Luke 3

در پانزدهمین سال حكومت طیبریوس قیصر، وقتی پنطیوس پیلاطس فرماندار یهودیه و هیرودیس، حاكم استان جلیل و برادرش فیلیپُس، حاكم استانهای ایتوریه و نواحی ترخونیتس، و لیسانیوس حاكم آبلیه بود،

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cæsar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judæa, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,

یعنی در زمانی‌که حنا و قیافا كاهنان اعظم بودند، كلام خدا در بیابان به یحیی پسر زكریا رسید.

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

او به تمام نواحی اطراف رود اردن می‌رفت و اعلام می‌کرد كه مردم توبه كنند و برای آمرزش گناهان خود تعمید بگیرند.

And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

همچنان‌که در كتاب اشعیای نبی آمده است: «شخصی در بیابان فریاد می‌زند: راهی برای خداوند آماده سازید، طریق او را راست نمایید.

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

درّه‌ها پر شوند، کوهها و تپّه‌ها صاف گردند، کجی‌ها راست خواهند شد راههای ناهموار هموار خواهند گشت

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

و همهٔ آدمیان نجات خدا را خواهند دید.»

And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

انبوه مردم می‌آمدند تا از دست یحیای تعمید بگیرند. او به ایشان گفت: «ای مارها، چه كسی شما را آگاه ساخت تا از خشم و غضب آینده بگریزید؟

Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

پس توبهٔ خود را با ثمراتی كه به بار می‌آورید، نشان دهید و پیش خود نگویید كه ما پدری مانند ابراهیم داریم. بدانید كه خدا قادر است از این سنگها فرزندانی برای ابراهیم بیافریند.

Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

تیشه بر ریشهٔ درختان گذاشته شده و هر درختی كه میوهٔ خوب به بار نیاورد، بریده و در آتش افكنده خواهد شد.»

And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

مردم از او پرسیدند: «پس تكلیف ما چیست؟»

And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

او پاسخ داد: «آن کسی‌که دو پیراهن دارد، باید یكی از آنها را به کسی‌که ندارد بدهد و هرکه خوراک دارد، باید همچنین كند.»

He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

باجگیران هم برای گرفتن تعمید آمدند و از او پرسیدند: «ای استاد، ما چه باید بكنیم؟»

Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?

به ایشان گفت: «بیش از آنچه مقرّر شده مطالبه نكنید.»

And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.

سپاهیان هم پرسیدند: «ما چه ‌كنیم؟» به آنان گفت: «از كسی بزور پول نگیرید و تهمت ناروا نزنید و به حقوق خود قانع باشید.»

And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

مردم در انتظار به سر می‌بردند و از یكدیگر می‌پرسیدند كه آیا یحیی مسیح موعود است یا نه.

And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;

امّا او چنین جواب داد: «من شما را با آب تعمید می‌دهم امّا كسی خواهد آمد كه از من تواناتر است و من لایق آن نیستم كه بند كفش او را باز كنم. او شما را با روح‌القدس و آتش تعمید خواهد داد.

John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

او چنگال خود را در دست دارد تا خرمن خود را پاک كند و گندم را در انبار جمع نماید، امّا كاه را در آتشی خاموش نشدنی، خواهد سوزانید.»

Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

یحیی با راههای بسیار و گوناگون مردم را تشویق می‌کرد و به آنها بشارت می‌داد

And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.

امّا هیرودیس، كه بر سر موضوع زن برادرش هیرودیا و خلافکاریهای دیگر خود مورد سرزنش یحیی واقع شده بود،

But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,

با انداختن یحیی به زندان مرتكب كاری بدتر از همه شد.

Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

پس از آنكه همه تعمید گرفتند، عیسی نیز تعمید گرفت و به دعا مشغول بود كه آسمان گشوده شد

Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

و روح‌القدس به صورت كبوتری بر او نازل شد و صدایی از آسمان آمد: «تو پسر عزیز من هستی. از تو خشنودم.»

And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

وقتی عیسی مأموریت خود را شروع كرد در حدود سی سال از عمرش گذشته بود و برحسب تصوّر مردم او پسر یوسف بود و یوسف پسر هالی،

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

پسر مَتات، پسر لاوی، پسر مِلكی، پسر ینا، پسر یوسف،

Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

پسر مَتاتیا، پسر آموس، پسر ناحوم، پسر حِسلی، پسر نَجی،

Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,

پسر مأت، پسر مَتاتیا، پسر شِمعی، پسر یوسف، پسر یهودا،

Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda,

پسر یوحنا، پسر ریسا، پسر زروبابل، پسر شالتیئیل، پسر نیری،

Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri,

پسر مِلكی، پسر اَدی، پسر قوسام، پسر ایلمودام، پسر عیر،

Which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of Er,

پسر یوسی، پسر الیعزر، پسر یوریم، پسر مَتات، پسر لاوی،

Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi,

پسر شَمعون، پسر یهودا، پسر یوسف، پسر یونان، پسر ایلیاقیم،

Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim,

پسر مِلیا، پسر مینان، پسر مَتاتا، پسر ناتان، پسر داوود،

Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,

پسر یَسی، پسر عوبید، پسر بوعز، پسر شَلمون، پسر نَحشون،

Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Booz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson,

پسر عمیناداب، پسر ارام، پسر حَصرون، پسر فارص، پسر یهودا،

Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda,

پسر یعقوب، پسر اسحاق، پسر ابراهیم، پسر تارح، پسر ناحور،

Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor,

پسر سروج، پسر رعو، پسر فالج، پسر عابر، پسر صالح،

Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,

پسر قینان، پسر ارفكشاد، پسر سام، پسر نوح، پسر لامَک،

Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,

پسر متوشالَح، پسر خنوخ، پسر یارد، پسر مَهلئیل، پسر قینان،

Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan,

پسر انوش، پسر شیث، پسر آدم بود و آدم از خدا بود.

Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
