Job 5

Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

فریاد برآور، ببین که آیا کسی به داد تو می‌رسد؟ دست به دامان کدام‌یک از مقدّسین خواهی شد؟

For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

غصّه، نادانان را می‌کشد و حسادت، شخص ساده لوحان را.

I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

آنها برای مدّتی موفّق هستند، امّا بلای ناگهانی بر خانهٔ‌شان نازل می‌شود.

His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

فرزندانشان بی‌پناه می‌گردند؛ در امنیّت نیستند و کسی از آنها حمایت نمی‌کند.

Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

مردمانِ گرسنه محصولات آنها را حتّی اگر در میان خارها باشد، خواهند خورد و اشخاص حریص، دارایی آنها را غارت خواهند نمود.

Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

شرارت در خاک رشد نمی‌کند و مشکلات هیچ‌گاه از زمین نمی‌رویند،

Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

بلکه همان‌طور که شعله از آتش بلند می‌شود، بدبختی هم از خود انسان سرچشمه می‌گیرد.

I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

ولی اگر من به جای تو بودم، برای حل مشکل خود به سوی خدا باز می‌گشتم،

Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

زیرا او کارهای عجیب و معجزات حیرت‌انگیز و بی‌‌شمار انجام می‌دهد.

Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

باران را می‌فرستد و کشتزارها را آبیاری می‌کند.

To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

فروتنان را سرفراز، و ماتمیان را شادمان می‌سازد.

He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

نقشهٔ حیله‌گران را باطل می‌کند و آنها را در کارهایشان ناکام می‌سازد.

He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

خودشان در دامی که برای دیگران گذاشته‌اند، گرفتار می‌شوند؛ و توطئهٔ آنها نقش برآب می‌گردد.

They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

روزِ روشنِ آنها به شبِ تاریک مبدّل می‌شود و کورمال‌کورمال راه می‌روند.

But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

امّا خدا نیازمندان و فقیران را از ظلمِ ظالم و از چنگِ زورمندان نجات می‌دهد.

So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

به مسکینان امید می‌بخشد و دهان شریران را خواهد بست.

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

خوشا به حال کسی‌که خدا او را تنبیه می‌کند، پس تو نباید از تنبیه قادر مطلق آزرده شوی،

For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

زیرا اگر خدا کسی را مجروح می‌کند، خودش هم جراحت او را می‌بندد، بیمار می‌سازد و شفا می‌دهد.

He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

او بارها تو را از بلاهای گوناگون نجات خواهد داد.

In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

در وقت قحطی تو را از مرگ رهایی می‌بخشد و هنگام جنگ از دَم شمشیر.

Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

از زخمِ زبان در امان خواهی بود و از هلاکت، تو را خواهد رهانید.

At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

به جنگ و قحطی خواهی خندید و از حیوانات وحشی نخواهی ترسید.

For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

زمینی را که شخم می‌زنی بدون سنگ خواهد بود و با حیوانات وحشی در صلح و صفا زندگی خواهی کرد.

And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

خانه‌ات محفوظ بوده و اموال تو دزدیده نخواهد شد.

Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

فرزندانت همچون علف صحرا، زیاد خواهند شد.

Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

مانند خوشهٔ رسیدهٔ گندم، که در موسمش درو می‌شود، در پیری و سالخوردگی از جهان خواهی رفت.

Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

ما همه را تحقیق کردیم و تمام اینها حقیقت دارند. پس تو باید بپذیری.
