Job 16

Then Job answered and said,
من این سخنان را بسیار شنیده‌ام. تسلّی شما مرا زیادتر عذاب می‌دهد.
I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
من این سخنان را بسیار شنیده‌ام. تسلّی شما مرا زیادتر عذاب می‌دهد.
Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
تا به کی به این حرفهای بیهوده ادامه می‌دهید؟ آیا شما باید همیشه حرف آخر را بزنید؟
I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
اگر من هم به جای شما بودم می‌توانستم چنین سخنانی بگویم و به عنوان اعتراض سر خود را تکان بدهم.
But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
امّا من شما را نصیحت می‌کردم و با سخنان گرم، شما را تسلّی می‌دادم.
Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
هرچه بگویم، از درد و رنج من کاسته نمی‌شود و اگر هم ساکت بمانم، دردم دوا نخواهد شد.
But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
زیرا تو ای خدا، مرا از زندگی خسته کرده‌ای و خانواده‌ام را از بین برده‌ای.
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
تو عرصه را بر من تنگ کردی و دشمن من شدی. من لاغر و استخوانی شده‌ام و مردم این را نتیجهٔ گناهان من می‌دانند.
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
تو با خشم خود، گوشت بدنم را پاره کرده‌ای، با دیدهٔ نفرت به من نگاه می‌کنی و مرا دشمن خود می‌پنداری.
They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
مردم مرا مسخره می‌کنند و به دور من جمع شده به روی من سیلی می‌زنند.
God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
خدا مرا به دست مردم ظالم و شریر سپرده است.
I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
من زندگی آرام و آسوده‌ای داشتم، امّا او گلوی مرا گرفت و مرا تکه‌تکه کرد. حالا هم مرا هدف خود قرار داده،
His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
تیرهای خود را از هر سو به سوی من پرتاب می‌کند، مرا زخمی می‌کند و رحمی نشان نمی‌دهد.
He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
او مانند یک جنگجو حمله می‌کند و پی‌در‌پی مرا زخمی می‌کند.
I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
لباس سوگواری پوشیده و در خاک ذلّت نشسته‌ام.
My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
از بس گریه کرده‌ام، چشمانم سرخ شده و دیدگانم را تاریکی فراگرفته است.
Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
امّا من شخص شریری نیستم و دعای من از صمیم قلب است.
O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
ای زمین، خون مرا مپوشان و مگذار فریاد عدالت‌خواهی من خاموش گردد.
Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
شاهد من در آسمان است و برای من شفاعت می‌کند.
My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
دوستان من مسخره‌ام می‌کنند، امّا من سیل اشک را در حضور خدا جاری می‌سازم
O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
و پیش او التماس می‌کنم که به عنوان یک دوست به من گوش بدهد و حرفهای مرا بشنود.
When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
زیرا بزودی می‌میرم و به جایی می‌روم که از آنجا امید بازگشت نیست.
