Proverbs 6

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

Poikani, jos sinää takaat lähimmäises, niin sinä olet kiinnittänyt kätes muukalaiseen.

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

Sinun sanoissas olet sinä paulaan istunut: sinä olet saavutettu puheissas.

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

ee siis, poikani, näin: pelasta itses: sillä olet tullut lähimmäises käsiin: joudu, nöyryytä itses ja vaadi lähimmäistäs.

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

Älä anna silmilles unta, eikä silmälautas torkkua.

Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Kirvoita itses niinkuin metsävuohi pois käsistä, niinkuin lintu pyytäjänsä käsistä.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

Mene laiska myyriäisen tykö, katso hänen menoansa ja opi.

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

Vaikka ei hänelläyhtään hallitsiaa, teettäjää ja isäntää ole,

Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

Kuitenkin valmistaa hän elatuksensa suvella, ja koo ruokansa eloaikana.

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

Kuinka kauan sinä laiska makaat? koskas nouset unesta?

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

Makaa vielä vähä, ota vielä unta päähäs; laske kätes vähä yhteen, ettäs vielä levätä voisit;

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Niin köyhyys äkisti tulee päälles niinkuin matkamies, ja vaivaisuus niinkuin varustettu mies.

A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

Jumalatoin ihminen, vahingollinen mies, kävelee suunsa vääryydellä,

He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

Iskee silmää, nyhtää jalvoillansa, kokottelee sormillansa.

Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

Vääryys on hänen sydämessänsä, ja aikoo pahaa: hän saattaa riidat matkaan.

Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

Sentähden tulee pikaisesti hänen kadotuksensa, ja hän äkisti muserretaan rikki, niin ettei hänellä yhtään parannusta ole.

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

Kuusi on, joita Herra vihaa, ja seitsemää kauhistuu hänen sielunsa:

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Ylpiät silmät, petollinen kieli, kädet, jotka vuodattavat viatonta verta;

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

Sydän, joka vahingollisia ajattelee, jalat, jotka ovat nopsat pahuuteen juoksemaan;

A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Väärä todistaja, joka valheita tuottaa, ja se, joka saattaa riidan veljesten välille.

My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Poikani, pidä isäs käskyt, ja älä hylkää äitis lakia.

Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

Sido ne alati yhteen sydämes päälle, ja ripusta ne kaulaas.

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

Koskas vaellat, niin ne johdattavat sinua; koskas lepäät, niin he varjelevat sinua; koskas heräät, niin he puhuttelevat sinua.

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Sillä käsky on niinkuin kynttilä, ja laki niinkuin valkeus, ja opin kuritus elämän tie,

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

Ettäs varjeltaisiin pahasta vaimosta, ja muukalaisen makiasta kielestä.

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

Älä himoitse sydämessäs hänen kauneuttansa, ettes vieteltäisi hänen silmäinsä kiillosta.

For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

Sillä portto saattaa leivältä pois; mutta aviovaimo saattaa kauniin elämän.

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

Taitaako joku kätkeä tulen poveensa, ettei hänen vaattensa pala?

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

Eli taitaako joku hiilten päällä kävellä, ettei hän jalkojansa polta?

So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

Niin sille tapahtuu, joka lähimmäisensä vaimoa lähentelee; ei se pääse rankaisematta, joka häneen ryhtyy.

Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

Ei se ole varkaalle niin suuri häpiä, jos hän varastaa henkensä piteeksi, koska nälkä on:

But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

Jos hän käsitetään, antaa hän sen seitsemänkertaisesti jälleen, ja kaiken huoneensa saadun;

But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

Mutta joka vaimon janssa huoruuteen lankee, se on tyhmä, ja joka sielunsa kadottaa tahtoo, se niin tekee.

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

Rangaistus ja häpiä tulee hänen päällensä, ja hänen häväistyksensä ei pyyhitä pois.

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

Sillä miehen vihalla on kiivaus: ei hän säästä häntä koston päivänä:

He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

Ei hän lukua pidä sovittajasta, eikä ota lahjoja, vaikka paljon antaisit.
