Psalms 73

Psalam. Asafov Kako je dobar Bog čestitima, Bog onima koji su čista srca!

Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

A meni umalo noge ne posrnuše, zamalo koraci ne okliznuše,

But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

jer zločincima zavidjeh motreći sreću grešnika.

For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Nikakvu patnju ne snose, pretilo je tijelo njihovo.

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

Ne žive u mukama smrtnika, ljudske ih nevolje ne biju.

They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Stoga je oholost ogrlica vratu njihovu, a nasilje haljina koja ih pokriva.

Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

Iz pretila srca izlazi opakost njihova, srca im se prelijevaju ispraznim tlapnjama.

Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

Podsmjehuju se i zlobno govore, nasiljem prijete odozgo.

They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

Ustima na nebo nasrću, a jezik se njihov obara na zemlju.

They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

Zato moj narod za njima leti i srče obilne vode

Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

pa veli: "Kako da dozna Bog? Spoznaje li Svevišnji?"

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Eto, takvi su grešnici: uvijek spokojni, bogatstvo zgrću.

Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

Jesam li, dakle, samo ja uzalud čuvao srce čisto i u nedužnosti prao ruke

Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

kad sam primao udarce svaki dan i kaznu jutro za jutrom?

For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

Da sam kazao: "Govorit ću kao i oni", izdao bih rod sinova tvojih.

If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

Promišljah tada da bih spoznao: al' mi se učini mučno u očima mojim

When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

sve dok ne nađoh ulaz u Božje svetinje pa prozreh kakav im je svršetak.

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

Zaista, na klizavu stazu ti ih postavljaš, u propast ih obaraš.

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

Kako učas propadoše, nestaše, užas ih izjede!

How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

Kao što čovjek prezire san kad se probudi, tako ćeš, Gospode, prezreti lik im kada ustaneš.

As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

Kad mi duša bijaše ojađena, a bubrezi probodeni,

Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

bezumnik bijah bez razbora, k'o živinče pred tobom.

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

Al' ću odsad uvijek biti s tobom, jer ti prihvati desnicu moju:

Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

vodit ćeš me po naumu svojem da me zatim uzmeš u slavu svoju.

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Koga ja imam u nebu osim tebe? Kad sam s tobom, ne veselim se zemlji.

Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

Malaksalo mi tijelo i srce: okrilje srca moga, i baštino moja, o Bože, dovijeka!

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

Doista, propast će oni koji se udaljuju od tebe, istrebljuješ svakog tko ti se iznevjeri.

For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

A meni je milina biti u Božjoj blizini, imati sklonište svoje u Jahvi. Pripovijedat ću sva tvoja djela na vratima Kćeri sionske.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
