Matthew 14

उस समय गलील के शासक हेरोदेस ने जब यीशु के बारे में सुना

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

तो उसने अपने सेवकों से कहा, “यह बपतिस्मा देने वाला यूहन्ना है जो मरे हुओं में से जी उठा है। और इसीलिये ये शक्तियाँ उसमें काम कर रही हैं। जिनसे यह इन चमत्कारों को करता है।”

And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

यह वही हेरोदेस था जिसने यूहन्ना को बंदी बना, जंजीरों में बाँध, जेल में डाल दिया था। यह उसने हिरोदियास के कहने पर किया था, जो पहले उसके भाई फिलिप्पुस की पत्नी थी।

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

यूहन्ना प्रायः उससे कहा करता था कि “तुझे इसके साथ नहीं रहना चाहिये।”

For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

सो हेरोदेस उसे मार डालना चाहता था, पर वह लोगों से डरता था क्योंकि लोग यूहन्ना को नबी मानते थे।

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

पर जब हेरोदेस का जन्म दिन आया तो हिरोदियास की बेटी ने हेरोदेस और उसके मेहमानों के सामने नाच कर हेरोदेस को इतना प्रसन्न किया

But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

कि उसने शपथ लेकर, वह जो कुछ चाहे, उसे देने का वचन दिया।

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

अपनी माँ के सिखावे में आकर उसने कहा, “मुझे थाली में रख कर बपतिस्मा देने वाले यूहन्ना का सिर दें।”

And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

यद्यपि राजा बहुत दुःखी था किन्तु अपनी शपथ और अपने मेहमानों के कारण उसने उसकी माँग पूरी करने का आदेश दे दिया।

And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

उसने जेल में यूहन्ना का सिर काटने के लिये आदमी भेजे।

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

सो यूहन्ना का सिर थाली में रख कर लाया गया और उसे लड़की को दे दिया गया। वह उसे अपनी माँ के पास ले गयी।

And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

तब यूहन्ना के अनुयायी आये और उन्होंने उसके धड़ को लेकर दफना दिया। और फिर उन्होंने आकर यीशु को बताया।

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

जब यीशु ने इसकी चर्चा सुनी तो वह वहाँ से नाव में किसी एकान्त स्थान पर अकेला चला गया। किन्तु जब भीड़ को इसका पता चला तो वे अपने नगरों से पैदल ही उसके पीछे हो लिये।

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

यीशु जब नाव से बाहर निकल कर किनारे पर आया तो उसने एक बड़ी भीड़ देखी। उसे उन पर दया आयी और उसने उनके बीमारों को अच्छा किया।

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

जब शाम हुई तो उसके शिष्यों ने उसके पास आकर कहा, “यह सुनसान जगह है और बहुत देर भी हो चुकी है, सो भीड़ को विदा कर, ताकि वे गाँव में जाकर अपने लिये खाना मोल ले लें।”

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

किन्तु यीशु ने उनसे कहा, “इन्हें कहीं जाने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। तुम इन्हें कुछ खाने को दो।”

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

उन्होंने उससे कहा, “हमारे पास पाँच रोटियों और दो मछलियों को छोड़ कर और कुछ नहीं है।”

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

यीशु ने कहा, “उन्हें मेरे पास ले आओ।”

He said, Bring them hither to me.

उसने भीड़ के लोगों से कहा कि वे घास पर बैठ जायें। फिर उसने वे पाँच रोटियाँ और दो मछलियाँ लेकर स्वर्ग की ओर देखा और भोजन के लिये परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद किया। फिर रोटी के टुकड़े तोड़े और उन्हें अपने शिष्यों को दे दिया। शिष्यों ने वे टुकड़े लोगों में बाँट दिये।

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

सभी ने छक कर खाया। इसके बाद बचे हुए टुकड़ों से उसके शिष्यों ने बारह टोकरियाँ भरीं।

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

स्त्रियों और बच्चों को छोड़ कर वहाँ खाने वाले कोई पाँच हज़ार पुरुष थे।

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

इसके तुरंत बाद यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों को नाव पर चढ़ाया और जब तक वह भीड़ को विदा करे, उनसे गलील की झील के पार अपने से पहले ही जाने को कहा।

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

भीड़ को विदा करके वह अकेले में प्रार्थना करने को पहाड़ पर चला गया। साँझ होने पर वह वहाँ अकेला था।

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

तब तक नाव किनारे से मीलों दूर जा चुकी थी और लहरों में थपेड़े खाती डगमगा रही थी। सामने की हवा चल रही थी।

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

सुबह कोई तीन और छः बजे के बीच यीशु झील पर चलता हुआ उनके पास आया।

And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

उसके शिष्यों ने जब उसे झील पर चलते हुए देखा तो वह घबराये हुए आपस में कहने लगे “यह तो कोई भूत है!” वे डर के मारे चीख उठे।

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

यीशु ने तत्काल उनसे बात करते हुए कहा, “हिम्मत रखो! यह मैं हूँ! अब और मत डरो।”

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

पतरस ने उत्तर देते हुए उससे कहा, “प्रभु, यदि यह तू है, तो मुझे पानी पर चलकर अपने पास आने को कह।”

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

यीशु ने कहा, “चला आ।” पतरस नाव से निकल कर पानी पर यीशु की तरफ चल पड़ा।

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

उसने जब तेज हवा देखी तो वह घबराया। वह डूबने लगा और चिल्लाया, “प्रभु, मेरी रक्षा कर।”

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

यीशु ने तत्काल उसके पास पहुँच कर उसे सँभाल लिया और उससे बोला, “ओ अल्पविश्वासी, तूने संदेह क्यों किया?”

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

और वे नाव पर चढ़ आये। हवा थम गयी।

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

नाव पर के लोगों ने यीशु की उपासना की और कहा, “तू सचमुच परमेश्वर का पुत्र है।”

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

सो झील पार करके वे गन्नेसरत के तट पर उतर गये।

And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

जब वहाँ रहने वालों ने यीशु को पहचाना तो उन्होंने उसके आने का समाचार आसपास सब कहीं भिजवा दिया। जिससे लोग-जो रोगी थे, उन सब को वहाँ ले आये

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

और उससे प्रार्थना करने लगे कि वह उन्हें अपने वस्त्र का बस किनारा ही छू लेने दे। और जिन्होंने छू लिया, वे सब पूरी तरह चंगे हो गये।

And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
