Proverbs 10

The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

Salamon bölcs mondásai. A bölcs fiú örvendezteti az ő atyját; a bolond fiú pedig szomorúsága az ő anyjának.

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

Nem használnak a gonoszság kincsei; az igazság pedig megszabadít a halálból.

The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

Az Úr nem hagyja éhezni az igaznak lelkét; az istenteleneknek kivánságát pedig elveti.

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Szegénynyé lesz, a ki cselekszik rest kézzel; a gyors munkások keze pedig meggazdagít.

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Gyűjt nyárban az eszes fiú; álomba merül az aratás idején a megszégyenítő fiú.

Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

Áldások vannak az igaznak fején; az istentelenek szája pedig erőszaktételt fed be.

The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

Az igaznak emlékezete áldott; a hamisaknak neve pedig megrothad.

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

A bölcs elméjű beveszi a parancsolatokat; a bolond ajkú pedig elveszti magát.

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

A ki tökéletességben jár, bátorsággal jár; a ki pedig elferdíti az ő útát, kiismertetik.

He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

A ki szemmel hunyorgat, bántást szerez; és a bolond ajkú elesik.

The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

Életnek kútfeje az igaznak szája; az istenteleneknek szája pedig erőszaktételt fedez el.

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

A gyűlölség szerez versengést; minden vétket pedig elfedez a szeretet.

In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

Az eszesek ajkain bölcseség találtatik; a vessző pedig a bolond hátának *való.*

Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

A bölcsek tudományt rejtegetnek; a bolondnak szája pedig közeli romlás.

The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

A gazdagnak marhája az ő megerősített városa; szűkölködőknek romlása az ő szegénységök.

The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

Az igaznak keresménye életre, az istentelennek jövedelme bűnre van.

He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

A bölcseség megőrizőnek útja életre van; a fenyítéket elhagyó pedig tévelyeg.

He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

A ki elfedezi a gyűlölséget, hazug ajkú az; és a ki szól gyalázatot, bolond az.

In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

A sok beszédben elmaradhatatlan a vétek; a ki pedig megtartóztatja ajkait, az értelmes.

The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

Választott ezüst az igaznak nyelve; a gonoszok elméje kevés érő.

The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

Az igaznak ajkai sokakat legeltetnek; a bolondok pedig esztelenségökben halnak meg.

The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

Az Úrnak áldása, az gazdagít meg, és azzal *semmi* nem szerez bántást.

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

Miképen játék a bolondnak bűnt cselekedni, azonképen az eszes férfiúnak bölcsen *cselekedni.*

The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

A mitől retteg az istentelen, az esik ő rajta; a mit pedig kivánnak az igazak, meg lesz.

As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

A mint a forgószél ráfuvall, már oda van az istentelen; az igaznak pedig örökké való fundamentoma van.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

Minémű az eczet a fogaknak és a füst a szemeknek, olyan a rest azoknak, a kik azt elküldötték.

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

Az Úrnak félelme hosszabbítja meg a napokat; az istenteleneknek pedig esztendeik megrövidülnek.

The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

Az igazaknak reménysége öröm; az istenteleneknek várakozása pedig elvész.

The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

Erősség a tökéletesnek az Úrnak úta: de romlás a hamisság cselekedőinek.

The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

Az igaz soha meg nem mozdul; de az istentelenek nem lakják a földet.

The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

Az igaznak szája bőségesen szól bölcsességet; a gonoszság nyelve pedig kivágatik.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

Az igaznak ajkai azt tudják, a mi kedves; az istenteleneknek szája pedig a gonoszságot.
