Proverbs 1

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

Bu özdeyişler, bilgeliğe ve terbiyeye ulaşmak, Akıllıca sözleri anlamak,

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

Başarıya götüren terbiyeyi edinip Doğru, haklı ve adil olanı yapmak,

To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

Saf kişiyi ihtiyatlı, Genç adamı bilgili ve sağgörülü kılmak içindir.

A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

[] RAB korkusudur bilginin temeli. Ahmaklarsa bilgeliği ve terbiyeyi küçümser.

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Oğlum, babanın uyarılarına kulak ver, Annenin öğrettiklerinden ayrılma.

For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Çünkü bunlar başın için sevimli bir çelenk, Boynun için gerdanlık olacaktır.

My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

Oğlum, seni ayartmaya çalışan günahkârlara teslim olma.

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

Şöyle diyebilirler: “Bizimle gel, Adam öldürmek için pusuya yatalım, Zevk uğruna masum kişileri tuzağa düşürelim.

Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

Onları ölüler diyarı gibi diri diri, Ölüm çukuruna inenler gibi Bütünüyle yutalım.

We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

Bir sürü değerli mal ele geçirir, Evlerimizi ganimetle doldururuz.

Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

Gel, sen de bize katıl, Tek bir kesemiz olacak.”

My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

Oğlum, böyleleriyle gitme, Onların tuttuğu yoldan uzak dur.

For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

[] Çünkü ayakları kötülüğe koşar, Çekinmeden kan dökerler.

Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

Kuşların gözü önünde ağ sermek boşunadır.

And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

Başkasına pusu kuran kendi kurduğu pusuya düşer. Yalnız kendi canıdır tuzağa düşürdüğü.

So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

Haksız kazanca düşkün olanların sonu böyledir. Bu düşkünlük onları canlarından eder.

Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

[] Bilgelik dışarıda yüksek sesle haykırıyor, Meydanlarda sesleniyor.

She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

Kalabalık sokak başlarında bağırıyor, Kentin giriş kapılarında sözlerini duyuruyor:

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

“Ey budalalar, budalalığı ne zamana dek seveceksiniz? Alaycılar ne zamana dek alay etmekten zevk alacak? Akılsızlar ne zamana dek bilgiden nefret edecek?

Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Uyardığımda yola gelin, o zaman size yüreğimi açar, Sözlerimi anlamanıza yardım ederim.

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

Ama sizi çağırdığım zaman beni reddettiniz. Elimi uzattım, umursayan olmadı.

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

Duymazlıktan geldiniz bütün öğütlerimi, Uyarılarımı duymak istemediniz.

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

Bu yüzden ben de felaketinize sevineceğim. Belaya uğradığınızda, Bela üzerinize bir fırtına gibi geldiğinde, Bir kasırga gibi geldiğinde felaketiniz, Sıkıntıya, kaygıya düştüğünüzde, Sizinle alay edeceğim.

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

Bu yüzden ben de felaketinize sevineceğim. Belaya uğradığınızda, Bela üzerinize bir fırtına gibi geldiğinde, Bir kasırga gibi geldiğinde felaketiniz, Sıkıntıya, kaygıya düştüğünüzde, Sizinle alay edeceğim.

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

O zaman beni çağıracaksınız, Ama yanıtlamayacağım. Var gücünüzle arayacaksınız beni, Ama bulamayacaksınız.

For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

Çünkü bilgiden nefret ettiniz. RAB’den korkmayı reddettiniz.

They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

Öğütlerimi istemediniz, Uyarılarımın tümünü küçümsediniz.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Bu nedenle tuttuğunuz yolun meyvesini yiyeceksiniz, Kendi düzenbazlığınıza doyacaksınız.

For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

Bön adamlar dönekliklerinin kurbanı olacak. Akılsızlar kaygısızlıklarının içinde yok olup gidecek.

But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Ama beni dinleyen güvenlik içinde yaşayacak, Kötülükten korkmayacak, huzur bulacak.”
