Acts 10

There was a certain man in Cæsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

قیصریہ میں ایک رومی افسر رہتا تھا جس کا نام کُرنیلیُس تھا۔ وہ اُس پلٹن کے سَو فوجیوں پر مقرر تھا جو اطالوی کہلاتی تھی۔

A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

کُرنیلیُس اپنے پورے گھرانے سمیت دین دار اور خدا ترس تھا۔ وہ فیاضی سے خیرات دیتا اور متواتر دعا میں لگا رہتا تھا۔

He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

ایک دن اُس نے تین بجے دوپہر کے وقت رویا دیکھی۔ اُس میں اُس نے صاف طور پر اللہ کا ایک فرشتہ دیکھا جو اُس کے پاس آیا اور کہا، ”کُرنیلیُس!“

And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

وہ گھبرا گیا اور اُسے غور سے دیکھتے ہوئے کہا، ”میرے آقا، فرمائیں۔“ فرشتے نے کہا، ”تمہاری دعاؤں اور خیرات کی قربانی اللہ کے حضور پہنچ گئی ہے اور منظور ہے۔

And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

اب کچھ آدمی یافا بھیج دو۔ وہاں ایک آدمی بنام شمعون ہے جو پطرس کہلاتا ہے۔ اُسے بُلا کر لے آؤ۔

He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

پطرس ایک چمڑا رنگنے والے کا مہمان ہے جس کا نام شمعون ہے۔ اُس کا گھر سمندر کے قریب واقع ہے۔“

And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

جوں ہی فرشتہ چلا گیا کُرنیلیُس نے دو نوکروں اور اپنے خدمت گار فوجیوں میں سے ایک خدا ترس آدمی کو بُلایا۔

And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

سب کچھ سنا کر اُس نے اُنہیں یافا بھیج دیا۔

On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:

اگلے دن پطرس دوپہر تقریباً بارہ بجے دعا کرنے کے لئے چھت پر چڑھ گیا۔ اُس وقت کُرنیلیُس کے بھیجے ہوئے آدمی یافا شہر کے قریب پہنچ گئے تھے۔

And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

پطرس کو بھوک لگی اور وہ کچھ کھانا چاہتا تھا۔ جب اُس کے لئے کھانا تیار کیا جا رہا تھا تو وہ وجد کی حالت میں آ گیا۔

And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

اُس نے دیکھا کہ آسمان کھل گیا ہے اور ایک چیز زمین پر اُتر رہی ہے، کتان کی بڑی چادر جیسی جو اپنے چار کونوں سے نیچے اُتاری جا رہی ہے۔

Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

چادر میں تمام قسم کے جانور ہیں: چار پاؤں رکھنے والے، رینگنے والے اور پرندے۔

And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

پھر ایک آواز اُس سے مخاطب ہوئی، ”اُٹھ، پطرس۔ کچھ ذبح کر کے کھا!“

But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

پطرس نے اعتراض کیا، ”ہرگز نہیں خداوند، مَیں نے کبھی بھی حرام یا ناپاک کھانا نہیں کھایا۔“

And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

لیکن یہ آواز دوبارہ اُس سے ہم کلام ہوئی، ”جو کچھ اللہ نے پاک کر دیا ہے اُسے ناپاک قرار نہ دے۔“

This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

یہی کچھ تین مرتبہ ہوا، پھر چادر کو اچانک آسمان پر واپس اُٹھا لیا گیا۔

Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

پطرس بڑی اُلجھن میں پڑ گیا۔ وہ ابھی سوچ رہا تھا کہ اِس رویا کا کیا مطلب ہے تو کُرنیلیُس کے بھیجے ہوئے آدمی شمعون کے گھر کا پتا کر کے اُس کے گیٹ پر پہنچ گئے۔

And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

آواز دے کر اُنہوں نے پوچھا، ”کیا شمعون جو پطرس کہلاتا ہے آپ کے مہمان ہیں؟“

While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

پطرس ابھی رویا پر غور کر ہی رہا تھا کہ روح القدس اُس سے ہم کلام ہوا، ”شمعون، تین مرد تیری تلاش میں ہیں۔

Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

اُٹھ اور چھت سے اُتر کر اُن کے ساتھ چلا جا۔ مت جھجکنا، کیونکہ مَیں ہی نے اُنہیں تیرے پاس بھیجا ہے۔“

Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

چنانچہ پطرس اُن آدمیوں کے پاس گیا اور اُن سے کہا، ”مَیں وہی ہوں جسے آپ ڈھونڈ رہے ہیں۔ آپ کیوں میرے پاس آئے ہیں؟“

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”ہم سَو فوجیوں پر مقرر افسر کُرنیلیُس کے گھر سے آئے ہیں۔ وہ انصاف پرور اور خدا ترس آدمی ہیں۔ پوری یہودی قوم اِس کی تصدیق کر سکتی ہے۔ ایک مُقدّس فرشتے نے اُنہیں ہدایت دی کہ وہ آپ کو اپنے گھر بُلا کر آپ کا پیغام سنیں۔“

Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

یہ سن کر پطرس اُنہیں اندر لے گیا اور اُن کی مہمان نوازی کی۔ اگلے دن وہ اُٹھ کر اُن کے ساتھ روانہ ہوا۔ یافا کے کچھ بھائی بھی ساتھ گئے۔

And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

ایک دن کے بعد وہ قیصریہ پہنچ گیا۔ کُرنیلیُس اُن کے انتظار میں تھا۔ اُس نے اپنے رشتے داروں اور قریبی دوستوں کو بھی اپنے گھر جمع کر رکھا تھا۔

And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

جب پطرس گھر میں داخل ہوا تو کُرنیلیُس نے اُس کے سامنے گر کر اُسے سجدہ کیا۔

But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

لیکن پطرس نے اُسے اُٹھا کر کہا، ”اُٹھیں۔ مَیں بھی انسان ہی ہوں۔“

And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

اور اُس سے باتیں کرتے کرتے وہ اندر گیا اور دیکھا کہ بہت سے لوگ جمع ہو گئے ہیں۔

And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

اُس نے اُن سے کہا، ”آپ جانتے ہیں کہ کسی یہودی کے لئے کسی غیریہودی سے رفاقت رکھنا یا اُس کے گھر میں جانا منع ہے۔ لیکن اللہ نے مجھے دکھایا ہے کہ مَیں کسی کو بھی حرام یا ناپاک قرار نہ دوں۔

Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?

