Genesis 11

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

در آن ‌زمان‌ مردم ‌سراسر جهان ‌فقط ‌یک ‌زبان ‌داشتند و كلمات ‌آنها یكی بود.

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

وقتی‌که ‌از مشرق ‌كوچ ‌می‌كردند، به دشت ‌همواری در سرزمین‌ شنعار رسیدند و در آنجا ساكن‌ شدند.

And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

آنها به‌ یكدیگر گفتند: «بیایید خشت ‌بزنیم ‌و آنها را خوب‌ بپزیم‌.» آنها به ‌جای سنگ‌، آجر، و به ‌جای گچ‌، قیر داشتند.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

پس‌ به‌ یكدیگر گفتند: «بیایید شهری برای خود بسازیم ‌و بُرجی بنا كنیم ‌كه ‌سرش‌ به‌ آسمان ‌برسد و به‌ این ‌وسیله ‌نام ‌خود را مشهور ‌بسازیم‌. مبادا در روی زمین‌ پراكنده‌ شویم‌.»

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

بعد از آن‌، خداوند پایین‌ آمد تا شهر و بُرجی را كه‌ آن‌ مردم‌ ساخته ‌بودند، ببیند.

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

آنگاه‌ فرمود: «حال دیگر تمام ‌این‌ مردم‌، یكی هستند و زبانشان‌ هم‌ یكی است‌. این ‌تازه اول كار آنهاست ‌و هیچ‌ كاری نیست‌ كه ‌انجام‌ آن‌ برای آنها غیر ممكن ‌باشد.

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

پس‌ ‌پایین‌ برویم ‌و وحدت ‌زبان‌ آنها را از بین‌ ببریم ‌تا زبان ‌یكدیگر را نفهمند.»

So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

پس‌ خداوند آنها را در سراسر روی زمین ‌پراكنده‌ كرد و آنها نتوانستند آن ‌شهر را بسازند.

Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

اسم آن ‌شهر را بابل‌ گذاشتند، چونكه‌ خداوند در آنجا وحدت‌ زبان‌ تمام‌ مردم‌ را از بین ‌برد و آنها را در سراسر روی زمین‌ پراكنده ‌كرد.

These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

اینها فرزندان‌ سام‌ بودند: دو سال ‌بعد از توفان‌، وقتی كه‌ سام ‌صد ساله ‌بود، پسرش ‌ارفكشاد به دنیا آمد.

And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن ‌پانصد سال‌ دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران ‌دیگر شد.

And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:

وقتی ارفكشاد سی و پنج‌ ساله بود، پسرش‌ شالح به دنیا آمد.

And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن‌ چهارصد و سه‌ سال ‌دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران ‌دیگر شد.

And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

وقتی شالح ‌سی ساله بود، پسرش ‌عابر به دنیا آمد.

And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن‌ چهارصد و سه ‌سال‌ دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران ‌دیگر شد.

And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:

وقتی عابر سی و چهار ساله ‌بود، پسرش‌ فالج ‌به‌ دنیا آمد.

And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن‌ چهارصد و سی سال‌ دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران ‌دیگر شد.

And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

وقتی فالج‌ سی ساله‌ بود، پسرش ‌رعو به دنیا آمد.

And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن‌ دویست‌ و نه‌ سال‌ دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران‌ دیگر شد.

And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:

وقتی رعو سی و دو ساله بود، پسرش ‌سروج به دنیا آمد.

And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن‌ دویست‌ و هفت‌ سال‌ دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران‌ دیگر شد.

And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

وقتی سروج ‌سی ساله ‌بود، پسرش ‌ناحور به دنیا آمد.

And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن‌ دویست‌ سال ‌دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران‌ دیگر شد.

And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:

وقتی ناحور بیست ‌و نه ‌ساله ‌بود، پسرش‌ تارح به دنیا آمد.

And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

بعد از آن‌ صد و نوزده ‌سال‌ دیگر زندگی كرد و دارای پسران‌ و دختران ‌دیگر شد.

And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

بعد از اینکه تارح‌ هفتاد ساله ‌شد، پسران ‌او اَبرام‌، ناحور و هاران‌ به دنیا آمدند.

Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

اینها فرزندان‌ تارح ‌هستند: تارح‌ پدر اَبرام‌، ناحور و هاران ‌بود و هاران ‌پدر لوط‌ بود.

And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

هاران ‌در زادگاه ‌خود در اوركلدانیان -‌هنگامی كه‌ هنوز پدرش‌ زنده‌ بود- مرد.

And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

اَبرام‌ با سارای ازدواج‌ كرد و ناحور با مِلكَه ‌دختر هاران‌ ازدواج ‌نمود. هاران ‌پدر یسكه ‌هم‌ بود.

But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

امّا سارای نازا بود و فرزندی به دنیا نیاورد.

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

تارح‌، پسرش ‌اَبرام‌ و نوه‌اش‌ لوط ‌پسر هاران ‌و عروسش ‌سارای زن ‌اَبرام‌ را برداشت‌ و با آنها از اور كلدانیان ‌به‌ طرف ‌سرزمین ‌كنعان‌ بیرون ‌رفت‌. آنها رفتند تا به‌ حرّان ‌رسیدند و در آنجا اقامت‌ كردند.

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

تارح‌ در آنجا در سن‌ دویست‌ و پنج ‌سالگی مرد.
