Matthew 14

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

Того часу прочув Ірод чотиривласник чутки про Ісуса,

And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

і сказав своїм слугам: Це Іван Христитель, він із мертвих воскрес, і тому чуда творяться ним...

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

Бо Ірод схопив був Івана, і зв'язав його, і посадив у в'язницю через Іродіяду, дружину брата свого Пилипа.

For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

Бо до нього Іван говорив: Не годиться тобі її мати!

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

І хотів Ірод смерть заподіяти йому, та боявся народу, бо того за пророка вважали.

But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

А як був день народження Ірода, танцювала посеред гостей дочка Іродіядина, та й Іродові догодила.

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

Тому під присягою він обіцявся їй дати, чого тільки попросить вона.

And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

А вона, за намовою матері своєї: Дай мені проказала отут на полумиску голову Івана Христителя!...

And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

І цар засмутився, але через клятву та тих, хто сидів при столі з ним, звелів дати.

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

І послав стяти Івана в в'язниці.

And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

І принесли на полумискові його голову, та й дали дівчині, а та віднесла її своїй матері...

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

А учні його прибули, взяли тіло, і поховали його, та прийшли й сповістили Ісуса.

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

Як Ісус те почув, Він відплив звідти човном у місце пустинне й самотнє. І, прочувши, народ із міст пішов пішки за Ним.

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

І, як вийшов Ісус, Він побачив багато народу, і змилосердивсь над ними, і їхніх слабих уздоровив.

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

А коли настав вечір, підійшли Його учні до Нього й сказали: Тут місце пустинне, і година вже пізня; відпусти народ, хай по селах розійдуться, і куплять поживи собі.

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

А Ісус їм сказав: Непотрібно відходити їм, нагодуйте їх ви!

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

Вони ж кажуть Йому: Не маємо чим тут, тільки п'ятеро хліба й дві рибі.

He said, Bring them hither to me.

А Він відказав: Принесіть Мені їх сюди.

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

І, звелівши натовпові посідати на траві, Він узяв п'ятеро хліба й дві рибі, споглянув на небо, поблагословив й поламав ті хліби, і дав учням, а учні народові.

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

І всі їли й наситились, а з кусків позосталих назбирали дванадцятеро повних кошів...

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Їдців же було мужа тисяч із п'ять, крім жінок і дітей.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

І зараз звелів Ісус учням до човна сідати, і переплисти на той бік раніше Його, аж поки народ Він відпустить.

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Відпустивши ж народ, Він на гору пішов помолитися насамоті; і як вечір настав, був там Сам.

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

А човен вже був на середині моря, і кидали хвилі його, бо вітер зірвавсь супротивний.

And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

А о четвертій сторожі нічній Ісус підійшов до них, ідучи по морю.

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Як побачили ж учні, що йде Він по морю, то настрашилися та й казали: Мара! І від страху вони закричали...

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

А Ісус до них зараз озвався й сказав: Заспокойтесь, це Я, не лякайтесь!

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

Петро ж відповів і сказав: Коли, Господи, Ти це, то звели, щоб прийшов я до Тебе по воді.

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

А Він відказав йому: Іди. І, вилізши з човна, Петро став іти по воді, і пішов до Ісуса.

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Але, бачачи велику бурю, злякався, і зачав потопати, і скричав: Рятуй мене, Господи!...

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

І зараз Ісус простяг руку й схопив його, і каже до нього: Маловірний, чого усумнився?

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Як до човна ж вони ввійшли, буря вщухнула.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

А приявні в човні вклонились Йому та сказали: Ти справді Син Божий!

And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

Перепливши ж вони, прибули в землю Генісаретську.

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

А люди тієї місцевости, пізнавши Його, сповістили по всій тій околиці, і до Нього принесли всіх хворих.

And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

І благали Його, щоб бодай доторкнутися краю одежі Його. А хто доторкавсь, уздоровлений був.