اِس وجہ سے جب مجھے بُلایا گیا تو مَیں اعتراض کئے بغیر چلا آیا۔ اب مجھے بتا دیجئے کہ آپ نے مجھے کیوں بُلایا ہے؟“

And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

کُرنیلیُس نے جواب دیا، ”چار دن کی بات ہے کہ مَیں اِسی وقت دوپہر تین بجے دعا کر رہا تھا۔ اچانک ایک آدمی میرے سامنے آ کھڑا ہوا۔ اُس کے کپڑے چمک رہے تھے۔

And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

اُس نے کہا، ’کُرنیلیُس، اللہ نے تمہاری دعا سن لی اور تمہاری خیرات کا خیال کیا ہے۔

Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

اب کسی کو یافا بھیج کر شمعون کو بُلا لو جو پطرس کہلاتا ہے۔ وہ چمڑا رنگنے والے شمعون کا مہمان ہے۔ شمعون کا گھر سمندر کے قریب واقع ہے۔‘

Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

یہ سنتے ہی مَیں نے اپنے لوگوں کو آپ کو بُلانے کے لئے بھیج دیا۔ اچھا ہوا کہ آپ آ گئے ہیں۔ اب ہم سب اللہ کے حضور حاضر ہیں تاکہ وہ کچھ سنیں جو رب نے آپ کو ہمیں بتانے کو کہا ہے۔“

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

پھر پطرس بول اُٹھا، ”اب مَیں سمجھ گیا ہوں کہ اللہ واقعی جانب دار نہیں،

But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

بلکہ ہر کسی کو قبول کرتا ہے جو اُس کا خوف مانتا اور راست کام کرتا ہے۔

The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

آپ اللہ کی اُس خوش خبری سے واقف ہیں جو اُس نے اسرائیلیوں کو بھیجی، یہ خوش خبری کہ عیسیٰ مسیح کے وسیلے سے سلامتی آئی ہے۔ عیسیٰ مسیح سب کا خداوند ہے۔

That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

آپ کو وہ کچھ معلوم ہے جو گلیل سے شروع ہو کر یہودیہ کے پورے علاقے میں ہوا یعنی اُس بپتسمے کے بعد جس کی منادی یحییٰ نے کی۔

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

اور آپ جانتے ہیں کہ اللہ نے عیسیٰ ناصری کو روح القدس اور قوت سے مسح کیا اور کہ اِس پر اُس نے جگہ جگہ جا کر نیک کام کیا اور ابلیس کے دبے ہوئے تمام لوگوں کو شفا دی، کیونکہ اللہ اُس کے ساتھ تھا۔

And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

جو کچھ بھی اُس نے ملکِ یہود اور یروشلم میں کیا، اُس کے گواہ ہم خود ہیں۔ گو لوگوں نے اُسے لکڑی پر لٹکا کر قتل کر دیا

Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

لیکن اللہ نے تیسرے دن اُسے مُردوں میں سے زندہ کیا اور اُسے لوگوں پر ظاہر کیا۔

Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

وہ پوری قوم پر تو ظاہر نہیں ہوا بلکہ ہم پر جن کو اللہ نے پہلے سے چن لیا تھا تاکہ ہم اُس کے گواہ ہوں۔ ہم نے اُس کے جی اُٹھنے کے بعد اُس کے ساتھ کھانے پینے کی رفاقت بھی رکھی۔

And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

اُس وقت اُس نے ہمیں حکم دیا کہ منادی کر کے قوم کو گواہی دو کہ عیسیٰ وہی ہے جسے اللہ نے زندوں اور مُردوں پر منصف مقرر کیا ہے۔

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

تمام نبی اُس کی گواہی دیتے ہیں کہ جو بھی اُس پر ایمان لائے اُسے اُس کے نام کے وسیلے سے گناہوں کی معافی مل جائے گی۔“

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

پطرس ابھی یہ بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ تمام سننے والوں پر روح القدس نازل ہوا۔

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

جو یہودی ایمان دار پطرس کے ساتھ آئے تھے وہ ہکا بکا رہ گئے کہ روح القدس کی نعمت غیریہودیوں پر بھی اُنڈیلی گئی ہے،

For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

کیونکہ اُنہوں نے دیکھا کہ وہ غیرزبانیں بول رہے اور اللہ کی تمجید کر رہے ہیں۔ تب پطرس نے کہا،

Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

”اب کون اِن کو بپتسمہ لینے سے روک سکتا ہے؟ اِنہیں تو ہماری طرح روح القدس حاصل ہوا ہے۔“

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

اور اُس نے حکم دیا کہ اُنہیں عیسیٰ مسیح کے نام سے بپتسمہ دیا جائے۔ اِس کے بعد اُنہوں نے پطرس سے گزارش کی کہ کچھ دن ہمارے پاس ٹھہریں۔
