Job 21

Und Hiob antwortete und sprach:

But Job answered and said,

Höret, höret meine Rede! Und dies ersetze eure Tröstungen.

Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.

Ertraget mich, und ich will reden, und nachdem ich geredet habe, magst du spotten.

Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

Richtet sich meine Klage an einen Menschen? Oder warum sollte ich nicht ungeduldig sein?

As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

Wendet euch zu mir und entsetzet euch, und leget die Hand auf den Mund!

Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.

Ja, wenn ich daran denke, so bin ich bestürzt, und Schauder erfaßt mein Fleisch.

Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.

Warum leben die Gesetzlosen, werden alt, nehmen gar an Macht zu?

Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?

Ihr Same steht fest vor ihnen, mit ihnen, und ihre Sprößlinge vor ihren Augen.

Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.

Ihre Häuser haben Frieden, ohne Furcht, und Gottes Rute ist nicht über ihnen.

Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

Sein Stier belegt und befruchtet sicher, seine Kuh kalbt und wirft nicht fehl.

Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

Ihre Buben schicken sie aus gleich einer Herde, und ihre Knaben hüpfen umher.

They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

Sie erheben die Stimme bei Tamburin und Laute und sind fröhlich beim Klange der Schalmei.

They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

In Wohlfahrt verbringen sie ihre Tage, und in einem Augenblick sinken sie in den Scheol hinab.

They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

Und doch sprechen sie zu Gott: Weiche von uns! und nach der Erkenntnis deiner Wege verlangen wir nicht.

Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.

Was ist der Allmächtige, daß wir ihm dienen sollten, und was nützt es uns, daß wir ihn angehen? -

What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

Siehe, ihre Wohlfahrt steht nicht in ihrer Hand. Der Rat der Gesetzlosen sei ferne von mir!

Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

Wie oft geschieht es, daß die Leuchte der Gesetzlosen erlischt und ihr Verderben über sie kommt, daß er ihnen Schlingen zuteilt in seinem Zorn,

How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.

daß sie wie Stroh werden vor dem Winde, und wie Spreu, die der Sturmwind entführt?

They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.

Gott spart, saget ihr, sein Unheil auf für seine Kinder. -Er vergelte ihm, daß er es fühle!

God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.

Seine Augen sollen sein Verderben sehen, und von dem Grimme des Allmächtigen trinke er!

His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

Denn was liegt ihm an seinem Hause nach ihm, wenn die Zahl seiner Monde durchschnitten ist? -

For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

Kann man Gott Erkenntnis lehren, da er es ja ist, der die Hohen richtet?

Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.

Dieser stirbt in seiner Vollkraft, ganz wohlgemut und sorglos.

One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.

Seine Gefäße sind voll Milch, und das Mark seiner Gebeine ist getränkt.

His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.

Und jener stirbt mit bitterer Seele und hat des Guten nicht genossen.

And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.

Zusammen liegen sie im Staube, und Gewürm bedeckt sie.

They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

Siehe, ich kenne eure Gedanken, und die Anschläge, womit ihr mir Gewalt antut.

Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

Denn ihr saget: Wo ist das Haus des Edlen, und wo das Wohngezelt der Gesetzlosen?

For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

Habt ihr nicht befragt, die des Weges vorüberziehen? und erkennet ihr ihre Merkmale nicht:

Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,

daß der Böse verschont wird am Tage des Verderbens, daß am Tage der Zornesfluten sie weggeleitet werden?

That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

Wer wird ihm ins Angesicht seinen Weg kundtun? Und hat er gehandelt, wer wird es ihm vergelten?

Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

Und er wird zu den Gräbern hingebracht, und auf dem Grabhügel wacht er.

Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.

Süß sind ihm die Schollen des Tales. Und hinter ihm her ziehen alle Menschen, und vor ihm her gingen sie ohne Zahl. -

The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

Wie tröstet ihr mich nun mit Dunst? und von euren Antworten bleibt nur Treulosigkeit übrig.

How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
