Job 31

Minä olen tehnyt liiton silmäini kanssa, etten minä katsoisi neitseen päälle.

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

Mutta mitä Jumala ylhäältä antaa minulle osaksi ja Kaikkivaltias korkialta perinnöksi?

For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

Eikö väärän pitäisi näkemän senkaltaista vaivaisuutta, ja pahantekiän senkaltaista surkeutta kärsimän?

Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

Eikö hän näe minun teitäni ja lueskele kaikkia minun askeleitani?

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

Olenko minä vaeltanut turhassa menossa, eli minun jalkani kiiruhtaneet petokseen?

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

Punnitkaan hän minua oikialla vaa'alla, niin Jumala ymmärtää minun vakuuteni.

Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

Jos minun askeleeni ovat poikenneet tieltä, ja minun sydämeni seurannut silmiäni, ja jotakin riippunut minun käsissäni,

If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

Niin minä kylväisin ja toinen söis, ja minun sikiäni hukkuis juurinensa.

Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

Jos minun sydämeni on vietelty vaimon perään, ja olen väijynyt lähimmäiseni ovella,

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

Niin minun emäntäni häväistäkään muilta, ja muut maatkaan hänen;

Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

Sillä se on häpiä ja paha työ tuomarien edessä;

For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

Sillä se olis tuli joka polttais kadotukseen, ja kaiken minun saatuni peräti hukuttais.

For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

Jos olen katsonut ylön palveliani eli palkkapiikani oikeuden, riidellessänsä minun kanssani,

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

Mitä minä sitte tekisin kuin Jumala nousee? eli mitä minä vastaisin häntä, kuin hän kostaa?

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

Eikö hän ole tehnyt häntä, joka minunkin äitini kohdussa teki? ja on meidät molemmat kohdussa valmistanut.

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

Olenko minä kieltänyt tarvitsevaisilta, mitä he minulta ovat pyytäneet, ja antanut leskein silmät heikoksi tulla?

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

Olenko minä syönyt palani yksinäni, ettei orpo ole myös siitä syönyt?

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

Sillä nuoruudestani olen minä ollut niinkuin isä, ja hamasta äitini kohdusta olen minä mielelläni holhonnut.

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

Jos minä olen nähnyt jonkun hukkuvan, ettei hänellä ollut vaatetta, ja sallinut käydä köyhän peittämättä;

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

Jos ei hänen lanteensa ole siunannut minua, kuin hän minun lammasnahoillani lämmitettiin;

If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

Jos olen nostanut käteni orpoja vastaan, ehkä minä näin minun voimallisena porteissa olevan;

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

Niin kaatukoon minun hartiani lapaluiltani, ja minun käsivarteni särkyköön luinensa.

Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

Sillä Jnmalan rangaistus on minulle vavistukseksi, ja en taida hänen korkeuttansa välttää.

For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

Olenko minä asettanut kullan turvakseni? ja sanonut puhtaalle kullalle: sinä olet minun uskallukseni?

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

Olenko minä iloinnut tavarani paljoudesta, ja että käteni paljon riistaa koonneet ovat?

If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

Olenko minä katsonut valkeutta, koska se kirkkaasti paisti, ja kuuta, koska se täydellinen oli?

If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

Onko minun sydämeni salaa minua vietellyt, suuta antamaan kädelleni?

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

Joka myös vääryys on tuomarien edessä; sillä niin olisin minä kieltänyt Jumalan ylhäältä.

This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

Olenko minä iloinnut viholliseni vastoinkäymisestä? taikka riemuinnut, että onnettomuus tuli hänen päällensä?

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

Sillä en minä antanut minun suuni syntiä tehdä, sadatellakseni hänen sieluansa.

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

Eivätkö miehet, jotka minun majassani ovat, sanoisi: jospa emme hänen lihastansa ravittaisi?

If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

Muukalaisen ei pitänyt yötä ulkona oleman; vaan vaellusväelle avasin minä oveni.

The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

Olenko minä niinkuin ihminen peittänyt minun pahuuteni, salatakseni minun vääryyttäni?

If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

Olenko minä hämmästynyt suurta joukkoa? eli olenko minä sukulaisteni ylönkatsetta peljännyt? ollut ääneti, ja en mennyt ovesta ulos?

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

Kuka antais minulle kuultelian, että Kaikkivaltias kuulis minun pyyntöni, että joku kirjoittais kirjan minun asiastani;

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

Niin minä ottaisin sen hartioilleni, ja sitoisin ympärilleni niinkuin kruunun.

Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

Minä ilmoittaisin hänelle minun askeleini luvun, ja niinkuin ruhtinas kantaisin sen edes.

I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

Jos minun maani huutais minua vastaan, ja sen vaot kaikki ynnä itkisivät;

If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

Jos minä olen sen hedelmän maksamatta syönyt, ja tehnyt peltomiesten elämän työlääksi;

If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

Niin kasvakoon minulle nisuista orjantappuria ja ohrista pahoja ruohoja. Jobin sanat loppuvat.

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
