Proverbs 7

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

ای فرزندم، هرچه می‌گویم به‌خاطر بسپار و هرگز فراموش نکن

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

هرچه می‌گویم انجام بده تا زنده بمانی. تعالیم مرا مانند چشم خودت محافظت کن.

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

آنها را حفظ کن و بر قلبت بنویس.

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

حکمت را خواهر خود محسوب کن و بینش را مانند نزدیکترین دوست خود بدان.

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

آنها تو را از زن شوهردار و از سخنان تملّق‌آمیز آنها دور می‌کنند.

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

یک روز از پنجرهٔ اتاقم به بیرون نگاه می‌کردم.

And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

در بین جوانان بی‌تجربه، جوان احمقی را دیدم که در موقع تاریک شدن هوا، در کوچه‌ای به طرف خانهٔ زنی می‌رفت.

Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

در بین جوانان بی‌تجربه، جوان احمقی را دیدم که در موقع تاریک شدن هوا، در کوچه‌ای به طرف خانهٔ زنی می‌رفت.

In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

در بین جوانان بی‌تجربه، جوان احمقی را دیدم که در موقع تاریک شدن هوا، در کوچه‌ای به طرف خانهٔ زنی می‌رفت.

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

آن زن به طرف او آمد. لباس زنان هرزه را پوشیده بود و نقشه‌های پلیدی در سر داشت.

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

زنِ گستاخ و بی‌حیایی بود، از آن زنهایی که همیشه در خیابانها گردش می‌کنند و یا در گوشهٔ خیابانها و کوچه و بازارها می‌ایستند.

Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

زنِ گستاخ و بی‌حیایی بود، از آن زنهایی که همیشه در خیابانها گردش می‌کنند و یا در گوشهٔ خیابانها و کوچه و بازارها می‌ایستند.

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

دستهایش را به گردن آن جوان انداخت او را بوسید و با نگاهی شرم آور گفت:

I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

«امروز نذر خود را ادا کرده، قربانی نموده‌ام و از گوشت آن غذا پخته‌ام.

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

پس بیرون آمده دنبال تو می‌گشتم. خواستم تو را پیدا کنم و حالا پیدایت کردم.

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

رختخواب خود را با پارچه‌های ابریشمی رنگارنگ مصری پوشانیده‌ام

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

و با بهترین عطرهای خوشبو آن را معطّر کرده‌ام.

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

بیا برویم تا صبح عشق‌بازی کنیم و در آغوش هم لذّت ببریم،

For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

شوهرم در خانه نیست و به سفر درازی رفته‌است.

He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

پول زیادی با خود برده و تا دو هفته دیگر برنمی‌گردد.»

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

سرانجام با زبان چرب و نرم و با چاپلوسی او را فریب داد.

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

ناگهان او مثل گاوی که به کشتارگاه می‌رود

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

و مانند آهویی که خرامان به سوی تله پیش می‌رود تا تیری به قلبش زده شود و مانند پرنده‌ای که به طرف دام می‌رود، به دنبال آن زن به راه افتاد و نمی‌دانست که زندگی او در خطر است.

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

پس ای پسران من توجّه کنید و به سخنان من گوش بدهید:

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

نگذارید چنین زنی قلب شما را اسیر کند. به دنبال او نروید.

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

او مردان زیادی را بیچاره کرده و عدّهٔ بی‌شماری را به مرگ کشانده است.

Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

اگر به خانهٔ چنین زنانی بروی در راه دنیای مردگان هستی و این راه، کوتاهترین راه مرگ و نابودی است.
