Job 40

Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,

I Jahve se obrati Jobu i reče mu:

Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

"Zar će se s Jakim preti još kudilac? Tužitelj Božji nek' sam odgovori!"

Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

A Job odgovori Jahvi i reče:

Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

"Odveć sam malen: što da odgovorim? Rukom ću svoja zatisnuti usta.

Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

Riječ rekoh - neću više započeti; rekoh dvije - al' neću nastaviti."

Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

Nato Jahve odgovori Jobu iz oluje i reče:

Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

"Bokove svoje opaši k'o junak, ja ću te pitat', a ti me pouči.

Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

Zar bi i moj sud pogaziti htio, okrivio me da sebe opravdaš?

Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

Zar ti mišica snagu Božju ima, zar glasom grmjet' možeš poput njega?

Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

Ogrni se sjajem i veličanstvom, dostojanstvom se odjeni i slavom.

Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.

Plani dÓe bijesom ognja jarosnoga, pogledom jednim snizi oholnika.

Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

Ponositoga pogledaj, slomi ga, na mjestu satri svakoga zlikovca.

Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.

U zemlju sve njih zajedno zakopaj, u mračnu ih pozatvaraj tamnicu.

Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

Tada ću i ja tebi odat' hvalu što si se svojom desnicom spasio.

Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

A sada, dÓe promotri Behemota! Travom se hrani poput govečeta,

Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

u bedrima je, gle, snaga njegova, a krepkost mu u mišićju trbušnom.

He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

Poput cedra rep podignut ukruti, sva su mu stegna ispreplele žile.

His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

Mjedene cijevi kosti su njegove, zglobovi mu od željeza kvrge.

He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

Prvenac on je Božjega stvaranja; mačem ga je naoružao tvorac.

Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

Gore mu danak u hrani donose i sve zvijerje što po njima se igra.

He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.

Pod lotosom on zavaljen počiva, guštik močvarni i glib kriju ga.

The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

Sjenu mu pravi lotosovo lišće, pod vrbama on hladuje potočnim.

Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

Nabuja li rijeka, on ne strahuje: nimalo njega ne bi zabrinulo da mu u žvale i sav Jordan jurne.

He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

Tko bi za oči uhvatio njega i tko bi mu nos sulicom probio? [ (Job 40:25) Zar loviš Levijatana udicom? Zar ćeš mu jezik zažvalit' užetom? ] [ (Job 40:26) Zar mu nozdrve trskom probost' možeš ili mu kukom probiti vilicu? ] [ (Job 40:27) Hoće li te on preklinjat' za milost, hoće li s tobom blago govoriti? ] [ (Job 40:28) I zar će s tobom savez on sklopiti da sveg života tebi sluga bude? ] [ (Job 40:29) Hoćeš li se s njim k'o s pticom poigrat' i vezat' ga da kćeri razveseliš? ] [ (Job 40:30) Hoće li se za nj cjenkati ribari, među sobom podijelit' ga trgovci? ] [ (Job 40:31) Možeš li kopljem njemu kožu izbost ili glavu mu probiti ostima? ] [ (Job 40:32) Podigni de ruku svoju na njega: za boj se spremi - bit će ti posljednji! ]
