Proverbs 28

The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

بےدین فرار ہو جاتا ہے حالانکہ تعاقب کرنے والا کوئی نہیں ہوتا، لیکن راست باز اپنے آپ کو جوان شیرببر کی طرح محفوظ سمجھتا ہے۔

For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

ملک کی خطاکاری کے سبب سے اُس کی حکومت کی یگانگت قائم نہیں رہے گی، لیکن سمجھ دار اور دانش مند آدمی اُسے بڑی دیر تک قائم رکھے گا۔

A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

جو غریب غریبوں پر ظلم کرے وہ اُس موسلادھار بارش کی مانند ہے جو سیلاب لا کر فصلوں کو تباہ کر دیتی ہے۔

They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

جس نے شریعت کو ترک کیا وہ بےدین کی تعریف کرتا ہے، لیکن جو شریعت کے تابع رہتا ہے وہ اُس کی مخالفت کرتا ہے۔

Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

شریر انصاف نہیں سمجھتے، لیکن رب کے طالب سب کچھ سمجھتے ہیں۔

Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

بےالزام زندگی گزارنے والا غریب ٹیڑھی راہوں پر چلنے والے امیر سے بہتر ہے۔

Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

جو شریعت کی پیروی کرے وہ سمجھ دار بیٹا ہے، لیکن عیاشوں کا ساتھی اپنے باپ کی بےعزتی کرتا ہے۔

He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

جو اپنی دولت ناجائز سود سے بڑھائے وہ اُسے کسی اَور کے لئے جمع کر رہا ہے، ایسے شخص کے لئے جو غریبوں پر رحم کرے گا۔

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

جو اپنے کان میں اُنگلی ڈالے تاکہ شریعت کی باتیں نہ سنے اُس کی دعائیں بھی قابلِ گھن ہیں۔

Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

جو سیدھی راہ پر چلنے والوں کو غلط راہ پر لائے وہ اپنے ہی گڑھے میں گر جائے گا، لیکن بےالزام اچھی میراث پائیں گے۔

The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

امیر اپنے آپ کو دانش مند سمجھتا ہے، لیکن جو ضرورت مند سمجھ دار ہے وہ اُس کا اصلی کردار معلوم کر لیتا ہے۔

When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

جب راست باز فتح یاب ہوں تو ملک کی شان و شوکت بڑھ جاتی ہے، لیکن جب بےدین اُٹھ کھڑے ہوں تو لوگ چھپ جاتے ہیں۔

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

جو اپنے گناہ چھپائے وہ ناکام رہے گا، لیکن جو اُنہیں تسلیم کر کے ترک کرے وہ رحم پائے گا۔

Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

مبارک ہے وہ جو ہر وقت رب کا خوف مانے، لیکن جو اپنا دل سخت کرے وہ مصیبت میں پھنس جائے گا۔

As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

پست حال قوم پر حکومت کرنے والا بےدین غُراتے ہوئے شیرببر اور حملہ آور ریچھ کی مانند ہے۔

The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

جہاں ناسمجھ حکمران ہے وہاں ظلم ہوتا ہے، لیکن جسے غلط نفع سے نفرت ہو اُس کی عمر دراز ہو گی۔

A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

جو کسی کو قتل کرے وہ موت تک اپنے قصور کے نیچے دبا ہوا مارا مارا پھرے گا۔ ایسے شخص کا سہارا نہ بن!

Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

جو بےالزام زندگی گزارے وہ بچا رہے گا، لیکن جو ٹیڑھی راہ پر چلے وہ اچانک ہی گر جائے گا۔

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

جو اپنی زمین کی کھیتی باڑی کرے وہ جی بھر کر روٹی کھائے گا، لیکن جو فضول چیزوں کے پیچھے پڑ جائے وہ غربت سے سیر ہو جائے گا۔

A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

قابلِ اعتماد آدمی کو کثرت کی برکتیں حاصل ہوں گی، لیکن جو بھاگ بھاگ کر دولت جمع کرنے میں مصروف رہے وہ سزا سے نہیں بچے گا۔

To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

جانب داری بُری بات ہے، لیکن انسان روٹی کا ٹکڑا حاصل کرنے کے لئے مجرم بن جاتا ہے۔

He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

لالچی بھاگ بھاگ کر دولت جمع کرتا ہے، اُسے معلوم ہی نہیں کہ اِس کا انجام غربت ہی ہے۔

He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

آخرکار نصیحت دینے والا چاپلوسی کرنے والے سے زیادہ منظور ہوتا ہے۔

Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

جو اپنے باپ یا ماں کو لُوٹ کر کہے، ”یہ جرم نہیں ہے“ وہ مہلک قاتل کا شریکِ کار ہوتا ہے۔

He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

لالچی جھگڑوں کا منبع رہتا ہے، لیکن جو رب پر بھروسا رکھے وہ خوش حال رہے گا۔

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

جو اپنے دل پر بھروسا رکھے وہ بےوقوف ہے، لیکن جو حکمت کی راہ پر چلے وہ محفوظ رہے گا۔

He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

غریبوں کو دینے والا ضرورت مند نہیں ہو گا، لیکن جو اپنی آنکھیں بند کر کے اُنہیں نظرانداز کرے اُس پر بہت لعنتیں آئیں گی۔

When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.

جب بےدین اُٹھ کھڑے ہوں تو لوگ چھپ جاتے ہیں، لیکن جب ہلاک ہو جائیں تو راست بازوں کی تعداد بڑھ جاتی ہے۔
