Job 15

Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

الیفاز: ایّوب، آیا شخص عاقلی مانند تو، باید سخنان احمقانه بگوید! کلام تو پوچ و مثل باد هواست.

Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?

الیفاز: ایّوب، آیا شخص عاقلی مانند تو، باید سخنان احمقانه بگوید! کلام تو پوچ و مثل باد هواست.

Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?

با این‌گونه سخنان بی‌معنی، نمی‌توانی از خود دفاع کنی.

Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.

تو از خدا نمی‌ترسی و به او احترام نمی‌گذاری.

For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.

حرفهایی که می‌زنی گناهانت را آشکار می‌کند؛ و با حیله و نیرنگ صحبت می‌‌کنی.

Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

هر سخن زبانت تو را محکوم می‌کند و برضد تو شهادت می‌دهد.

Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?

آیا فکر می‌‌کنی اولین انسانی که به دنیا آمد، تو بودی؟ آیا تو پیش از کوهها به وجود آمده‌ای؟

Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?

آیا تو از نقشهٔ مخفی خدا آگاه بوده‌ای؟ آیا تو عاقلترین مرد روی زمین هستی؟

What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?

چیزی نیست که تو بدانی و ما ندانیم.

With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.

ما حکمت و دانش را از اشخاص مو سفید و سالخورده که سنشان زیادتر از سن پدر توست، آموختیم.

Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

خدا به تو تسلّی می‌بخشد و تو آن را رد می‌‌کنی. ما از طرف خدا با نرمی با تو حرف زدیم،

Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,

امّا تو مضطرب شده‌ای و از چشمانت خشم و غضب می‌بارد.

That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?

تو با این حرفهایت نشان می‌دهی که برضد خدا هستی.

What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

آیا انسان می‌تواند، واقعاً پاک باشد و یا کسی می‌تواند با خدا راست باشد؟

Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

خدا حتّی به فرشتگان خود هم اعتماد نمی‌کند و آسمانها نیز در نظر او پاک نیستند،

How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?

چه رسد به انسان فاسد و ناچیز که شرارت را مثل آب می‌نوشد.

I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;

اکنون به من گوش بده تا آنچه را که می‌دانم به تو بگویم.

Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:

اینها حقایقی هستند که من از اشخاص دانشمند و حکیم آموختم که نیاکانشان آنها را مخفی نکردند.

Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.

در آن وقت بیگانه‌ای در سرزمینشان نبود که آنها را از راه راست منحرف کند.

The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

اشخاص شریر که به دیگران ظلم می‌کنند در سراسر عمر خود در عذاب هستند.

A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

صداهای ترسناک در گوششان می‌پیچد. در وقتی‌که فکر می‌کنند آسوده و آرام است، ناگهان مورد حملهٔ غارتگران قرار می‌گیرند.

He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

امید فرار از تاریکی برایشان نیست و عاقبت با شمشیر هلاک می‌شوند.

He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

برای یک لقمهٔ نان آواره می‌شوند و می‌دانند آینده‌ای تاریک در پیش‌رو دارند.

Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

مصیبت و بدبختی مثل پادشاهی که برای جنگ آماده باشد آنها را به وحشت می‌اندازد.

For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.

زیرا دست خود را برضد خدا دراز کرده‌اند و با او می‌جنگند.

He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:

با گستاخی سپر خود را به دست گرفته، به او حمله می‌کنند.

Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.

آنها هرچند از مال دنیا بی‌نیاز باشند،

And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.

امّا سرانجام در شهرهای ویران و خانه‌های غیر مسکون که در حال فروریختن هستند، به سر خواهند برد.

He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.

ثروتشان برباد می‌رود و چیزی برایشان باقی نمی‌ماند.

He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

نمی‌توانند از تاریکی فرار کنند و مانند درختی که آتش بگیرد و شاخه‌هایش بسوزد و شکوفه‌هایش دستخوش باد شود، دار و ندار خود را از دست می‌دهند.

Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.

ایشان نباید با چیزهای بیهوده و ناپایدار خود را فریب دهند، زیرا نصیب ایشان بیهودگی خواهد بود.

It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

و پیش از آن که چشم از جهان بپوشد، برایش معلوم می‌شود که تکیه کردن به چیزهای فانی بیهوده است.

He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

مانند تاک که غوره‌هایش پیش از رسیدن بریزند و مانند درخت زیتون که شکوفه‌هایش ریخته‌اند، بی‌ثمر می‌گردد.

For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

اشخاص بی‌خدا، بی‌کس خواهند ماند و خانهٔ رشوه‌خواران در آتش می‌سوزد.

They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

آنها برای شرارت نقشه می‌کشند و دلهایشان پُر از مکر و حیله است.
