Proverbs 1

Παροιμιαι Σολομωντος, υιου του Δαβιδ, βασιλεως του Ισραηλ,

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

δια να γνωριση τις σοφιαν και παιδειαν, δια να νοηση λογους φρονησεως,

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

δια να λαβη διδασκαλιαν συνεσεως, δικαιοσυνης και κρισεως και ευθυτητος,

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

δια να δωση νοησιν εις τους απλους, και εις τον νεον μαθησιν και διαγνωσιν.

To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

Ο σοφος ακουων θελει γεινει σοφωτερος, και ο νοημων θελει αποκτησει επιστημην κυβερνησεως

A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

ωστε να εννοη παροιμιαν και σκοτεινον λογον, ρησεις σοφων και αινιγματα αυτων.

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

Αρχη σοφιας φοβος Κυριου οι αφρονες καταφρονουσι την σοφιαν και την διδασκαλιαν.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Ακουε, υιε μου, την διδασκαλιαν του πατρος σου, και μη απορριψης τον νομον της μητρος σου.

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Διοτι ταυτα θελουσιν εισθαι στεφανος χαριτων εις την κορυφην σου και περιδεραιον περι τον τραχηλον σου.

For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Υιε μου, εαν θελησωσιν οι αμαρτωλοι να σε δελεασωσι, μη θελησης

My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

εαν ειπωσιν, Ελθε μεθ ημων, ας ενεδρευσωμεν δι αιμα, ας επιβουλευθωμεν αναιτιως τον αθωον,

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

Ας καταπιωμεν αυτους ζωντας, ως ο αδης, και ολοκληρους ως τους καταβαινοντας εις τον λακκον

Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

θελομεν ευρει παν πολυτιμον αγαθον, θελομεν γεμισει τους οικους ημων απο λαφυρων

We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

θες τον κληρον σου μεταξυ ημων, εν βαλαντιον ας ηναι εις παντας ημας

Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

υιε μου, μη περιπατησης εν οδω μετ αυτων απεχε τον ποδα σου απο των τριβων αυτων

My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

διοτι οι ποδες αυτων τρεχουσιν εις το κακον, και σπευδουσιν εις το να χυσωσιν αιμα.

For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

Διοτι ματαιως εξαπλονεται δικτυον εμπροσθεν των οφθαλμων παντος πτερωτου.

Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

Διοτι ουτοι ενεδρευουσι κατα του ιδιου αυτων αιματος, επιβουλευονται τας εαυτων ψυχας

And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

Τοιαυται ειναι αι οδοι παντος πλεονεκτου η πλεονεξια αφαιρει την ζωην των κυριευομενων υπ αυτης.

So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

Η σοφια φωναζει εξω, εκπεμπει την φωνην αυτης εν ταις πλατειαις

Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

Κραζει επι κεφαλης των αγορων, εν ταις εισοδοις των πυλων απαγγελλει τους λογους αυτης δια της πολεως, λεγουσα,

She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

Εως ποτε, μωροι, θελετε αγαπα την μωριαν, και οι χλευασται θελουσιν ηδυνεσθαι εις τους χλευασμους αυτων, και οι αφρονες θελουσι μισει την γνωσιν;

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

Επιστρεψατε προς τους ελεγχους μου ιδου, εγω θελω εκχεει το πνευμα μου εφ υμας, θελω σας καμει να νοησητε τους λογους μου.

Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Επειδη εγω εκραζον, και σεις δεν υπηκουετε εξετεινον την χειρα μου, και ουδεις προσειχεν

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

Αλλα κατεφρονειτε πασας τας συμβουλας μου και τους ελεγχους μου δεν εδεχεσθε

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

δια τουτο και εγω θελω επιγελασει εις τον ολεθρον σας θελω καταχαρη, οταν επελθη ο φοβος σας.

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

Οταν ο φοβος σας επελθη ως ερημωσις και η καταστροφη σας εφορμηση ως ανεμοστροβιλος, οταν η θλιψις και η στενοχωρια ελθωσιν εφ υμας

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

τοτε θελουσι με επικαλεσθη, αλλα δεν θελω αποκριθη επιμονως θελουσι με εκζητησει, αλλα δεν θελουσι με ευρει.

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Διοτι εμισησαν την γνωσιν και τον φοβον του Κυριου δεν εξελεξαν

For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

δεν ηθελησαν τας συμβουλας μου κατεφρονησαν παντας τους ελεγχους μου

They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

δια τουτο θελουσι φαγει απο των καρπων της οδου αυτων και θελουσι χορτασθη απο των κακοβουλιων αυτων.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Διοτι η αποστασια των μωρων θελει θανατωσει αυτους, και η αμεριμνησια των αφρονων θελει αφανισει αυτους.

For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

Οστις ομως ακουει εμου, θελει κατοικησει εν ασφαλεια και θελει ησυχαζει, μη φοβουμενος κακον.

But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
