Job 39

«آیا می‌دانی که بُز کوهی چه وقت می‌زاید؟ آیا وضع حمل آهو را مشاهده کرده‌ای؟

Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

آیا مدّت حاملگی و زمان زاییدن او را می‌دانی؟

Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

آیا مدّت حاملگی و زمان زاییدن او را می‌دانی؟

They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

بچّه‌هایش در صحرا بزرگ و قوی می‌شوند، بعد از پدر و مادر جدا شده، دیگر برنمی‌گردند.

Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

چه کسی به الاغ وحشی آزادی داد و آن را رها کرد؟

Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

من بیابان را خانه‌اش و شوره زارها را مسکنش ساختم.

Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

شور و غوغای شهر را دوست ندارد و صدای چوپان به گوشش نمی‌رسد.

He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

دامنهٔ کوهها چراگاه آن است و آنجا در جستجوی علف می‌باشد.

The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

آیا گاو وحشی می‌خواهد تو را خدمت کند؟ آیا در کنار آخور تو می‌خوابد؟

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

آیا می‌توانی آن گاو را با ریسمان ببندی تا زمینت را شخم بزند؟

Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

آیا به قوّت زیادش اعتماد داری که کارهایت را به او بسپاری؟

Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

آیا باور می‌‌کنی که اگر او را بفرستی محصولت را می‌آورد و در خرمنگاه جمع می‌کند؟

Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

شترمرغ با غرور بال می‌زند، امّا پر و بال آن طوری نیست که بتواند پرواز کند.

Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

شترمرغ به روی زمین تخم می‌گذارد، تا خاک آن را گرم نگه دارد.

Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

غافل از اینکه ممکن است کسی آن را زیر پا له کند یا حیوانی وحشی آن را پایمال کند.

And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

با جوجه‌های خود با چنان خشونتی رفتار می‌کند که گویی مال خودش نیستند و به زحمتی که کشیده بی‌تفاوت است و اگر جوجه‌هایش بمیرند، اعتنا نمی‌کند.

She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

زیرا خدا به او شعور نداده و او را از عقل محروم کرده است.

Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

امّا هرگاه بالهای خود را باز کند و بدود، هیچ اسب و سوارکاری به او نمی‌رسد.

What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

آیا این تو بودی که اسب را قدرتمند ساختی؟ و به آن یال دادی؟

Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

آیا تو او را وادار می‌سازی که مثل ملخ جست و خیز کند و شیههٔ ترسناک بکشد؟

Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

می‌بینی که چگونه با غرور سُم خود را بر زمین می‌کوبد و از نیروی خود لذّت می‌برد و به جنگ می‌رود.

He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

ترس در دلش راه ندارد و بدون هراس با شمشیر مقابله می‌کند.

He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

از سر و صدای اسلحه و برق نیزه و گُرز نمی‌ترسد.

The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

با شنیدن صدای نعرهٔ جنگ، دیگر آرام نمی‌گیرد و با خشم و هیجان به میدان جنگ می‌تازد.

He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

با شنیدن صدای شیپور شیهه می‌کشد و از دور بوی جنگ به مشامش می‌رسد و فریاد و خروش فرماندهان، او را به هیجان می‌آورد.

He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

آیا تو به شاهین آموخته‌ای که چگونه پرواز کند و بالهای خود را به سوی جنوب بگشاید؟

Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

آیا عقاب به فرمان تو آشیانهٔ خود را بر فراز قلّهٔ بلند می‌سازد؟

Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

ببین ‌که چطور بالای صخره‌‌ها خانه می‌سازد و بر سنگهای تیز می‌نشیند.

She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

از آنجا شکار خود را زیر نظر می‌گیرد و چشمان تیزبینش، از دور آن را می‌بیند.

From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

جایی که لاشه باشد، حاضر می‌شود و جوجه‌هایش خون آن را می‌مکند.

Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
