Proverbs 7

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

हे मेरे पुत्र, मेरे वचनों को पाल और अपने मन में मेरे आदेश संचित कर।

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

मेरे आदेशों का पालन करता रहा तो तू जीवन पायेगा। तू मेरे उपदेशों को अपनी आँखों की पुतली सरीखा सम्भाल कर रख।

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

उनको अपनी उंगलियों पर बाँध ले, तू अपने हृदय पटल पर उनको लिख ले।

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

बुद्ध से कह, “तू मेरी बहन है” और तू समझ बूझ को अपनी कुटुम्बी जन कह।

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.

वे ही तुझको उस कुलटा से और स्वेच्छाचारिणी पत्नी के लुभावनें वचनों से बचायेंगे।

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

एक दिन मैंने अपने घर की खिड़की के झरोखे से झाँका,

And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

सरल युवकों के बीच एक ऐसा नवयुवक देखा जिसको भले—बुरे की पहचान नहीं थी।

Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

वह उसी गली से होकर, उसी कुलटा के नुक्कड़ के पास से जा रहा था। वह उसके ही घर की तरफ बढ़ता जा रहा था।

In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

सूरज शाम के धुंधलके में डूबता था, रात के अन्धेरे की तहें जमती जाती थी।

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

तभी कोई कामिनी उससे मिलने के लिये निकल कर बाहर आई। वह वेश्या के वेश में सजी हुई थी। उसकी इच्छाओं में कपट छुपा था।

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

वह वाचाल और निरंकुश थी। उसके पैर कभी घर में नहीं टिकते थे।

Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

वह कभी — कभी गलियों में, कभी चौराहों पर, और हर किसी नुक्कड़ पर घात लगाती थी।

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

उसने उसे रोक लिया और उसे पकड़ा। उसने उसे निर्लज्ज मुख से चूम लिया, फिर उससे बोली,

I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

“आज मुझे मौत्री भेंट अर्पित करनी थी। मैंने अपनी मन्नत पूरी कर ली है। मैंने जो प्रतिज्ञा की थी, दे दिया है। उसका कुछ भाग मैं घर ले जा रही हूँ। अब मेरे पास बहुतेरे खाने के लिये है!

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

इसलिये मैं तुझसे मिलने बाहर आई। मैं तुझे खोजती रही और तुझको पा लिया।

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

मैंने मिस्र के मलमल की रंगों भरी चादर से सेज सजाई है।

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

मैंने अपनी सेज को गंधरस, दालचीनी और अगर गंध से सुगन्धित किया है।

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

तू मेरे पास आ जा। भोर की किरण चूर हुए, प्रेम की दाखमधु पीते रहें। आ, हम परस्पर प्रेम से भोग करें।

For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

मेरे पति घर पर नहीं है। वह दूर यात्रा पर गया है।

He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

वह अपनी थैली धन से भर कर ले गया है और पूर्णमासी तक घर पर नहीं होगा।”

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

उसने उसे लुभावने शब्दों से मोह लिया। उसको मीठी मधुर वाणी से फुसला लिया।

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

वह तुरन्त उसके पीछे ऐसे हो लिया जैसे कोई बैल वध के लिये खिंचा चला जाये। जैसे कोई निरा मूर्ख जाल में पैर धरे।

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

जब तक एक तीर उसका हृदय नहीं बेधेगा तब तक वह उस पक्षी सा जाल पर बिना यह जाने टूट पड़ेगा कि जाल उसके प्राण हर लेगा।

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

सो मेरे पुत्रों, अब मेरी बात सुनो और जो कुछ मैं कहता हूँ उस पर ध्यान धरो।

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

अपना मन कुलटा की राहों में मत खिंचने दो अथवा उसे उसके मार्गो पर मत भटकने दो।

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

कितने ही शिकार उसने मार गिरायें हैं। उसने जिनको मारा उनका जमघट बहुत बड़ा है।

Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

उस का घर वह राजमार्ग है जो कब्र को जाता है और नीचे मृत्यु की काल—कोठरी में उतरता है!
