Proverbs 1

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

ذیل میں اسرائیل کے بادشاہ سلیمان بن داؤد کی امثال قلم بند ہیں۔

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

اِن سے تُو حکمت اور تربیت حاصل کرے گا، بصیرت کے الفاظ سمجھنے کے قابل ہو جائے گا،

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

اور دانائی دلانے والی تربیت، راستی، انصاف اور دیانت داری اپنائے گا۔

To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

یہ امثال سادہ لوح کو ہوشیاری اور نوجوان کو علم اور تمیز سکھاتی ہیں۔

A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

جو دانا ہے وہ سن کر اپنے علم میں اضافہ کرے، جو سمجھ دار ہے وہ راہنمائی کرنے کا فن سیکھ لے۔

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

تب وہ امثال اور تمثیلیں، دانش مندوں کی باتیں اور اُن کے معمے سمجھ لے گا۔

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

حکمت اِس سے شروع ہوتی ہے کہ ہم رب کا خوف مانیں۔ صرف احمق حکمت اور تربیت کو حقیر جانتے ہیں۔

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

میرے بیٹے، اپنے باپ کی تربیت کے تابع رہ، اور اپنی ماں کی ہدایت مسترد نہ کر۔

For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

کیونکہ یہ تیرے سر پر دل کش سہرا اور تیرے گلے میں گلوبند ہیں۔

My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

میرے بیٹے، جب خطاکار تجھے پُھسلانے کی کوشش کریں تو اُن کے پیچھے نہ ہو لے۔

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

اُن کی بات نہ مان جب وہ کہیں، ”آ، ہمارے ساتھ چل! ہم تاک میں بیٹھ کر کسی کو قتل کریں، بلاوجہ کسی بےقصور کی گھات لگائیں۔

Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

ہم اُنہیں پاتال کی طرح زندہ نگل لیں، اُنہیں موت کے گڑھے میں اُترنے والوں کی طرح ایک دم ہڑپ کر لیں۔

We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

ہم ہر قسم کی قیمتی چیز حاصل کریں گے، اپنے گھروں کو لُوٹ کے مال سے بھر لیں گے۔

Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

آ، جرٲت کر کے ہم میں شریک ہو جا، ہم لُوٹ کا تمام مال برابر تقسیم کریں گے۔“

My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

میرے بیٹے، اُن کے ساتھ مت جانا، اپنا پاؤں اُن کی راہوں پر رکھنے سے روک لینا۔

For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

کیونکہ اُن کے پاؤں غلط کام کے پیچھے دوڑتے، خون بہانے کے لئے بھاگتے ہیں۔

Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

جب چڑی مار اپنا جال لگا کر اُس پر پرندوں کو پھانسنے کے لئے روٹی کے ٹکڑے بکھیر دیتا ہے تو پرندوں کی نظر میں یہ بےمقصد ہے۔

And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

یہ لوگ بھی ایک دن پھنس جائیں گے۔ جب تاک میں بیٹھ جاتے ہیں تو اپنے آپ کو تباہ کرتے ہیں، جب دوسروں کی گھات لگاتے ہیں تو اپنی ہی جان کو نقصان پہنچاتے ہیں۔

So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

یہی اُن سب کا انجام ہے جو ناروا نفع کے پیچھے بھاگتے ہیں۔ ناجائز نفع اپنے مالک کی جان چھین لیتا ہے۔

Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

حکمت گلی میں زور سے آواز دیتی، چوکوں میں بلند آواز سے پکارتی ہے۔

She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

جہاں سب سے زیادہ شور شرابہ ہے وہاں وہ چلّاچلّا کر بولتی، شہر کے دروازوں پر ہی اپنی تقریر کرتی ہے،

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

”اے سادہ لوح لوگو، تم کب تک اپنی سادہ لوحی سے محبت رکھو گے؟ مذاق اُڑانے والے کب تک اپنے مذاق سے لطف اُٹھائیں گے، احمق کب تک علم سے نفرت کریں گے؟

Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

آؤ، میری سرزنش پر دھیان دو۔ تب مَیں اپنی روح کا چشمہ تم پر پھوٹنے دوں گی، تمہیں اپنی باتیں سناؤں گی۔

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

لیکن جب مَیں نے آواز دی تو تم نے انکار کیا، جب مَیں نے اپنا ہاتھ تمہاری طرف بڑھایا تو کسی نے بھی توجہ نہ دی۔

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

تم نے میرے کسی مشورے کی پروا نہ کی، میری ملامت تمہارے نزدیک قابلِ قبول نہیں تھی۔

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

اِس لئے جب تم پر آفت آئے گی تو مَیں قہقہہ لگاؤں گی، جب تم ہول ناک مصیبت میں پھنس جاؤ گے تو تمہارا مذاق اُڑاؤں گی۔

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

اُس وقت تم پر دہشت ناک آندھی ٹوٹ پڑے گی، آفت طوفان کی طرح تم پر آئے گی، اور تم مصیبت اور تکلیف کے سیلاب میں ڈوب جاؤ گے۔

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

تب وہ مجھے آواز دیں گے، لیکن مَیں اُن کی نہیں سنوں گی، وہ مجھے ڈھونڈیں گے پر پائیں گے نہیں۔

For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

کیونکہ وہ علم سے نفرت کر کے رب کا خوف ماننے کے لئے تیار نہیں تھے۔

They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

میرا مشورہ اُنہیں قبول نہیں تھا بلکہ وہ میری ہر سرزنش کو حقیر جانتے تھے۔

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

چنانچہ اب وہ اپنے چال چلن کا پھل کھائیں، اپنے منصوبوں کی فصل کھا کھا کر سیر ہو جائیں۔

For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

کیونکہ صحیح راہ سے دُور ہونے کا عمل سادہ لوح کو مار ڈالتا ہے، اور احمقوں کی بےپروائی اُنہیں تباہ کرتی ہے۔

But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

لیکن جو میری سنے وہ سکون سے بسے گا، ہول ناک مصیبت اُسے پریشان نہیں کرے گی۔“
