Psalms 73

Aszáf zsoltára. Bizony jó Izráelhez az Isten, azokhoz, a kik tiszta szívűek.

Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

De én?! Már-már meghanyatlottak lábaim; és kis híjja, hogy lépteim el nem iszamodtak.

But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

Mert irígykedtem a kevélyekre, látván a gonoszok jó szerencséjét.

For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Mert halálukig nincsenek kínjaik, és az ő erejök állandó.

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

A halandók nyomorúságában nincs részök, és az emberekkel nem ostoroztatnak.

They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Ezért nyakuknak ékessége kevélység, ruha gyanánt erőszak borítja őket.

Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

A kövérség miatt kinn ülnek az ő szemeik, elméjök gondolatjai csaponganak.

Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

Gúnyolódnak és gonoszságot szólnak; elnyomásról beszélnek fennhéjázással.

They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

Az égre tátogatják szájokat, és nyelvök eljárja a földet.

They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

Azért fordul az ő népe ide, hogy tele *pohár* vizet szürcsölnek;

Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

És mondják: Mint tudhatná ezt az Isten, s van-é a Magasságosban értelem?

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Ímé, ezek gonoszok, és örök biztonságban vagyont gyűjtenek!

Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

Bizony hiába tartottam én tisztán szívemet, és mostam ártatlanságban kezeimet;

Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

Mert nyomorgattatom minden napon, és ostoroztatom minden reggel!

For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

Ha azt mondom: Ilyen módon szólok: Ímé, a te fiaid nemzedékét árulom el.

If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

Gondolkodom, hogy ezt megérthessem; de nehéz dolog ez szemeimben.

When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

Mígnem bemenék az Isten szent helyébe: megértém azoknak sorsát.

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

Bizony síkos földön helyezted el őket; pusztaságokra vetetted ki őket.

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

Mind elpusztulnak egy szempillantásban! Elvesznek, elenyésznek a rettegéstől.

How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

Mint álmot, ha felserkenünk: te Uram, ha felserkensz, *úgy *veted meg képöket.

As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

Hogyha keseregne szívem, és háborognának veséim:

Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

Akkor balgatag és tudatlan volnék én, oktalan állat volnék te irántad.

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

De én mindenkor veled vagyok, te fogod az én jobb kezemet.

Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

Tanácsoddal igazgatsz engem, és azután dicsőségbe fogadsz be engem.

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Kicsodám van az egekben? Náladnál egyébben nem gyönyörködöm e földön!

Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

Ha elfogyatkozik is testem és szívem: szívemnek kősziklája és az én örökségem te vagy, oh Isten, mindörökké!

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

Mert ímé, a kik eltávoznak tőled, elvesznek; mind kiirtod azokat, a kik elhajolnak tőled.

For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

De én? Isten közelsége oly igen jó nékem. Az Úr Istenben vetem reménységemet, hogy hirdessem minden te cselekedetedet.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
