Proverbs 7

Poikani! kätke minun sanani, ja pidä tykönäs minun käskyni.

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

Ota vaari minun käskyistäni, niin sinä elää saat, ja minun laistani, niinkuin silmäs terästä.

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

Sido ne sormiis, kirjoita ne sydämes tauluun.

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

Sano viiisaudelle: sinä olet sisareni, ja kutsu toimi ystäväkses,

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

Että hän sinua varjelis muukalaisesta vaimosta, ja vieraasta, jonka sanat sileät ovat.

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

Sillä minä kurkistelin huoneeni akkunasta läpi häkin.

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

Ja näin tyhmän nuorukaisen taitamattomain seassa, ja äkkäsin hänen poikain joukossa;

And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

Joka käveli kaduilla hänen nurkkainsa taitse, ja asteli sitä tietä, joka meni hänen huoneeseensa.

Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

Hämärissä, kuin päivä ehtoolla oli, ja jo yö ja pimiä tuli:

In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

Tuima ja hillimätöin, jonka jalat ei pysyneet huoneessansa.

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

Nyt on hän ulkona, nyt kaduilla, ja väijyy joka nurkassa.

Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

Hän otti hänen kiinni, ja suuta antoi hänen ja sanoi häpeemättä:

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

Minä olen tehnyt kiitosuhrin, ja olen tätäpänä täyttänyt lupaukseni:

I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

Sentähden olen minä tullut sinua vastaan, varhain sinua etsimään, ja olen nyt sinut löytänyt.

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

Minä olen koreasti valmistanut vuoteeni Egyptin kirjavalla vaatteella,

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

Ja olen hyvänhajuiseksi tehnyt kammioni mirhamilla, aloella ja kanelilla.

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

Tule, harjoittakaamme kyllin hekumaa aamuun asti, ja huvitelkaammme meitämme keskenämme rakkaudella.

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

Sillä mies ei ole kotona: hän on pitkälle matkalle mennyt.

For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

Hän on ottanut rahasäkin myötänsä, ja tulee kotia äsken määrätyllä päivällä.

He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

Ja niin hän houkutteli monelöla sanalla, ja vaati häntä makialla puheella.

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

Hän meni hänen kanssansa nopiasti, niinkuin teurastettava härkä, ja niinkuin jalkapuuhun, jolla tyhmät rangoitaan.

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

Siihenasti kuin hän nuolilla ampuu hänen maksansa lävitse: ja niinkuin lintu itsensä kiiruhtaa paulaan, ja ei tiedä sitä hengellensä vaaralliseksi.

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

Niin kuulkaat siis minua, minun lapseni, ja ottakaat vaari minun suuni sanoista.

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

Älköön sydämes poiketko hänen tiellensä: älä salli sinuas vietellä hänen retkillensä.

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

Sillä hän on monta haavoittanut ja langettanut, ja kaikkinaiset voimalliset ovat häneltä tapetut.

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

Hänen huoneensa ovat helvetin tiet, jotka menevät alas kuoleman kammioihin.

Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
