Proverbs 14

Viisas vaimo rakentaa huoneensa, vaan hullu kukistaa sen teollansa.

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Joka vaeltaa oikiaa tietä, se pelkää Herraa; mutta se, joka poikkee pois tieltänsä, ylönkatsoo hänen.

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

Tyhmän suussa on ylpeyden vitsa; vaan viisasten huulet varjelevat heitä.

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Jossa ei härkiä ole, siinä seimet puhtaana ovat; vaan jossa juhdat työtä tekevät, siinä tuloa kyllä on.

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

Totinen todistaja välttää valhetta; vaan väärä todistaja rohkiasti valhettelee.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

Pilkkaaja etsii viisautta, ja ei löydä; vaan toimelliset viisauden huokiasti saavat.

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

Mene pois tyhmän tyköä; sillä et sinä opi mitään häneltä.

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

Toimellisen viisaus on teistänsä ottaa vaarin; vaan tyhmäin hulluus on sula petos.

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

Tyhmä nauraa syntiä, mutta hurskasten välillä on hyvä suosio.

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Koska sydän on murheellinen, niin ei auta ulkonainen ilo.

The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

Jumalattomain huoneet kukistetaan, vaan jumalisten majat viheriöitsevät.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

Monella on tie mielestänsä oikia, vaan viimeiseltä johdattaa se kuolemaan.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Naurun jälkeen tulee murhe, ja ilon perästä suru.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

Tyhmälle tapahtuu laittamisensa jälkeen, vaan hyvä ihminen asetetaan hänen ylitsensä.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

Taitamatoin uskoo kaikki, mutta ymmärtäväinen ottaa teistänsä vaarin.

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Viisas pelkää ja karttaa pahaa, vaan tyhmä päätähavin menee.

A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

Äkillinen ihminen tekee hullun töitä, ja kavala ihminen tulee vihattavaksi.

He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

Taitamattomat perivät tyhmyyden; vaan se on toimellisten kruunu, että he toimellisesti tekevät.

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Häijyn täytyy kumartaa hyviä, ja jumalattomat vanhurskasten porteissa.

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

Köyhää vihaavat hänen lähimmäisensäkin; vaan rikkaalla on monta ystävää.

The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

Joka katsoo lähimmäisensä ylön. hän tekee syntiä; vaan autuas on se, joka viheliäistä armahtaa.

He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

Jotka viekkaudessa vaeltavat, niiltä puuttuu; mutta jotka hyvää ajattelevat, niille tapahtuu hyvyys ja uskollisuus.

Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

Jossa työtä tehdään, siinä kyllä on; vaan joka tyhjiin puheisiin tyytyy, siinä on köyhyys.

In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

Viisasten rikkaus on heidän kruununsa, mutta tyhmäin hulluus on hulluus.

The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.

Uskollinen todistaja vapahtaa hengen, vaan väärä todistaja pettää.

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

Joka Herraa pelkää, hänellä on vahva linna, ja hänen lapsensa varjellaan.

In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Herran pelko on elämän lähde, että kuoleman nuora välttää taidetaan.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Koska kuninkaalla on paljo väkeä, se on hänen kunniansa; vaan koska vähä on väkeä, se tekee päämiehen kehnoksi.

In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

Joka on pitkämielinen, se on viisas; vaan joka äkillinen on, se ilmoittaa tyhmyyden.

He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

Leppyinen sydän on ruumiin elämä; vaan kateus on märkä luissa.

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

Joka köyhälle tekee väkivaltaa, hän laittaa hänen luojaansa; vaan joka armahtaa vaivaista, se kunnioittaa Jumalaa.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

Pahuutensa tähden jumalatoin kukistetaan; vaan vanhurskas on kuolemassakin rohkia.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

Toimellisen sydämessä lepää viisaus; mutta mitä tyhmäin mielessä on, se tulee ilmi.

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

Vanhurskaus korottaa kansan, vaan synti on kansan häpiä.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Toimellinen palvelia on kuninkaalle otollinen; vaan häpiällistä palveliaa ei hän kärsi.

The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
