Proverbs 29

He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

जो घुड़कियाँ खाकर भी अकड़ा रहता है, वह अचानक नष्ट हो जायेगा। उसका उपाय तक नहीं बचेगा।

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

जब धर्मी जन का विकास होता है, तो लोग आनन्द मनाते हैं। जब दुष्ट शासक बन जाता है तो लोग कराहते हैं।

Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

ऐसा जन जो विवेक से प्रेम रखता है, पिता को आनन्द पहुँचाता है। किन्तु जो वेश्याओं की संगत करता है, अपना धन खो देता है।

The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

न्याय से राजा देश को स्थिरता देता है। किन्तु राजा लालची होता तो लोग उसे घूँस देते है अपना काम करवाने के लिये। तब देश दुर्बल हो जाता है।

A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.

जो अपने साथी की चापलूसी करता है वह अपने पैरों के लिये जाल पसारता है।

In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

पापी स्वयं अपने जाल में फंसता है। किन्तु एक धर्मी गाता और प्रसन्न होता है।

The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.

सज्जन चाहते हैं कि गरीबों को न्याय मिले किन्तु दुष्टों को उनकी तनिक चिन्ता नहीं होती।

Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.

जो ऐसा सोचते हैं कि हम दूसरों से उत्तम हैं, वे विपत्ति उपजाते और सारे नगर को अस्त—व्यस्त कर देते हैं। किन्तु जो बुद्धिमान होते हैं, शान्ति को स्थापित करते हैं।

If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

बुद्धिमान जन यदि मूर्ख के साथ में वाद—विवाद सुलझाना चाहता है, तब मूर्ख कुतर्क करता है और उल्टी—सीधी बातें करता जिससे दोनों के बीच सन्धि नहीं हो पाती।

The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.

खून के प्यासे लोग, सच्चे लोगों से घृणा करते हैं। और वे उन्हें मार डालना चाहते हैं।

A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

मूर्ख मनुष्य को तो बहुत शीध्र क्रोध आता है। किन्तु बुद्धिमान धीरज धरके अपने पर नियंत्रण रखता है।

If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.

यदि एक शासक झूठी बातों को महत्व देता है तो उसके अधिकारी सब भ्रष्ट हो जाते हैं।

The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.

एक हिसाब से गरीब और जो व्यक्ति को लूटता है, वह समान है। यहोवा ने ही दोनों को बनाया है।

The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.

यदि कोई राजा गरीबों पर न्यायपूर्ण रहता है तो उसका शासन सुदीर्घ काल बना रहेगा।

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

दण्ड और डाँट से सुबुद्धि मिलती है किन्तु यदि माता—पिता मनचाहा करने को खुला छोड़ दे, तो वह निज माता का लज्जा बनेगा।

When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.

दुष्ट के राज्य में पाप, पनप जाते हैं किन्तु अन्तिम विजय तो सज्जन की होती है।

Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

पुत्र को दण्डित कर जब वह अनुचित करे, फिर तो तुझे उस पर सदा ही गर्व रहेगा। वह तेरी लज्जा का कारण कभी नहीं होगा।

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

यदि कोई देश परमेश्वर की राह पर नहीं चलता तो उसे देश में शांति नहीं होगी। वह देश जो परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था पर चलता, आनन्दित रहेगा।

A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.

केवल शब्द मात्र से दास नहीं सुधरता है। चाहे वह तेरे बात को समझ ले, किन्तु उसका पालन नहीं करेगा।

Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

यदि कोई बिना विचारे हुए बोलता है तो उसके लिये कोई आशा नहीं। अधिक आशा होती है एक मूर्ख के लिये अपेक्षा उस जन के जो विचार बिना बोले।

He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.

यदि तू अपने दास को सदा वह देगा जो भी वह चाहे, तो अंत में— वह तेरा एक उत्तम दास नहीं रहेगा।

An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

क्रोधी मनुष्य मतभेद भड़काता है, और ऐसा जन जिसको क्रोध आता हो, बहुत से पापों का अपराधी बनता है।

A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

मनुष्य को अहंकार नीचा दिखाता है, किन्तु वह व्यक्ति जिसका हृदय विनम्र होता आदर पाता है।

Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.

जो चोर का संग पकड़ता है वह अपने से शत्रुता करता है; क्योंकि न्यायालय में जब उस पर सच उगलने को जोर पड़ता है तो वह कुछ भी कहने से बहुत डरा रहता है।

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

भय मनुष्य के लिये फँदा प्रमाणित होता है, किन्तु जिसकी आस्था यहोवा पर रहती है, सुरक्षित रहता है।

Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

बहुत लोग राजा के मित्र होना चाहते हैं, किन्तु वह यहोवा ही है जो जन का सच्चा न्याय करता है।

An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

सज्जन घृणा करते हैं ऐसे उन लोगों से जो सच्चे नहीं होते; और दुष्ट सच्चे लोगों से घृणा रखते हैं।
