Matthew 14

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

اُس وقت گلیل کے حکمران ہیرودیس انتپاس کو عیسیٰ کے بارے میں اطلاع ملی۔

And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

اِس پر اُس نے اپنے درباریوں سے کہا، ”یہ یحییٰ بپتسمہ دینے والا ہے جو مُردوں میں سے جی اُٹھا ہے، اِس لئے اُس کی معجزانہ طاقتیں اِس میں نظر آتی ہیں۔“

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

وجہ یہ تھی کہ ہیرودیس نے یحییٰ کو گرفتار کر کے جیل میں ڈالا تھا۔ یہ ہیرودیاس کی خاطر ہوا تھا جو پہلے ہیرودیس کے بھائی فلپّس کی بیوی تھی۔

For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

یحییٰ نے ہیرودیس کو بتایا تھا، ”ہیرودیاس سے تیری شادی ناجائز ہے۔“

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

ہیرودیس یحییٰ کو قتل کرنا چاہتا تھا، لیکن عوام سے ڈرتا تھا کیونکہ وہ اُسے نبی سمجھتے تھے۔

But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

ہیرودیس کی سال گرہ کے موقع پر ہیرودیاس کی بیٹی اُن کے سامنے ناچی۔ ہیرودیس کو اُس کا ناچنا اِتنا پسند آیا

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

کہ اُس نے قَسم کھا کر اُس سے وعدہ کیا، ”جو بھی تُو مانگے گی مَیں تجھے دوں گا۔“

And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

اپنی ماں کے سکھانے پر بیٹی نے کہا، ”مجھے یحییٰ بپتسمہ دینے والے کا سر ٹرے میں منگوا دیں۔“

And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

یہ سن کر بادشاہ کو دُکھ ہوا۔ لیکن اپنی قَسموں اور مہمانوں کی موجودگی کی وجہ سے اُس نے اُسے دینے کا حکم دے دیا۔

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

چنانچہ یحییٰ کا سر قلم کر دیا گیا۔

And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

پھر ٹرے میں رکھ کر اندر لایا گیا اور لڑکی کو دے دیا گیا۔ لڑکی اُسے اپنی ماں کے پاس لے گئی۔

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

بعد میں یحییٰ کے شاگرد آئے اور اُس کی لاش لے کر اُسے دفنایا۔ پھر وہ عیسیٰ کے پاس گئے اور اُسے اطلاع دی۔

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

یہ خبر سن کر عیسیٰ لوگوں سے الگ ہو کر کشتی پر سوار ہوا اور کسی ویران جگہ چلا گیا۔ لیکن ہجوم کو اُس کی خبر ملی۔ لوگ پیدل چل کر شہروں سے نکل آئے اور اُس کے پیچھے لگ گئے۔

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

جب عیسیٰ نے کشتی پر سے اُتر کر بڑے ہجوم کو دیکھا تو اُسے لوگوں پر بڑا ترس آیا۔ وہیں اُس نے اُن کے مریضوں کو شفا دی۔

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

جب دن ڈھلنے لگا تو اُس کے شاگرد اُس کے پاس آئے اور کہا، ”یہ جگہ ویران ہے اور دن ڈھلنے لگا ہے۔ اِن کو رُخصت کر دیں تاکہ یہ ارد گرد کے دیہاتوں میں جا کر کھانے کے لئے کچھ خرید لیں۔“

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”اِنہیں جانے کی ضرورت نہیں، تم خود اِنہیں کھانے کو دو۔“

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”ہمارے پاس صرف پانچ روٹیاں اور دو مچھلیاں ہیں۔“

He said, Bring them hither to me.

اُس نے کہا، ”اُنہیں یہاں میرے پاس لے آؤ،“

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

اور لوگوں کو گھاس پر بیٹھنے کا حکم دیا۔ عیسیٰ نے اُن پانچ روٹیوں اور دو مچھلیوں کو لے کر آسمان کی طرف دیکھا اور شکرگزاری کی دعا کی۔ پھر اُس نے روٹیوں کو توڑ توڑ کر شاگردوں کو دیا، اور شاگردوں نے یہ روٹیاں لوگوں میں تقسیم کر دیں۔

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

سب نے جی بھر کر کھایا۔ جب شاگردوں نے بچے ہوئے ٹکڑے جمع کئے تو بارہ ٹوکرے بھر گئے۔

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

خواتین اور بچوں کے علاوہ کھانے والے تقریباً 5,000 مرد تھے۔

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

اِس کے عین بعد عیسیٰ نے شاگردوں کو مجبور کیا کہ وہ کشتی پر سوار ہو کر آگے نکلیں اور جھیل کے پار چلے جائیں۔ اِتنے میں وہ ہجوم کو رُخصت کرنا چاہتا تھا۔

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

اُنہیں خیرباد کہنے کے بعد وہ دعا کرنے کے لئے اکیلا پہاڑ پر چڑھ گیا۔ شام کے وقت وہ وہاں اکیلا تھا

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

جبکہ کشتی کنارے سے کافی دُور ہو گئی تھی۔ لہریں کشتی کو بہت تنگ کر رہی تھیں کیونکہ ہَوا اُس کے خلاف چل رہی تھی۔

And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

تقریباً تین بجے رات کے وقت عیسیٰ پانی پر چلتے ہوئے اُن کے پاس آیا۔

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

جب شاگردوں نے اُسے جھیل کی سطح پر چلتے ہوئے دیکھا تو اُنہوں نے دہشت کھائی۔ ”یہ کوئی بھوت ہے،“ اُنہوں نے کہا اور ڈر کے مارے چیخیں مارنے لگے۔

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

لیکن عیسیٰ فوراً اُن سے مخاطب ہو کر بولا، ”حوصلہ رکھو! مَیں ہی ہوں۔ مت گھبراؤ۔“

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

اِس پر پطرس بول اُٹھا، ”خداوند، اگر آپ ہی ہیں تو مجھے پانی پر اپنے پاس آنے کا حکم دیں۔“

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

عیسیٰ نے جواب دیا، ”آ۔“ پطرس کشتی پر سے اُتر کر پانی پر چلتے چلتے عیسیٰ کی طرف بڑھنے لگا۔

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

لیکن جب اُس نے تیز ہَوا پر غور کیا تو وہ گھبرا گیا اور ڈوبنے لگا۔ وہ چلّا اُٹھا، ”خداوند، مجھے بچائیں!“

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

عیسیٰ نے فوراً اپنا ہاتھ بڑھا کر اُسے پکڑ لیا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”اے کم اعتقاد! تُو شک میں کیوں پڑ گیا تھا؟“

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

دونوں کشتی پر سوار ہوئے تو ہَوا تھم گئی۔

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

پھر کشتی میں موجود شاگردوں نے اُسے سجدہ کر کے کہا، ”یقیناً آپ اللہ کے فرزند ہیں!“

And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

جھیل کو پار کر کے وہ گنیسرت شہر کے پاس پہنچ گئے۔

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

جب اُس جگہ کے لوگوں نے عیسیٰ کو پہچان لیا تو اُنہوں نے ارد گرد کے پورے علاقے میں اِس کی خبر پھیلائی۔ اُنہوں نے اپنے تمام مریضوں کو اُس کے پاس لا کر

And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

اُس سے منت کی کہ وہ اُنہیں صرف اپنے لباس کے دامن کو چھونے دے۔ اور جس نے بھی اُسے چھوا اُسے شفا ملی۔
