Psalms 73

Псалом Асафів. Поправді Бог добрий ізраїлеві, Бог для щиросердих!

Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

А я, мало не послизнулися ноги мої, мало не посковзнулися стопи мої,

But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

бо лихим я завидував, бачивши спокій безбожних,

For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

бо не мають страждання до смерти своєї, і здорове їхнє тіло,

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

на людській роботі нема їх, і разом із іншими людьми не зазнають вони вдарів.

They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Тому то пиха їхню шию оздоблює, зодягає їх шата насилля,

Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

вилазять їм очі від жиру, бажання їхнього серця збулися,

Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

сміються й злосливо говорять про утиск, говорять бундючно:

They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

свої уста до неба підносять, а їхній язик по землі походжає!...

They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

Тому то туди Його люди звертаються, і щедро беруть собі воду

Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

та й кажуть: Хіба Бог те знає, і чи має Всевишній відомість,

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

як он ті безбожні й безпечні на світі збільшили багатство своє?

Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

Направду, надармо очистив я серце своє, і в невинності вимив руки свої,

Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

і ввесь день я побитий, і щоранку покараний...

For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

Коли б я сказав: Буду так говорить, як вони, то спроневірився б я поколінню синів Твоїх.

If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

і роздумував я, щоб пізнати оте, та трудне воно в очах моїх,

When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

аж прийшов я в Божу святиню, і кінець їхній побачив:

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

направду, Ти їх на слизькому поставив, на спустошення кинув Ти їх!

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

Як вони в одній хвилі спустошені, згинули, пощезали від страхів!

How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

Немов сном по обудженні, Господи, образом їхнім погордиш, мов сном по обудженні!

As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

Бо болить моє серце, і в нутрі моїм коле,

Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

а я немов бидло й не знаю, я перед Тобою худобою став!...

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

Та я завжди з Тобою, Ти держиш мене за правицю,

Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

Ти Своєю порадою водиш мене, і потому до слави Ти візьмеш мене!

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Хто є мені на небесах, окрім Тебе? А я при Тобі на землі не бажаю нічого!

Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

Гине тіло моє й моє серце, та Бог скеля серця мого й моя доля навіки,

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

бо погинуть ось ті, хто бокує від Тебе, понищиш Ти кожного, хто відступить від Тебе!

For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

А я, близькість Бога для мене добро, на Владику, на Господа свою певність складаю, щоб звіщати про всі Твої чини!

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
