Matthew 15

Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

پھر کچھ فریسی اور شریعت کے عالِم یروشلم سے آ کر عیسیٰ سے پوچھنے لگے،

Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

”آپ کے شاگرد باپ دادا کی روایت کیوں توڑتے ہیں؟ کیونکہ وہ ہاتھ دھوئے بغیر روٹی کھاتے ہیں۔“

But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”اور تم اپنی روایات کی خاطر اللہ کا حکم کیوں توڑتے ہو؟

For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

کیونکہ اللہ نے فرمایا، ’اپنے باپ اور اپنی ماں کی عزت کرنا‘ اور ’جو اپنے باپ یا ماں پر لعنت کرے اُسے سزائے موت دی جائے۔‘

But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

لیکن جب کوئی اپنے والدین سے کہے، ’مَیں آپ کی مدد نہیں کر سکتا، کیونکہ مَیں نے مَنت مانی ہے کہ جو کچھ مجھے آپ کو دینا تھا وہ اللہ کے لئے وقف ہے‘ تو تم اِسے جائز قرار دیتے ہو۔

And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

یوں تم کہتے ہو کہ اُسے اپنے ماں باپ کی عزت کرنے کی ضرورت نہیں ہے۔ اور اِسی طرح تم اللہ کے کلام کو اپنی روایت کی خاطر منسوخ کر لیتے ہو۔

Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

ریاکارو! یسعیاہ نبی نے تمہارے بارے میں کیا خوب نبوّت کی ہے،

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

’یہ قوم اپنے ہونٹوں سے تو میرا احترام کرتی ہے لیکن اُس کا دل مجھ سے دُور ہے۔

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

وہ میری پرستش کرتے تو ہیں، لیکن بےفائدہ۔ کیونکہ وہ صرف انسان ہی کے احکام سکھاتے ہیں‘۔“

And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

پھر عیسیٰ نے ہجوم کو اپنے پاس بُلا کر کہا، ”سب میری بات سنو اور اِسے سمجھنے کی کوشش کرو۔

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

کوئی ایسی چیزہے نہیں جو انسان کے منہ میں داخل ہو کر اُسے ناپاک کر سکے، بلکہ جو کچھ انسان کے منہ سے نکلتا ہے وہی اُسے ناپاک کر دیتا ہے۔“

Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

اِس پر شاگردوں نے اُس کے پاس آ کر پوچھا، ”کیا آپ کو معلوم ہے کہ فریسی یہ بات سن کر ناراض ہوئے ہیں؟“

But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

اُس نے جواب دیا، ”جو بھی پودا میرے آسمانی باپ نے نہیں لگایا اُسے جڑ سے اُکھاڑا جائے گا۔

Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

اُنہیں چھوڑ دو، وہ اندھے راہ دکھانے والے ہیں۔ اگر ایک اندھا دوسرے اندھے کی راہنمائی کرے تو دونوں گڑھے میں گر جائیں گے۔“

Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

پطرس بول اُٹھا، ”اِس تمثیل کا مطلب ہمیں بتائیں۔“

And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”کیا تم ابھی تک اِتنے ناسمجھ ہو؟

Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

کیا تم نہیں سمجھ سکتے کہ جو کچھ انسان کے منہ میں داخل ہو جاتا ہے وہ اُس کے معدے میں جاتا ہے اور وہاں سے نکل کر جائے ضرورت میں؟

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

لیکن جو کچھ انسان کے منہ سے نکلتا ہے وہ دل سے آتا ہے۔ وہی انسان کو ناپاک کرتا ہے۔

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

دل ہی سے بُرے خیالات، قتل و غارت، زناکاری، حرام کاری، چوری، جھوٹی گواہی اور بہتان نکلتے ہیں۔

These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

یہی کچھ انسان کو ناپاک کر دیتا ہے، لیکن ہاتھ دھوئے بغیر کھانا کھانے سے وہ ناپاک نہیں ہوتا۔“

Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

پھر عیسیٰ گلیل سے روانہ ہو کر شمال میں صور اور صیدا کے علاقے میں آیا۔

And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

اِس علاقے کی ایک کنعانی خاتون اُس کے پاس آ کر چلّانے لگی، ”خداوند، ابنِ داؤد، مجھ پر رحم کریں۔ ایک بدروح میری بیٹی کو بہت ستاتی ہے۔“

