Proverbs 11

A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

La bilancia falsa è un abominio per l’Eterno, ma il peso giusto gli è grato.

When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Venuta la superbia, viene anche l’ignominia; ma la sapienza è con gli umili.

The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

L’integrità degli uomini retti li guida, ma la perversità dei perfidi è la loro rovina.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

Le ricchezze non servono a nulla nel giorno dell’ira, ma la giustizia salva da morte.

The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

La giustizia dell’uomo integro gli appiana la via, ma l’empio cade per la sua empietà.

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

La giustizia degli uomini retti li libera, ma i perfidi restan presi nella loro propria malizia.

When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.

Quando un empio muore, la sua speranza perisce, e l’aspettazione degl’iniqui e annientata.

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

Il giusto è tratto fuor dalla distretta, e l’empio ne prende il posto.

An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

Con la sua bocca l’ipocrita rovina il suo prossimo, ma i giusti sono liberati dalla loro perspicacia.

When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

Quando i giusti prosperano, la città gioisce; ma quando periscono gli empi son gridi di giubilo.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Per la benedizione degli uomini retti la città è esaltata, ma è sovvertita dalla bocca degli empi.

He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

Chi sprezza il prossimo è privo di senno, ma l’uomo accorto tace.

A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

Chi va sparlando svela i segreti, ma chi ha lo spirito leale tien celata la cosa.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Quando manca una savia direzione il popolo cade; nel gran numero de’ consiglieri sta la salvezza.

He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.

Chi si fa mallevadore d’un altro ne soffre danno, ma chi odia la mallevadoria è sicuro.

A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.

La donna graziosa ottiene la gloria, e gli uomini forti ottengon la ricchezza.

The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.

L’uomo benigno fa del bene a se stesso, ma il crudele tortura la sua propria carne.

The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

L’empio fa un’opera fallace, ma chi semina giustizia ha una ricompensa sicura.

As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

Così la giustizia mena alla vita, ma chi va dietro al male s’incammina alla morte.

They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.

I perversi di cuore sono un abominio per l’Eterno, ma gl’integri nella loro condotta gli sono graditi.

Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

No, certo, il malvagio non rimarrà impunito, ma la progenie dei giusti scamperà.

As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

Una donna bella, ma senza giudizio, è un anello d’oro nel grifo d’un porco.

The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

Il desiderio dei giusti è il bene soltanto, ma la prospettiva degli empi e l’ira.

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.

C’è chi spande liberalmente e diventa più ricco, e c’è chi risparmia più del dovere e non fa che impoverire.

The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

L’anima benefica sarà nell’abbondanza, e chi annaffia sarà egli pure annaffiato.

He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

Chi detiene il grano è maledetto dal popolo, ma la benedizione è sul capo di chi lo vende.

He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.

Chi procaccia il bene s’attira benevolenza, ma chi cerca il male, male gl’incoglierà.

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

Chi confida nelle sue ricchezze cadrà, ma i giusti rinverdiranno a guisa di fronde.

He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

Chi getta lo scompiglio in casa sua erediterà vento, e lo stolto sarà lo schiavo di chi ha il cuor savio.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Il frutto del giusto è un albero di vita, e il savio fa conquista d’anime.

Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

Ecco, il giusto riceve la sua retribuzione sulla terra, quanto più l’empio e il peccatore!
