Luke 3

3:1

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cæsar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judæa, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,

پھر روم کے شہنشاہ تبریُس کی حکومت کا پندرھواں سال آ گیا۔ اُس وقت پنطیُس پیلاطس صوبہ یہودیہ کا گورنر تھا، ہیرودیس انتپاس گلیل کا حاکم تھا، اُس کا بھائی فلپّس اتوریہ اور ترخونیتس کے علاقے کا، جبکہ لسانیاس ابلینے کا۔

3:2

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

حنّا اور کائفا دونوں امامِ اعظم تھے۔ اُن دنوں میں اللہ یحییٰ بن زکریاہ سے ہم کلام ہوا جب وہ ریگستان میں تھا۔

3:3

And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

پھر وہ دریائے یردن کے پورے علاقے میں سے گزرا۔ ہر جگہ اُس نے اعلان کیا کہ توبہ کر کے بپتسمہ لو تاکہ تمہیں اپنے گناہوں کی معافی مل جائے۔

3:4

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

یوں یسعیاہ نبی کے الفاظ پورے ہوئے جو اُس کی کتاب میں درج ہیں: ’ریگستان میں ایک آواز پکار رہی ہے، رب کی راہ تیار کرو! اُس کے راستے سیدھے بناؤ۔

3:5

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

لازم ہے کہ ہر وادی بھر دی جائے، ضروری ہے کہ ہر پہاڑ اور بلند جگہ میدان بن جائے۔ جو ٹیڑھا ہے اُسے سیدھا کیا جائے، جو ناہموار ہے اُسے ہموار کیا جائے۔

3:6

And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

اور تمام انسان اللہ کی نجات دیکھیں گے۔‘

3:7

Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

جب بہت سے لوگ یحییٰ کے پاس آئے تاکہ اُس سے بپتسمہ لیں تو اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”اے زہریلے سانپ کے بچو! کس نے تم کو آنے والے غضب سے بچنے کی ہدایت کی؟

3:8

Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

اپنی زندگی سے ظاہر کرو کہ تم نے واقعی توبہ کی ہے۔ یہ خیال مت کرو کہ ہم تو بچ جائیں گے کیونکہ ابراہیم ہمارا باپ ہے۔ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اللہ اِن پتھروں سے بھی ابراہیم کے لئے اولاد پیدا کر سکتا ہے۔

3:9

And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

اب تو عدالت کی کلہاڑی درختوں کی جڑوں پر رکھی ہوئی ہے۔ ہر درخت جو اچھا پھل نہ لائے کاٹا اور آگ میں جھونکا جائے گا۔“
