Job 9

Job vastasi ja sanoi:

Then Job answered and said,

Minä kyllä sen tiedän, että niin on, ettei ihminen taida hurskas olla Jumalan edessä.

I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

Jos hän tahtois riidellä hänen kanssansa, ei hän taitais vastata häntä yhtä tuhanteen.

If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

Hän on viisas ja voimallinen: kenenkä siitä on hyvää ollut, kuin häntä vastaan on itsensä asettanut?

He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

Hän siirtää vuoret ennenkuin he sen ymmärtävät, jotka hän vihassansa kukistaa.

Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

Hän liikuttaa maan siastansa, niin että sen patsaat vapisevat.

Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

Hän puhuu auringolle, niin ei se nouse; ja hän lukitsee tähdet.

Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

Hän yksin levittää taivaat, ja käy meren aaltoin päällä.

Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

Hän tekee Otavan ja Kointähden, Seulaiset ja ne tähdet etelään päin.

Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

Hän tekee suuria töitä, joita ei taideta tutkia, ja epälukuisia ihmeitä.

Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

Katso, hän käy minun ohitseni ennenkuin minä sen havaitsen, ja menee pois ennenkuin minä sen ymmärrän.

Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

Katso, jos hän menee äkisti, kuka noutaa hänen jälleen? kuka sanoo hänelle: mitäs teet?

Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

Hän on Jumala, hänen vihaansa ei yksikään aseta; hänen allensa pitää itsensä kumartaman ylpiätkin herrat.

If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

Kuinka minun pitäisi häntä vastaaman, ja löytämän sanoja häntä vastaan?

How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

Ehkä minulla vielä oikeus olis, niin en kuitenkaan taida minä häntä vastata; vaan täytyis oikeudessa rukoilla.

Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

Ja ehkä minä vielä häntä avuksihuutaisin, ja hän kuulis minua, niin en minä uskoisi, että hän kuultelis minun ääntäni;

If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

Sillä hän hän runtelee minun tuulispäällä, ja enentää minun haavani ilman syytä.

For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

Ei hän anna minun henkeni virota, vaan täyttää minun murheella.

He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

Jos joku tahtoo voimaa, katso, hän on voimallinen; jos joku tahtoo oikeutta, kuka todistaa minun kanssani?

If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

Jos minä sanoisin: minä olen oikia, niin minun suuni kuitenkin tuomitsee minun: eli minä olen vakaa, niin hän kuitenkin tekee minun pahaksi.

If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

Ehkä minä vielä vakaa olisin, niin en minä kuitenkaan tunne itsiäni; vaan minä suutun eIämääni.

Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

Se on se ainoa minkä minä sanonut olen, hän kadottaa hyvän ja jumalattoman.

This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

Kuin hän rupee lyömään, niin hän tappaa äkisti, ja pilkkaa viattomain kiusausta.

If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

Maa annetaan jumalattoman käsiin, hän peittää sen tuomarien kasvot: ellei se niin ole, kuinka se myös toisin on?

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Minun päiväni ovat olleet nopiammat kuin juoksia: ne ovat paenneet, ja ei mitään hyvää nähneet.

Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

Ne ovat pois menneet kuin joutuva haaksi, kuin kotka lentää rualle.

They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.

Koska minä ajattelen: minä unhotan valitukseni, ja muutan kasvoni ja virvoitan minuni:

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

Niin minä pelkään kaikkia minun kipujani, tietäen, ettes anna minun olla viatoinna.

I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

Jos olen jumalatoin, miksi minä nyt itsiäni hukkaan vaivaan?

If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

Vaikka minä pesisin itseni lumivedessä ja puhdistaisin käteni saippualla,

If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

Niin sinä kuitenkin pistäisit minun lokaan; ja minun vaatteeni olisivat minulle kauhistukseksi.

Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

Sillä ei hän ole minun vertaiseni, jota minä vastata taidan, että me ynnä tulisimme oikeuden eteen.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

Ei ole joka meitä eroittaa, joka laskis kätensä meidän kahden välillemme.

Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

Hän ottakoon vitsansa pois minusta, ja älköön hänen hirmuisuutensa peljättäkö minua;

Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

Että minä puhuisin ja en pelkäisi häntä; sillä en minä mitään kanssani tiedä.

Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
