Genesis 12

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

خداوند به ‌اَبرام ‌فرمود: «وطن‌ خود، بستگانت‌ و خانهٔ پدری خود را ترک‌ كن ‌و به ‌طرف‌ سرزمینی كه ‌به ‌تو نشان‌ می‌دهم‌ برو.

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

من ‌به ‌تو قومی كثیر خواهم‌ داد و آنان ‌ملّتی بزرگ‌ خواهند شد. من ‌تو را بركت ‌خواهم ‌داد و نام تو مشهور و معروف ‌خواهد شد، لذا تو خودت‌ مایهٔ بركت‌ خواهی بود.

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

«به‌ کسانی‌‌که ‌تو را بركت‌ دهند، بركت‌ خواهم ‌داد. امّا به‌ کسانی‌‌که ‌تو را لعنت ‌كنند، لعنت ‌خواهم ‌كرد، و به‌ وسیلهٔ تو همهٔ ملّتها را بركت‌ خواهم‌ داد.»

So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

همان‌طور كه ‌خداوند فرموده‌ بود، هنگامی كه‌ اَبرام‌ هفتاد و پنج ‌سال‌ داشت‌ از حرّان ‌خارج‌ شد. لوط ‌هم‌ همراه ‌او بود.

And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

اَبرام ‌زن‌ خود سارای و لوط‌-پسر برادرش- و تمام ‌دارایی و غلامانی را كه‌ در حرّان ‌به‌ دست‌ آورده ‌بود، با خود برد و آنها به ‌طرف‌ سرزمین ‌كنعان ‌حركت‌ كردند. وقتی‌ آنها به ‌سرزمین‌ كنعان ‌رسیدند،

And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

اَبرام ‌در آنجا گشت ‌تا به ‌درخت‌ مقدّس‌ موره‌ در زمین ‌شكیم ‌رسید. (در آن‌ موقع ‌كنعانیان ‌هنوز در آن‌ سرزمین ‌زندگی می‌كردند.)

And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

خداوند به‌ اَبرام‌ ظاهر شد و به ‌او فرمود: «این‌ سرزمینی است‌ كه ‌من ‌به‌ نسل ‌تو می‌دهم‌.» پس ‌اَبرام‌ در آنجا كه‌ خداوند خود را بر او ظاهر كرده‌ بود، قربانگاهی بنا كرد.

And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth–el, and pitched his tent, having Beth–el on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

بعد از آن ‌او حركت‌ کرده‌ به ‌طرف ‌تپّه‌های شرقی شهر بیت‌ئیل ‌رفت‌ و اردوی خود را بین ‌بیت‌ئیل‌ در مغرب‌ و عای در مشرق ‌بنا كرد. در آنجا نیز قربانگاهی برای خداوند بنا كرد و خداوند را پرستش‌ نمود.

And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

او دوباره ‌از آنجا به‌ جای دیگر كوچ‌ كرد و به‌ جنوب ‌كنعان ‌رفت‌.

And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.

امّا در كنعان‌ قحطی بسیار شدیدی شده ‌بود. به‌ همین ‌علّت‌، اَبرام ‌باز هم‌ به ‌طرف‌ جنوب ‌رفت ‌تا به‌ مصر رسید تا برای مدّتی در آنجا زندگی كند.

And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:

وقتی به‌ مرز مصر رسیدند، اَبرام ‌به‌ زن‌ خود سارای گفت‌: «می‌دانم ‌كه ‌تو زن‌ زیبایی هستی‌،

Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.

پس‌، وقتی مصریان‌ تو را با من‌ ببینند و بفهمند كه‌ تو همسر من‌ هستی‌، به ‌همین ‌دلیل ‌مرا می‌كشند و تو را زنده ‌نگاه ‌می‌دارند.

Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

پس ‌به آنها بگو كه ‌تو خواهر من‌ هستی‌ تا به‌خاطر تو مرا نكشند و با من ‌به ‌خوبی رفتار كنند.»

And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.

وقتی اَبرام ‌از مرز گذشته‌ به ‌مصر داخل ‌شد، مصریان‌ دیدند كه‌ همسر او زیباست‌.

The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.

بعضی از درباریان‌ سارای را دیده‌ و از زیبایی او به‌ فرعون‌ خبر دادند، پس او را به‌ کاخ فرعون‌ بردند.

And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.

پادشاه‌ به‌ خاطر سارای‌، با اَبرام‌ بسیار خوب ‌رفتار كرد و به ‌او گلّه‌های گوسفند و بُز و گاو و الاغ ‌و شتر و غلامان‌ زیادی بخشید.

And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.

امّا به‌ خاطر اینكه ‌فرعون، سارای -‌زن‌ اَبرام- را گرفته‌ بود، خداوند بلاهایی سخت ‌بر او و بر كسانی‌كه‌ در دربار او بودند، فرستاد.

And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?

پس فرعون‌ به‌ دنبال ‌اَبرام ‌فرستاد و از او پرسید: «این‌ چه‌ كاری بود كه ‌كردی‌؟ چرا به ‌من‌ نگفتی كه ‌این ‌زن ‌همسر توست‌؟

Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

چرا گفتی كه‌ او خواهر توست ‌و گذاشتی من‌ او را به ‌همسری خود بگیرم‌؟ این‌ زن‌ توست‌، او را بردار و از اینجا برو.»

And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

فرعون ‌به ‌نوكران‌ خود دستور داد و آنها اَبرام‌ را با زنش ‌و هرچه ‌داشت ‌برده ‌از مصر بیرون ‌كردند.
