Proverbs 27

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

اُس پر شیخی نہ مار جو تُو کل کرے گا، تجھے کیا معلوم کہ کل کا دن کیا کچھ فراہم کرے گا؟

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

تیرا اپنا منہ اور اپنے ہونٹ تیری تعریف نہ کریں بلکہ وہ جو تجھ سے واقف بھی نہ ہو۔

A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

پتھر بھاری اور ریت وزنی ہے، لیکن جو احمق تجھے تنگ کرے وہ زیادہ ناقابلِ برداشت ہے۔

Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

غصہ ظالم ہوتا اور طیش سیلاب کی طرح انسان پر آ جاتا ہے، لیکن کون حسد کا مقابلہ کر سکتا ہے؟

Open rebuke is better than secret love.

کھلی ملامت چھپی ہوئی محبت سے بہتر ہے۔

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

پیار کرنے والے کی ضربیں وفا کا ثبوت ہیں، لیکن نفرت کرنے والے کے متعدد بوسوں سے خبردار رہ۔

The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

جو سیر ہے وہ شہد کو بھی پاؤں تلے روند دیتا ہے، لیکن بھوکے کو کڑوی چیزیں بھی میٹھی لگتی ہیں۔

As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

جو آدمی اپنے گھر سے نکل کر مارا مارا پھرے وہ اُس پرندے کی مانند ہے جو اپنے گھونسلے سے بھاگ کر کبھی اِدھر کبھی اُدھر پھڑپھڑاتا رہتا ہے۔

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

تیل اور بخور دل کو خوش کرتے ہیں، لیکن دوست اپنے اچھے مشوروں سے خوشی دلاتا ہے۔

Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

اپنے دوستوں کو کبھی نہ چھوڑ، نہ اپنے ذاتی دوستوں کو نہ اپنے باپ کے دوستوں کو۔ تب تجھے مصیبت کے دن اپنے بھائی سے مدد نہیں مانگنی پڑے گی۔ کیونکہ قریب کا پڑوسی دُور کے بھائی سے بہتر ہے۔

My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

میرے بیٹے، دانش مند بن کر میرے دل کو خوش کر تاکہ مَیں اپنے حقیر جاننے والے کو جواب دے سکوں۔

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

ذہین آدمی خطرہ پہلے سے بھانپ کر چھپ جاتا ہے، جبکہ سادہ لوح آگے بڑھ کر اُس کی لپیٹ میں آ جاتا ہے۔

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

ضمانت کا وہ لباس واپس نہ کر جو کسی نے پردیسی کا ضامن بن کر دیا ہے۔ اگر وہ اجنبی عورت کا ضامن ہو تو اُس ضمانت پر ضرور قبضہ کر جو اُس نے دی تھی۔

He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

جو صبح سویرے بلند آواز سے اپنے پڑوسی کو برکت دے اُس کی برکت لعنت ٹھہرائی جائے گی۔

A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

جھگڑالو بیوی موسلادھار بارش کے باعث مسلسل ٹپکنے والی چھت کی مانند ہے۔

Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

اُسے روکنا ہَوا کو روکنے یا تیل کو پکڑنے کے برابر ہے۔

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

لوہا لوہے کو اور انسان انسان کے ذہن کو تیز کرتا ہے۔

Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

جو انجیر کے درخت کی دیکھ بھال کرے وہ اُس کا پھل کھائے گا، جو اپنے مالک کی وفاداری سے خدمت کرے اُس کا احترام کیا جائے گا۔

As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

جس طرح پانی چہرے کو منعکس کرتا ہے اُسی طرح انسان کا دل انسان کو منعکس کرتا ہے۔

Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

نہ موت اور نہ پاتال کبھی سیر ہوتے ہیں، نہ انسان کی آنکھیں۔

As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

سونا اور چاندی کٹھالی میں پگھلا کر پاک صاف کر، لیکن انسان کا کردار اِس سے معلوم کر کہ لوگ اُس کی کتنی قدر کرتے ہیں۔

Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

اگر احمق کو اناج کی طرح اُوکھلی اور موسل سے کوٹا بھی جائے توبھی اُس کی حماقت دُور نہیں ہو جائے گی۔

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

احتیاط سے اپنی بھیڑبکریوں کی حالت پر دھیان دے، اپنے ریوڑوں پر خوب توجہ دے۔

For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

کیونکہ کوئی بھی دولت ہمیشہ تک قائم نہیں رہتی، کوئی بھی تاج نسل در نسل برقرار نہیں رہتا۔

The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.

کھلے میدان میں گھاس کاٹ کر جمع کر تاکہ نئی گھاس اُگ سکے، چارا پہاڑوں سے بھی اکٹھا کر۔

The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

تب تُو بھیڑوں کی اُون سے کپڑے بنا سکے گا، بکروں کی فروخت سے کھیت خرید سکے گا،

And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

اور بکریاں اِتنا دودھ دیں گی کہ تیرے، تیرے خاندان اور تیرے نوکر چاکروں کے لئے کافی ہو گا۔
