Job 31

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

“मैंने अपनी आँखो के साथ एक सन्धि की है कि वे किसी लड़की पर वासनापूर्ण दृष्टि न डालें।

For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर लोगों के साथ कैसा करता है वह कैसे अपने ऊँचे स्वर्ग के घर से उनके कर्मो का प्रतिफल देता है

Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

दुष्ट लोगों के लिये परमेश्वर संकट और विनाश भेजता है, और जो बुरा करते हैं, उनके लिये विध्वंस भेजता है।

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

मैं जो कुछ भी करता हूँ परमेश्वर जानता है और मेरे हर कदम को वह देखता है।

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

“यदि मैंने झूठा जीवन जिया हो या झूठ बोल कर लोगों को मूर्ख बनाया हो,

Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

तो वह मुझको खरी तराजू से तौले, तब परमेश्वर जान लेगा कि मैं निरपराध हूँ।

If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

यदि मैं खरे मार्ग से हटा होऊँ यदि मेरी आँखे मेरे मन को बुरे की ओर ले गई अथवा मेरे हाथ पाप से गंदे हैं।

Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

तो मेरी उपजाई फसल अन्य लोग खा जाये और वे मेरी फसलों को उखाड़ कर ले जायें।

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

“यदि मैं स्त्रियों के लिये कामुक रहा होऊँ, अथवा यदि मैं अपने पड़ोसी के द्वार को उसकी पत्नी के साथ व्यभिचार करने के लिये ताकता रहा होऊँ,

Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

तो मेरी पत्नी दूसरों का भोजन तैयार करे और उसके साथ पराये लोग सोंये।

For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

क्यों? क्योंकि यौन पाप लज्जापूर्ण होता है? यह ऐसा पाप है जो निश्चय ही दण्डित होना चाहिये।

For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

व्यभिचार उस पाप के समान है, जो जलाती और नष्ट कर डालती है। मेरे पास जो कुछ भी है व्यभिचार का पाप उसको जला डालेगा।

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

“यदि मैं अपने दास—दासियों के सामने उस समय निष्पक्ष नहीं रहा, जब उनको मुझसे कोई शिकायत रहीं।

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

तो जब मुझे परमेश्वर के सामने जाना होगा, तो मैं क्या करूँगा? जब वह मुझ को मेरे कर्मो की सफाई माँगने बुलायेगा तो मैं परमेश्वर को क्या उत्तर दूँगा?

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

परमेश्वर ने मुझको मेरी माता के गर्भ में बनाया, और मेरे दासों को भी उसने माता के गर्भ में हीं बनाया, उसने हम दोनों ही को अपनी—अपनी माता के भीतर ही रूप दिया है।

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

“मैंने कभी भी दीन जन की सहायता को मना नहीं किया। मैंने विधवाओं को सहारे बिना नहीं रहने दिया।

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

मैं स्वार्थी नहीं रहा। मैंने अपने भोजन के साथ अनाथ बच्चों को भूखा नहीं रहने दिया।

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

ऐसे बच्चों के लिये जिनके पिता नहीं है, मैं पिता के जैसा रहा हूँ। मैंने जीवन भर विधवाओं का ध्यान रखा है।

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

जब मैंने किसी को इसलिये कष्ट भोगते पाया कि उसके पास वस्त्र नहीं हैं, अथवा मैंने किसी दीन को बिना कोट के पाया।

If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

तो मैं सदा उन लोगों को वस्त्र देता रहा, मैंने उन्हें गर्म रखने को मैंने स्वयं अपनी भेड़ों के ऊन का उपयोग किया, तो वे मुझे अपने समूचे मन से आशीष दिया करते थे।

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

यदि कोई मैंने अनाथ को छलने का जतन अदालत में किया हो यह जानकर की मैं जीतूँ,

Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

तो मेरा हाथ मेरे कंधे के जोड़ से ऊतर जाये और मेरा हाथ कंधे पर से गिर जाये।

For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

किन्तु मैंने तो कोई वैसा बुरा काम नहीं किया। क्यों? क्योंकि मैं परमेश्वर के दण्ड से डरता रहा था।

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

“मैंने कभी अपने धन का भरोसा न किया, और मैंने कभी नहीं शुद्ध सोने से कहा कि “तू मेरी आशा है!”

If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

मैंने कभी अपनी धनिकता का गर्व नहीं किया अथवा जो मैंने सम्पत्ति कमाई थी, उसके प्रति मैं आनन्दित हुआ।

If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

मैंने कभी चमकते सूरज की पूजा नहीं की अथवा मैंने सुन्दर चाँद की पूजा नहीं की।

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

मैंने कभी इतनी मूर्खता नहीं की कि सूरज और चाँद को पूजूँ।

This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

यदि मैंने इनमें से कुछ किया तो वो मेरा पाप हो और मुझे उसका दण्ड मिले। क्योंकि मैं उन बातों को करते हुये सर्वशक्तिशाली परमेश्वर का अविश्वासी हो जाता।

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

“जब मेरे शत्रु नष्ट हुए तो मैं प्रसन्न नहीं हुआ, जब मेरे शत्रुओं पर विपत्ति पड़ी तो, मैं उन पर नहीं हँसा।

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

मैंने अपने मुख को अपने शत्रु से बुरे शब्द बोल कर पाप नहीं करने दिया और नहीं चाहा कि उन्हें मृत्यु आ जाये।

If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

मेरे घर के सभी लोग जानते हैं कि मैंने सदा अनजानों को खाना दिया।

The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

मैंने सदा अनजानों को अपने घर में बुलाया, ताकि उनको रात में गलियों में सोना न पड़े।

If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

दूसरे लोग अपने पाप को छुपाने का जतन करते हैं, किन्तु मैंने अपना दोष कभी नहीं छुपाया।

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

क्यों क्योंकि लोग कहा करते हैं कि मैं उससे कभी नहीं डरा। मैं कभी चुप न रहा और मैंने कभी बाहर जाने से मना नहीं किया क्योंकि उन लोगों से जो मेरे प्रति बैर रखते हैं कभी नहीं डरा।

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

“ओह! काश कोई होता जो मेरी सुनता! मुझे अपनी बात समझाने दो। काश! शक्तिशाली परमेश्वर मुझे उत्तर देता। काश! वह उन बातों को लिखता जो मैंने गलत किया था उसकी दृष्टि में।

Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

क्योंकि निश्चय ही मैं वह लिखावट अपने निज कन्धों पर रख लूँगा और मैं उसे मुकुट की तरह सिर पर रख लूँगा।

I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

मैंने जो कुछ भी किया है, मैं उसे परमेश्वर को समझाऊँगा। मैं परमेश्वर के पास अपना सिर ऊँचा उठाये हुये जाऊँगा, जैसे मैं कोई मुखिया होऊँ।

If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

“यदि जिस खेत पर मैं खेती करता हूँ उसको मैंने चुराया हो और उसको उसके स्वामी से लिया हो जिससे वह धरती अपने ही आँसुओं से गीली हो।

If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

और यदि मैंने कभी बिना मजदूरों को मजदूरी दिये हुये, खेत की उपज को खाया हो और मजदूरों को हताश किया हो,

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

हाँ! यदि इनमें से कोई भी बुरा काम मैंने किया हो, तो गेहूँ के स्थान पर काँटे और जौ के बजाये खर—पतवार खेतों में उग आयें।” अय्यूब के शब्द समाप्त हुये!
