Proverbs 30

The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

ये सूक्ति आगूर की हैं, जो याके क पूत्र था। यह पुरुष ईतीएल और उक्काल से: कहता है

Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

मैं महाबुद्धिहीन हूँ। मुझमें मनुष्य की समझदारी बिल्कुल नहीं है।

I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

मैंने बुद्धि नहीं पायी और मेरे पास उस पवित्र का ज्ञान नहीं है।

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

स्वर्ग से कोई नहीं आया और वहाँ के रहस्य ला सका पवन को मुट्ठी में कोई नहीं बाँध सका। कोई नहीं बाँध सका पानी को कपड़े में और कोई नहीं जान सका धरती का छोर। और यदि कोई इन बातों को कर सका है, तो मुझसे कहो, उसका नाम और उसके पुत्र का नाम मुझको बता, यदि तू उसको जानता हो।

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

वचन परमेश्वर का दोष रहित होता है, जो उसकी शरण में जाते हैं वह उनकी ढाल होता है।

Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

तू उसके वचनों में कुछ घट—बढ़ मत कर। नहीं तो वह तुझे डांटे फटकारेगा और झूठा ठहराएगा।

Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

हे यहोवा, मैं तुझसे दो बातें माँगता हूँ: जब तक मैं जीऊँ, तू मुझको देता रह।

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

तू मुझसे मिथ्या को, व्यर्थ को दूर रख। मुझे दरिद्र मत कर और न ही मुझको धनी बना। मुझको बस प्रतिदिन खाने को देता रह।

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

कहीं ऐसा न हो जाये बहुत कुछ पा करके मैं तुझको त्याग दूँ; और कहने लगूँ “कौन परमेश्वर है” और यदि निर्धन बनूँ और चोरी करूँ, और इस प्रकार मैं अपने परमेश्वर के नाम को लजाऊँ।

Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

तू स्वामी से सेवक की निन्दा मत कर नहीं तो तुझको, वह अभिशाप देगा और तुझे उसकी भरपाई करनी होगी।

There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

ऐसे भी होते हैं जो अपने पिता को कोसते है, और अपनी माता को धन्य नहीं कहते हैं।

There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

होते हैं ऐसे भी, जो अपनी आँखों में तो पवित्र बने रहते किन्तु अपवित्रता से अपनी नहीं धुले होते हैं।

There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

ऐसे भी होते हैं जिनकी आँखें सदा तनी ही रहती, और जिनकी आँखों में घृणा भरी रहती है।

There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

ऐसे भी होते हैं जिनके दाँत कटार हैं और जिनके जबड़ों में खंजर जड़े रहते हैं जिससे वे इस धरती के गरीबों को हड़प जायें, और जो मानवों में से अभावग्रस्त हैं उनको वे निगल लें।

The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

जोंक की दो पुत्र होती हैं वे सदा चिल्लाती रहती, “देओ, देओ।” तीन वस्तु ऐसी हैं जो तृप्त कभी न होती और चार ऐसी जो कभी बस नहीं कहती।

The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

कब्र, बांझ—कोख और धरती जो जल से कभी तृप्त नहीं होती और अग्नि जो कभी बस नहीं कहती।

The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

जो आँख अपने ही पिता पर हँसती है, और माँ की बात मानने से घृणा करती है, घाठी के कौवे उसे नोंच लेंगे और उसको गिद्ध खा जायेंगे।

There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:

तीन बातें ऐसी हैं जो मुझे अति विचित्र लगती, और चौथी ऐसी जिसे में समझ नहीं पाता।

The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

आकाश में उड़ते हुए गरूड़ का मार्ग, और लीक नाग की जो चट्टान पर चला; और महासागर पर चलते जहाज़ की राह और उस पुरुष का मार्ग जो किसी कामिनी के प्रेम में बंधा हो।

Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

चरित्रहीन स्त्री की ऐसी गति होती है, वह खाती रहती और अपना मुख पोंछ लेती और कहा करती है, मैंने तो कुछ भी बुरा नहीं किया।

For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:

तीन बातें ऐसी हैं जिनसे धरा काँपती है और एक चौथी है जिसे वह सह नहीं कर पाती।

For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;

दास जो बन जाता राजा, मूर्ख जो सम्पन्न,

For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

ब्याह किसी ऐसी से जिससे प्रेम नहीं हो; और ऐसी दासी जो स्वामिनी का स्थान ले ले।

There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:

चार जीव धरती के, जो यद्यपि बहुत क्षुद्र हैं किन्तु उनमें अत्याधिक विवेक भरा हुआ है।

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

चीटियाँ जिनमें शक्ति नहीं होती है फिर भी वे गर्मी में अपना खाना बटोरती हैं;

The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

बिज्जू दुर्बल प्राणी हैं फिर भी वे खड़ी चट्टानों में घर बनाते;

The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

टिड्डियों का कोई भी राजा नहीं होता है फिर भी वे पंक्ति बाँध कर एक साथ आगे बढ़ती हैं।

The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

और वह छिपकली जो बस केवल हाथ से ही पकड़ी जा सकती है, फिर भी वह राजा के महलों में पायी जाती।

There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:

तीन प्राणी ऐसे हैं जो लगते महत्वपूर्ण जब वे चलते हैं, दरअसल वे चार हैं:

A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;

एक सिंह, जो सभी पशुओं में शक्तिशाली होता है, जो कभी किसी से नहीं डरता;

A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.

गर्वीली चाल से चलता हुआ मुर्गा और एक बकरा और वह राजा जो अपनी सेना के मध्य है।

If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

तूने यदि कभी कोई मूर्खता का आचरण किया हो, और अपने मुँह मियाँ मिट्ठू बना हो अथवा तूने कभी कुचक्र रचा हो तो तू अपना मुँह अपने हाथों से ढक ले।

Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

जैसे मथने से दूध मक्खन निकालता है और नाक मरोड़ने से लहू निकल आता है वैसे ही क्रोध जगाना झगड़ों का भड़काना होता है।
