Proverbs 29

He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

کسی‌که بعد از سرزنش زیاد بازهم سرسختی کند، ناگهان شکسته خواهد شد و علاجی نخواهد داشت.

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

تا وقتی‌که قدرت در دست اشخاص نیک است، مردم خوشحال هستند، ولی اگر قدرت به دست افراد بد بیفتد، مردم ناله خواهند کرد.

Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

پسر عاقل والدین خود را خوشحال می‌سازد، امّا پسری که به دنبال زنان بدکار می‌رود، دارایی آنها را برباد می‌دهد.

The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

پادشاه عادل به کشور خود ثبات می‌بخشد، ولی آن که مالیات زیاد می‌گیرد، مملکت خود را نابود می‌سازد.

A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.

شخص متملّق با چاپلوسی به دوست خود صدمه می‌زند.

In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

شریران در دام گناه خود گرفتار می‌شوند، امّا شادکامی نصیب مردم درستکار می‌گردد.

The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.

شخص درستکار نسبت به فقرا با انصاف است، امّا شریر به فکر آنها نیست.

Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.

شخص احمقی که دیگران را مسخره می‌کند، شهری را به آشوب می‌کشد، امّا آدم دانا خشم را فرو می‌نشاند.

If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

وقتی یک آدم عاقل با یک شخص احمق به دادگاه می‌رود، شخص احمق خشمگین می‌شود و او را مسخره می‌کند و صلحی نخواهد بود.

The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.

کسانی‌که تشنهٔ خون هستند از افراد نیکو نفرت دارند و به فکر هلاکت آنان می‌باشند.

A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

آدم احمق، بزودی خشم خود را ظاهر می‌سازد، امّا شخص عاقل از خشم خود جلوگیری می‌کند.

If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.

اگر حاکم به سخنان دروغ گوش بدهد، تمام خادمانش دروغگو می‌شوند.

The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.

فقیر و ثروتمند در یک چیز مانند هم هستند: خداوند به هردوی آنها چشم بینا داده است.

The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.

پادشاهی که نسبت به مردم مسکین با انصاف باشد، سلطنتش همیشه پایدار می‌ماند.

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

برای تربیت کودکان چوب و تأدیب لازم است، اگر او را آزاد بگذاری و سرزنش نکنی، باعث شرمندگی مادر خود می‌شود.

When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.

وقتی شریران به قدرت می‌رسند، جرم زیاد می‌شود. امّا مردم درستکار سقوط آنها را به چشم خواهند دید.

Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

فرزندت را تأدیب کن تا باعث خوشی و آرامش تو گردد.

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

مردمی که خدا راهنمایشان نباشد، سرکش می‌شوند. خوشا به حال قومی که از دستورات الهی پیروی می‌کنند.

A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.

نوکران، تنها با نصیحت اصلاح نمی‌شوند، زیرا آنها هرچند سخنان تو را بفهمند، امّا به آنها توجّه نمی‌کنند.

Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

شخصی که بدون فکر کردن و با عجله حرف می‌زند، از یک احمق هم بدتر است.

He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.

نوکری که آقایش او را از کودکی به ناز پرورده باشد، سرانجام تمام دارایی آقای خود را غصب می‌کند.

An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

شخص تندخو کشمکش برپا می‌کند و آدم بدخُلق فتنه‌انگیز است.

A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

تکبّر، انسان را به زمین می‌زند؛ امّا فروتنی باعث سرفرازی می‌شود.

Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.

کسی‌که با دزد همدست می‌شود، به جان خود دشمنی می‌کند. اگر در دادگاه حقیقت را بگوید، مجازات خواهد شد و اگر را نگوید، خدا او را لعنت می‌کند.

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

کسی‌که از انسان می‌ترسد در دام می‌افتد، امّا هرکه بر خداوند توکّل می‌کند، در امان می‌ماند.

Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

بسیاری از مردم از حاکم انتظار لطف دارند، امّا داوری فقط به دست خداوند است.

An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

درستکاران از شریران نفرت دارند و شریران از درستکاران.
