Proverbs 21

The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Mint a vizeknek folyásai, olyan a királynak szíve az Úrnak kezében, valahová akarja, oda hajtja azt!

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

Az embernek minden úta igaz a maga szemei előtt; de a szívek vizsgálója az Úr.

To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Az igazságnak és igaz ítéletnek gyakorlását inkább szereti az Úr az áldozatnál.

An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

A szemnek fenhéjázása és az elmének kevélysége: az istentelenek szántása, bűn.

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

A szorgalmatosnak igyekezete csak gyarapodásra *van;* valaki pedig hirtelenkedik, csak szükségre *jut.*

The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.

A hamisságnak nyelvével gyűjtött kincs elveszett hiábavalósága azoknak, a kik a halált keresik.

The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.

Az istentelenek pusztítása magával ragadja őket; mert nem akartak igazságot cselekedni.

The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.

Tekervényes a bűnös embernek úta; a tisztának cselekedete pedig igaz.

It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Jobb a tető ormán lakni, mint háborgó asszonynyal, és közös házban.

The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.

Az istentelennek lelke kiván gonoszt; *és* az ő szeme előtt nem talál könyörületre az ő felebarátja.

When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

Mikor a csúfolót büntetik, az együgyű lesz bölcs; mikor pedig a bölcset oktatják, ő veszi eszébe a tudományt.

The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.

Nézi az igaz az istentelennek házát, hogy milyen veszedelembe jutottak az istentelenek.

Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

A ki bedugja fülét a szegény kiáltására; ő is kiált, de meg nem hallgattatik.

A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

A titkon adott ajándék elfordítja a haragot; és a kebelben való ajándék a kemény búsulást.

It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

Vígasság az igaznak igazat cselekedni; de ijedelem a hamisság cselekedőinek.

The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

Az ember, a ki eltévelyedik az értelemnek útáról, az élet nélkül valók gyülekezetiben nyugszik.

He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

Szűkölködő ember *lesz,* a ki szereti az örömet; a ki szereti a bort és az olajat, nem lesz gazdag!

The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.

Az igazért váltságdíj az istentelen, és az igazak helyett a hitetlen *büntettetik meg.*

It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Jobb lakozni a pusztának földén, mint a feddődő és haragos asszonynyal.

There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

Kivánatos kincs és kenet van a bölcsnek házában; a bolond ember pedig eltékozolja azt.

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

A ki követi az igazságot és az irgalmasságot, nyer életet, igazságot és tisztességet.

A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

A hősök városába felmegy a bölcs, és lerontja az ő bizodalmoknak erejét.

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

A ki megőrzi száját és nyelvét, megtartja életét a nyomorúságtól.

Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.

A kevély dölyfösnek csúfoló a neve, a ki haragjában kevélységet cselekszik.

The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

A restnek kivánsága megemészti őt; mert az ő kezei nem akarnak dolgozni.

He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

Egész nap kivánságtól gyötretik; az igaz pedig ád, és nem tartóztatja meg *adományát.*

The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?

Az istentelenek áldozatja útálatos; kivált mikor gonosz tettért viszi.

A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.

A hazug bizonyság elvész; a ki pedig *jól* figyelmez, örökké szól.

A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

Megkeményíti az istentelen ember az ő orczáját; az igaz pedig jól rendeli az ő útát.

There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

Nincs bölcseség, és nincs értelem, és nincs tanács az Úr ellen.

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

Készen áll a ló az ütközetnek napjára; de az Úré a megtartás!
