Proverbs 31

The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

ये सूक्तियाँ राजा लमूएल की, जिन्हें उसे उसकी माता ने सिखाया था।

What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

तू मेरा पुत्र है वह पुत्र जो मुझ को प्यारा है। जिसके पाने को मैंने मन्नत मानी थी।

Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

तू व्यर्थ अपनी शक्ति स्त्रियों पर मत व्यय करो स्त्री ही राजाओं का विनाश करती हैं। इसलिये तू उन पर अपना क्षय मत कर।

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

हे लमूएल! राजा को मधुपान शोभा नहीं देता, और न ही यह कि शासक को यवसुरा ललचाये।

Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

नहीं तो, वे मदिरा का बहुत अधिक पान करके, विधान की व्यवस्था को भूल जायेगें और वे सारे दीन दलितों के अधिकारों को छीन लेंगे।

Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

वे जो मिटे जा रहे हैं उन्हें यवसुरा, मदिरा उनको दे जिन पर दारूण दुःख पड़ा हो।

Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

उनको पीने दे और उन्हें उनके अभावों को भूलने दे। उनका वह दारूण दुःख उन्हें नहीं याद रहे।

Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

तू बोल उनके लिये जो कभी भी अपने लिये बोल नहीं पाते हैं; और उन सब के, अधिकारों के लिये बोल जो अभागे हैं।

Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

तू डट करके खड़ा रह उन बातों के हेतू जिनको तू जानता है कि वे उचित, न्यायपूर्ण, और बिना पक्ष—पात के सबका न्याय कर। तू गरीब जन के अधिकारों की रक्षा कर और उन लोगों के जिनको तेरी अपेक्षा हो।

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

गुणवंती पत्नी कौन पा सकता है वह जो मणि—मणिकों से कही अधिक मूल्यवान।

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

जिसका पति उसका विश्वास कर सकता है। वह तो कभी भी गरीब नहीं होगा।

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

सद्पत्नी पति के संग उत्तम व्यवहार करती। अपने जीवन भर वह उसके लिये कभी विपत्ति नहीं उपजाती।

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

वह सदा ऊनी और सूती कपड़े बुनाने में व्यस्त रहती।

She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

वह जलयान जो दूर देश से आता है वह हर कहीं से घर पर भोज्य वस्तु लाती।

She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

तड़के उठाकर वह भोजन पकाती है। अपने परिवार का और दासियों का भाग उनको देती है।

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

वह देखकर एवं परख कर खेत मोल लेती है जोड़े धन से वह दाख की बारी लगाती है।

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

वह बड़ा श्रम करती है। वह अपने सभी काम करने को समर्थ है।

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

जब भी वह अपनी बनायी वस्तु बेचती है, तो लाभ ही कमाती है। वह देर रात तक काम करती है।

She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

वह सूत कातती और निज वस्तु बुनती है।

She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

वह सदा ही दीन—दुःखी को दान देती है, और अभाव ग्रस्त जन की सहायता करती है।

She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

जब शीत पड़ती तो वह अपने परिवार हेतु चिंतित नहीं होती है। क्योंकि उसने सभी को उत्तम गर्म वस्त्र दे रख है।

She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

वह चादर बनाती है और गद्दी पर फैलाती है। वह सन से बने कपड़े पहनती है।

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

लोग उसके पति का आदर करते हैं वह स्थान पाता है नगर प्रमुखों के बीच।

She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

वह अति उत्तम व्यापारी बनती है। वह वस्त्रों और कमरबंदों को बनाकर के उन्हें व्यापारी लोगों को बेचती है।

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

वह शक्तिशाली है, और लोग उसको मान देते हैं।

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

जब वह बोलती है, वह विवेकपूर्ण रहती है। उसकी जीभ पर उत्तम शिक्षायें सदा रहती है।

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

वह कभी भी आलस नहीं करती है और अपने घर बार का ध्यान रखती है।

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

उसके बच्चे खड़े होते और उसे आदर देते हैं। उसका पति उसकी प्रशंसा करता है।

Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

उसका पति कहता है, “बहुत सी स्त्रियाँ होती हैं। किन्तु उन सब में तू ही सर्वोत्तम अच्छी पत्नी है।”

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

मिथ्या आकर्षण और सुन्दरता दो पल की है, किन्तु वह स्त्री जिसे यहोवा का भय है, प्रशंसा पायेगी।

Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

उसे वह प्रतिफल मिलना चाहिये जिसके वह योग्य है, और जो काम उसने किये हैं, उसके लिये चाहिये कि सारे लोग के बीच में उसकी प्रशंसा करें।