But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

لیکن عیسیٰ نے جواب میں ایک لفظ بھی نہ کہا۔ اِس پر اُس کے شاگرد اُس کے پاس آ کر اُس سے گزارش کرنے لگے، ”اُسے فارغ کر دیں، کیونکہ وہ ہمارے پیچھے پیچھے چیختی چلّاتی ہے۔“

But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”مجھے صرف اسرائیل کی کھوئی ہوئی بھیڑوں کے پاس بھیجا گیا ہے۔“

Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

عورت اُس کے پاس آ کر منہ کے بل جھک گئی اور کہا، ”خداوند، میری مدد کریں!“

But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

اُس نے اُسے بتایا، ”یہ مناسب نہیں کہ بچوں سے کھانا لے کر کُتوں کے سامنے پھینک دیا جائے۔“

And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

اُس نے جواب دیا، ”جی خداوند، لیکن کُتے بھی وہ ٹکڑے کھاتے ہیں جو اُن کے مالک کی میز پر سے فرش پر گر جاتے ہیں۔“

Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”اے عورت، تیرا ایمان بڑا ہے۔ تیری درخواست پوری ہو جائے۔“ اُسی لمحے عورت کی بیٹی کو شفا مل گئی۔

And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.

پھر عیسیٰ وہاں سے روانہ ہو کر گلیل کی جھیل کے کنارے پہنچ گیا۔ وہاں وہ پہاڑ پر چڑھ کر بیٹھ گیا۔

And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

لوگوں کی بڑی تعداد اُس کے پاس آئی۔ وہ اپنے لنگڑے، اندھے، مفلوج، گونگے اور کئی اَور قسم کے مریض بھی ساتھ لے آئے۔ اُنہوں نے اُنہیں عیسیٰ کے سامنے رکھا تو اُس نے اُنہیں شفا دی۔

Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

ہجوم حیرت زدہ ہو گیا۔ کیونکہ گونگے بول رہے تھے، اپاہجوں کے اعضا بحال ہو گئے، لنگڑے چلنے اور اندھے دیکھنے لگے تھے۔ یہ دیکھ کر بھیڑ نے اسرائیل کے خدا کی تمجید کی۔

Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

پھر عیسیٰ نے اپنے شاگردوں کو بُلا کر اُن سے کہا، ”مجھے اِن لوگوں پر ترس آتا ہے۔ اِنہیں میرے ساتھ ٹھہرے تین دن ہو چکے ہیں اور اِن کے پاس کھانے کی کوئی چیز نہیں ہے۔ لیکن مَیں اِنہیں اِس بھوکی حالت میں رُخصت نہیں کرنا چاہتا۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ راستے میں تھک کر چُور ہو جائیں۔“

And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?

اُس کے شاگردوں نے جواب دیا، ”اِس ویران علاقے میں کہاں سے اِتنا کھانا مل سکے گا کہ یہ لوگ کھا کر سیر ہو جائیں؟“

And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.

عیسیٰ نے پوچھا، ”تمہارے پاس کتنی روٹیاں ہیں؟“ اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”سات، اور چند ایک چھوٹی مچھلیاں۔“

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

عیسیٰ نے ہجوم کو زمین پر بیٹھنے کو کہا۔

And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

پھر سات روٹیوں اور مچھلیوں کو لے کر اُس نے شکرگزاری کی دعا کی اور اُنہیں توڑ توڑ کر اپنے شاگردوں کو تقسیم کرنے کے لئے دے دیا۔

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

سب نے جی بھر کر کھایا۔ بعد میں جب کھانے کے بچے ہوئے ٹکڑے جمع کئے گئے تو سات بڑے ٹوکرے بھر گئے۔

And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

خواتین اور بچوں کے علاوہ کھانے والے 4,000 مرد تھے۔

And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

پھر عیسیٰ لوگوں کو رُخصت کر کے کشتی پر سوار ہوا اور مگدن کے علاقے میں چلا گیا۔
