Proverbs 6

میرے بیٹے، کیا تُو اپنے پڑوسی کا ضامن بنا ہے؟ کیا تُو نے ہاتھ ملا کر وعدہ کیا ہے کہ مَیں کسی دوسرے کا ذمہ دار ٹھہروں گا؟

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

کیا تُو اپنے وعدے سے بندھا ہوا، اپنے منہ کے الفاظ سے پھنسا ہوا ہے؟

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

ایسا کرنے سے تُو اپنے پڑوسی کے ہاتھ میں آ گیا ہے، اِس لئے اپنی جان کو چھڑانے کے لئے اُس کے سامنے اوندھے منہ ہو کر اُسے اپنی منت سماجت سے تنگ کر۔

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

اپنی آنکھوں کو سونے نہ دے، اپنے پپوٹوں کو اونگھنے نہ دے جب تک تُو اِس ذمہ داری سے فارغ نہ ہو جائے۔

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

جس طرح غزال شکاری کے ہاتھ سے اور پرندہ چڑی مار کے ہاتھ سے چھوٹ جاتا ہے اُسی طرح سرتوڑ کوشش کر تاکہ تیری جان چھوٹ جائے۔

Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

اے کاہل، چیونٹی کے پاس جا کر اُس کی راہوں پر غور کر! اُس کے نمونے سے حکمت سیکھ لے۔

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

اُس پر نہ سردار، نہ افسر یا حکمران مقرر ہے،

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

توبھی وہ گرمیوں میں سردیوں کے لئے کھانے کا ذخیرہ کر رکھتی، فصل کے دنوں میں خوب خوراک اکٹھی کرتی ہے۔

Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

اے کاہل، تُو مزید کب تک سویا رہے گا، کب جاگ اُٹھے گا؟

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

تُو کہتا ہے، ”مجھے تھوڑی دیر سونے دے، تھوڑی دیر اونگھنے دے، تھوڑی دیر ہاتھ پر ہاتھ دھرے بیٹھنے دے تاکہ آرام کر سکوں۔“

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

لیکن خبردار، جلد ہی غربت راہزن کی طرح تجھ پر آئے گی، مفلسی ہتھیار سے لیس ڈاکو کی طرح تجھ پر ٹوٹ پڑے گی۔

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

بدمعاش اور کمینہ کس طرح پہچانا جاتا ہے؟ وہ منہ میں جھوٹ لئے پھرتا ہے،

A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

اپنی آنکھوں، پاؤں اور اُنگلیوں سے اشارہ کر کے تجھے فریب کے جال میں پھنسانے کی کوشش کرتا ہے۔

He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

اُس کے دل میں کجی ہے، اور وہ ہر وقت بُرے منصوبے باندھنے میں لگا رہتا ہے۔ جہاں بھی جائے وہاں جھگڑے چھڑ جاتے ہیں۔

Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

لیکن ایسے شخص پر اچانک ہی آفت آئے گی۔ ایک ہی لمحے میں وہ پاش پاش ہو جائے گا۔ تب اُس کا علاج ناممکن ہو گا۔

Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

رب چھ چیزوں سے نفرت بلکہ سات چیزوں سے گھن کھاتا ہے،

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

وہ آنکھیں جو غرور سے دیکھتی ہیں، وہ زبان جو جھوٹ بولتی ہے، وہ ہاتھ جو بےگناہوں کو قتل کرتے ہیں،

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

وہ دل جو بُرے منصوبے باندھتا ہے، وہ پاؤں جو دوسروں کو نقصان پہنچانے کے لئے بھاگتے ہیں،

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

وہ گواہ جو عدالت میں جھوٹ بولتا اور وہ جو بھائیوں میں جھگڑا پیدا کرتا ہے۔

A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

میرے بیٹے، اپنے باپ کے حکم سے لپٹا رہ، اور اپنی ماں کی ہدایت نظرانداز نہ کر۔

My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

اُنہیں یوں اپنے دل کے ساتھ باندھے رکھ کہ کبھی دُور نہ ہو جائیں۔ اُنہیں ہار کی طرح اپنے گلے میں ڈال لے۔

Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

چلتے وقت وہ تیری راہنمائی کریں، آرام کرتے وقت تیری پہرہ داری کریں، جاگتے وقت تجھ سے ہم کلام ہوں۔

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

کیونکہ باپ کا حکم چراغ اور ماں کی ہدایت روشنی ہے، تربیت کی ڈانٹ ڈپٹ زندگی بخش راہ ہے۔

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

یوں تُو بدکار عورت اور دوسرے کی زناکار بیوی کی چِکنی چپڑی باتوں سے محفوظ رہے گا۔

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

دل میں اُس کے حُسن کا لالچ نہ کر، ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ پلک مار مار کر تجھے پکڑ لے۔

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

کیونکہ گو کسبی آدمی کو اُس کے پیسے سے محروم کرتی ہے، لیکن دوسرے کی زناکار بیوی اُس کی قیمتی جان کا شکار کرتی ہے۔

For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

کیا انسان اپنی جھولی میں بھڑکتی آگ یوں اُٹھا کر پھر سکتا ہے کہ اُس کے کپڑے نہ جلیں؟

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

یا کیا کوئی دہکتے کوئلوں پر یوں پھر سکتا ہے کہ اُس کے پاؤں جُھلس نہ جائیں؟

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

اِسی طرح جو کسی دوسرے کی بیوی سے ہم بستر ہو جائے اُس کا انجام بُرا ہے، جو بھی دوسرے کی بیوی کو چھیڑے اُسے سزا ملے گی۔

So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

جو بھوک کے مارے اپنا پیٹ بھرنے کے لئے چوری کرے اُسے لوگ حد سے زیادہ حقیر نہیں جانتے،

Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

حالانکہ اُسے چوری کئے ہوئے مال کو سات گُنا واپس کرنا ہے اور اُس کے گھر کی دولت جاتی رہے گی۔

But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

لیکن جو کسی دوسرے کی بیوی کے ساتھ زنا کرے وہ بےعقل ہے۔ جو اپنی جان کو تباہ کرنا چاہے وہی ایسا کرتا ہے۔

But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

اُس کی پٹائی اور بےعزتی کی جائے گی، اور اُس کی شرمندگی کبھی نہیں مٹے گی۔

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

کیونکہ شوہر غیرت کھا کر اور طیش میں آ کر بےرحمی سے بدلہ لے گا۔

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

نہ وہ کوئی معاوضہ قبول کرے گا، نہ رشوت لے گا، خواہ کتنی زیادہ کیوں نہ ہو۔

He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
