Proverbs 15

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Suloinen vastaus hillitse vihan, mutta kova sana saattaa mielen karvaaksi.

The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

Viisasten kieli saattaa opetuksen suloiseksi, vaan tyhmäin suu aina hulluuta sylkee.

The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Herran silmät katselevat joka paikassa, sekä pahat että hyvät.

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Terveellinen kieli on elämän puu: vaan valhettelevainen saattaa sydämen kivun.

A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

Tyhmä laittaa isänsä kurituksen; vaan joka rangaistuksen ottaa, hän tulee taitavaksi.

In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

Vanhurskaan huoneessa on yltäkyllä; vaan jumalattoman saalis on hävintö.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

Viisasten huulet jakavat neuvoa; vaan tyhmäin sydän ei ole niin.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Jumalattoman uhri on Herralle kauhistus; vaan jumalisten rukous on hänelle otollinen.

The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

Jumalattoman tie on Herralle kauhistus; vaan joka vanhursjautta noudattaa, on hänelle rakas.

Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

Kuritus on sille paha, joka hylkää tiensä: ja joka rangaistusta vihaa, hänen pitää kuoleman.

Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

Helvetti ja kadotus on Herran edessä: kunka paljon enemmin ihmisten lasten sydämet.

A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

Ei pilkkaaja rakasta sitä, joka häntä rankaisee, ja ei hän mene viisasten tykö.

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

Iloinen sydän tekee iloiset kasvot; vaan koska sydän on surullinen, niin rohkeus raukee.

The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

Ymmärtäväinen sydän etsii viisautta; vaan tyhmäin suu tyhmyydellä ravitaan.

All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

Surullisella ihmisellä ei ole koskaan hyvää päivää; vaan jolla hyvä sydän on, hänellä on joka päivä vieraspito.

Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Parempi on vähä Herran pelvossa, kuin suuri tavara ilman lepoa.

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

Parempi on ateria kaalia rakkaudessa, kuin syötetty härkä vihassa.

A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

Vihainen mies saattaa toran matkaan; mutta kärsivällinen asettaa riidan.

The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

Laiskan tie on orjantappurainen; vaan hurskasten tie on tasainen.

A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

Viisas poika iloittaa isänsä, ja hullu ihminen häpäisee äitinsä.

Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

Hulluulle on tyhmyys iloksi; vaan toimellinen mies pysyy oikialla tiellä.

Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

Aivoitus raukee ilman neuvoaa; vaan jossa monta neuvonantajaa on, se on vahva.

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

Se on ihmisen ilo, että hän toimella vastata taitaa, ja aikanansa sanottu sana on otollinen.

The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

Elämän tie johdattaa viisaan ylöspäin, välttämään helvettiä, joka alhaalla on.

The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

Herra ylpeiden huoneet kukistaa, ja vahvistaa lesken rajat.

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

Ilkiäin aivoitukset ovat Herralle kauhistukseksi; vaan toimellinen puhe on otollinen.

He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

Ahneudella voitetut kukistavat oman huoneensa; vaan joka lahjoja vihaa, saa elää.

The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

Vanhurskaan sydän ajattelee vastausta; vaan jumalattoman suu ammuntaa pahaa.

The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

Herra on kaukana jumalattomista; vaan hän kuulee vanhurskasten rukoukset.

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

Suloinen kasvo iloittaa sydämen: hyvä sanoma tekee luut lihaviksi.

The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

Korva, joka kuulee elämän rangaistusta, on asuva viisasten seassa.

He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

Joka ei itsiänsä salli kurittaa, se katsoo ylön sielunsa; vaan joka rangaistusta kuulee, hän tulee viisaaksi.

The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Herran pelko on kuritus viisauteen, ja kunnian edellä käy nöyryys.
