou com um gancho furar a sua queixada?

Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

Porventura te fará muitas súplicas, ou brandamente te falará?

Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

Fará ele aliança contigo, ou o tomarás tu por servo para sempre?

Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

Brincarás com ele, como se fora um pássaro, ou o prenderás para tuas meninas?

Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

Farão os sócios de pesca tráfico dele, ou o dividirão entre os negociantes?

Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

Poderás encher-lhe a pele de arpões, ou a cabeça de fisgas?

Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

Põe a tua mão sobre ele; lembra-te da peleja; nunca mais o farás!

Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.

Eis que é vã a esperança de apanhá-lo; pois não será um homem derrubado só ao vê-lo?

Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

Ninguém há tão ousado, que se atreva a despertá-lo; quem, pois, é aquele que pode erguer-se diante de mim?

None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

Quem primeiro me deu a mim, para que eu haja de retribuir-lhe? Pois tudo quanto existe debaixo de todo céu é meu.

Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

Não me calarei a respeito dos seus membros, nem da sua grande força, nem da graça da sua estrutura.

I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

Quem lhe pode tirar o vestido exterior? Quem lhe penetrará a couraça dupla?

Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?

Quem jamais abriu as portas do seu rosto? Pois em roda dos seus dentes está o terror.

Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

As suas fortes escamas são o seu orgulho, cada uma fechada como por um selo apertado.

His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.

Uma à outra se chega tão perto, que nem o ar passa por entre elas.

One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

Umas às outras se ligam; tanto aderem entre si, que não se podem separar.

They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

Os seus espirros fazem resplandecer a luz, e os seus olhos são como as pestanas da alva.

By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

Da sua boca saem tochas; faíscas de fogo saltam dela.

Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

Dos seus narizes procede fumaça, como de uma panela que ferve, e de juncos que ardem.

Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

O seu hálito faz incender os carvões, e da sua boca sai uma chama.

His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

No seu pescoço reside a força; e diante dele anda saltando o terror.

In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

Os tecidos da sua carne estão pegados entre si; ela é firme sobre ele, não se pode mover.

The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.

O seu coração é firme como uma pedra; sim, firme como a pedra inferior dumá mó.

His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.

Quando ele se levanta, os valentes são atemorizados, e por causa da consternação ficam fora de si.

When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

Se alguém o atacar com a espada, essa não poderá penetrar; nem tampouco a lança, nem o dardo, nem o arpão.

The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

Ele considera o ferro como palha, e o bronze como pau podre.

He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.

A seta não o poderá fazer fugir; para ele as pedras das fundas se tornam em restolho.

The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

Os bastões são reputados como juncos, e ele se ri do brandir da lança.

Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

Debaixo do seu ventre há pontas agudas; ele se estende como um trilho sobre o lodo.

Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

As profundezas faz ferver, como uma panela; torna o mar como uma vasilha de unguento.

He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

Após si deixa uma vereda luminosa; parece o abismo tornado em brancura de cãs.

He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

Na terra não há coisa que se lhe possa comparar; pois foi feito para estar sem pavor.

Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

Ele vê tudo o que é alto; é rei sobre todos os filhos da soberba.

He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
