Job 20

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

ایّوب، سخنان تو مرا متأسف ساخته و دیگر نمی‌توانم صبر کنم، مجبورم که جوابت را بدهم.

Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste.

ایّوب، سخنان تو مرا متأسف ساخته و دیگر نمی‌توانم صبر کنم، مجبورم که جوابت را بدهم.

I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.

سخنان تو توهین‌آمیز بودند، امّا من می‌دانم که چگونه به تو جواب بدهم.

Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

می‌دانی که از زمان قدیم از وقتی‌که انسان برای اولین بار بر زمین نهاده شد،

That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

سعادت و خوشی مردم بدکار، همیشه ناپایدار بوده است.

Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds;

آنها هرقدر در زندگی پیشرفت کنند و جاه و جلالشان سر به فلک بکشد،

Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?

سرانجام مانند فضلهٔ خود دور انداخته شده، برای همیشه نابود می‌گردند و آشنایانشان می‌گویند: «آنها کجا هستند؟»

He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.

همچون خواب و خیال محو می‌شوند، و دیگر دیده نخواهند شد

The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.

بدکاران دیگر دیده نخواهند شد و از جایی که زندگی می‌کردند برای همیشه ناپدید می‌گردند.

His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

فرزندانشان از مردم فقیر گدایی می‌کنند و همهٔ آنچه را که از مردم بزور گرفته بودند، پس می‌دهند.

His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.

بدنهایشان که زمانی جوان و نیرومند بود، به گور می‌رود و خاک می‌شود.

Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue;

آنها از شرارت لذّت می‌برند و طعم آن، دهانشان را شیرین نگاه می‌دارد،

Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:

آنها از شرارت لذّت می‌برند و طعم آن، دهانشان را شیرین نگاه می‌دارد،

Yet his meat in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him.

امّا آنچه را که خورده‌اند، در شکمشان ترش کرده، به زهرمار تبدیل می‌شود

He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.

و ثروتی را که بلعیده‌اند، قی می‌کنند. خدا همه را از شکمشان بیرون می‌کشد.

He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him.

آنچه را که خورده‌اند، مانند زهر مار آنها را مسموم کرده، هلاک می‌سازد.

He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter.

آن‌قدر زنده نمی‌مانند که از نعمات روغن زیتون، شیر و عسل بهره‌ای ببرند

That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.

و از دارایی و اموال خود استفاده کنند و لذّت ببرند.

Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;

زیرا آنها به مردم مسکین ظلم نموده، مال ایشان را غصب کردند و خانه‌ای را که خودشان نساخته بودند، بزور گرفتند.

Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired.

در اندوختن ثروت، حریص هستند و قناعت ندارند.

There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods.

از مالی که دزدیده‌اند، چیزی برایشان باقی نمی‌ماند و خوشبختی آنها از بین خواهد رفت.

In the fulness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.

در اوج سعادت، ناگهان مصیبت و بدبختی بر سرشان می‌آید و رنج و مصیبت دامنگیرشان می‌شود.

When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.

در وقتی‌که همه‌چیز دارند و شکمشان سیر است، به غضب خدا گرفتار می‌شوند.

He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through.

از شمشیر آهنین فرار می‌کنند، امّا هدف تیر برنزی قرار می‌گیرند.

It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.

وقتی تیر را از بدنشان بیرون می‌کشند، نوک برّاق آن جگرشان را پاره می‌کند و وحشت مرگ آنها را فرا می‌گیرد.

All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.

همهٔ مال و ثروتی را که اندوخته‌اند، نابود می‌شود و آتش ناگهانی، باقیماندهٔ دارایی آنها را از بین می‌برد.

The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him.

آسمانها گناهانشان را آشکار می‌سازند و زمین برضد آنها گواهی می‌دهد.

The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

در اثر خشم خدا همهٔ اموالشان تاراج می‌شود.

This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed unto him by God.

این است سرنوشت مردم بدکار که خدا برایشان تعیین کرده است.
