Proverbs 28

The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

दुष्ट के मन में सदा भय समाया रहता है और इसी कारण वह भागता फिरता है। किन्तु धर्मी जन सदा निर्भय रहता है वैसे हो जैसे सिंह निर्भय रहता है।

For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

देश में जब अराजकता उभर आती है बहुत से शासक बन बैठते हैं। किन्तु जो समझता है और ज्ञानी होता है, ऐसा मनुष्य ही व्यवस्था स्थिर करता है।

A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

वह राजा जो गरीब को दबाता है, वह वर्षा की बाढ़ सा होता है जो फसल नहीं छोड़ती।

They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

व्यवस्था के विधान को जो त्याग देते हैं, दुष्टों की प्रशंसा करते, किन्तु जो व्यवस्था के विधान को पालते उनका विरोध करते।

Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

दुष्ट जन न्याय को नहीं समझते हैं। किन्तु जो यहोवा की खोज में रहते हैं, उसे पूरी तरह जानते हैं।

Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

वह निर्धन उत्तम हैं जिसकी राह खरी है। न कि वह धनी पुरुष जो टेढ़ी चाल चलता है।

Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

जो व्यवस्था के विधानों का पालन करता है, वही है विवेकी पुत्र; किन्तु जो व्यर्थ के पेटुओं को बनाता साथी, वह पिता का निरादर करता है।

He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

वह जो मोटा ब्याज वसूल कर निज धन बढ़ाता है, वह तो यह धन जोड़ता है किसी ऐसे दयालु के लिये जो गरीबों पर दया करता है।

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

यदि व्यवस्था के विधान पर कोई कान नहीं देता तो उसको विनतियाँ भी घृणा के योग्य होगी।

Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

वह तो अपने ही जाल में फंस जायेगा जो सीधे लोगों को बुरे मार्ग पर भटकाता है। किन्तु दोषरहित लोग उत्तम आशीष पायेगा।

The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

धनी परुष निज आँखों में बुद्धिमान हो सकता है किन्तु वह गरीबजन जो बुद्धिमान होता है सत्य को देखता।

When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

सज्जन जब जीतते हैं, तो सब प्रसन्न होते हैं। किन्तु जब दुष्ट को शक्ति मिल जाती है तो लोग छिप—छिप कर फिरते हैं।

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

जो निज पापों पर पर्दा डालता है, वह तो कभी नहीं फूलता—फलता है किन्तु जो निज दोषों को स्वीकार करता और त्यागता है, वह दया पाता है।

Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

धन्य है, वह पुरुष जो यहोवा से सदा डरता है, किन्तु जो अपना मन कठोर कर लेता है, विपत्ति में गिरता है।

As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

दुष्ट लोग असहाय जन पर शासन करते हैं। ऐसे जैसे दहाड़ता हुआ सिंह अथवा झपटता हुआ रीछ।

The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

एक क्रूर शासक में न्याय को कमी होती है। किन्तु जो बुरे मार्ग से आये हुए धन से घृणा करता है, दीर्घ आयु भोगता है।

A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

किसी व्यक्ति को दूसरे की हत्या का दोषी ठहराया हो तो उस व्यक्ति को शांति नहीं मिलेगी। उसे सहायता मत कर।

Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

यदि कोई व्यक्ति निष्कलंक हो तो वह सुरक्षित है। यदि वह बुरा व्यक्ति हो तो वह अपनी सामर्थ खो बैठेगा।

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

जो अपनी धरता जोतता—बोता है और परिश्रम करता है, उसके पास सदा भर पूर खाने को होगा। किन्तु जो सदा सपनों में खोया रहता है, सदा दरिद्र रहेगा।

A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

परमेश्वर निज भक्त पर आशीष बरसाता है, किन्तु वह मनुष्य जो सदा धन पाने को लालायित रहता है, बिना दण्ड के नहीं बचेगा।

To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

किसी धन्यवान व्यक्ति का पक्षपात करना अच्छा नहीं होता तो भी कुछ न्यायाधीश कभी कर जाते पक्षपात मात्र छोटे से रोटी के ग्रास के लिये।

He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

सूम सदा धन पाने को लालायित रहता है और नहीं जानता कि उसकी ताक में दरिद्रता है।

He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

वह जो किसी जन को सुधारने को डांटता है, वह अधिक प्रेम पाता है, अपेक्षा उसके जो चापलूसी करता है।

Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

कुछ लोग होते हैं जो अपने पिता और माता से चुराते हैं। वह कहते हैं, “यह बुरा नहीं है।” यह उस बुरा व्यक्ति जैसा है जो घर के भीतर आकर सभी वस्तुओं को तोड़ फोड़ कर देते हैं।

He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

लालची मनुष्य तो मतभेद भड़काता, किन्तु वह मनुष्य जिसका भरोसा यहोवा पर है फूलेगा—फलेगा।

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

मूर्ख को अपने पर बहुत भरोसा होता है। किन्तु जो ज्ञान की राह पर चलता है, सुरक्षित रहता है।

He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

जो गरीबों को दान देता रहता है उसको किसी बात का अभाव नहीं रहता। किन्तु जो उनसे आँख मूँद लेता है, वह शाप पाता है।

When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.

जब कोई दुष्ट शक्ति पा जाता है तो सज्जन छिप जाने को दूर चले जाते हैं। किन्तु जब दुष्ट जन का विनाश होता है तो सज्जनों को वृद्धि प्रकट होने लगती है।
