Acts 5

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

ایک اَور آدمی تھا جس نے اپنی بیوی کے ساتھ مل کر اپنی کوئی زمین بیچ دی۔ اُن کے نام حننیاہ اور سفیرہ تھے۔

And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

لیکن حننیاہ پوری رقم رسولوں کے پاس نہ لایا بلکہ اُس میں سے کچھ اپنے لئے رکھ چھوڑا اور باقی رسولوں کے پاؤں میں رکھ دیا۔ اُس کی بیوی بھی اِس بات سے واقف تھی۔

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

لیکن پطرس نے کہا، ”حننیاہ، ابلیس نے آپ کے دل کو یوں کیوں بھر دیا ہے کہ آپ نے روح القدس سے جھوٹ بولا ہے؟ کیونکہ آپ نے زمین کی رقم کے کچھ پیسے اپنے پاس رکھ لئے ہیں۔

Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

کیا یہ زمین فروخت کرنے سے پہلے آپ کی نہیں تھی؟ اور اُسے بیچ کر کیا آپ پیسے جیسے چاہتے استعمال نہیں کر سکتے تھے؟ آپ نے کیوں اپنے دل میں یہ ٹھان لیا؟ آپ نے ہمیں نہیں بلکہ اللہ کو دھوکا دیا ہے۔“

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

یہ سنتے ہی حننیاہ فرش پر گر کر مر گیا۔ اور تمام سننے والوں پر بڑی دہشت طاری ہو گئی۔

And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

جماعت کے نوجوانوں نے اُٹھ کر لاش کو کفن میں لپیٹ دیا اور اُسے باہر لے جا کر دفن کر دیا۔

And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

تقریباً تین گھنٹے گزر گئے تو اُس کی بیوی اندر آئی۔ اُسے معلوم نہ تھا کہ شوہر کو کیا ہوا ہے۔

And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

پطرس نے اُس سے پوچھا، ”مجھے بتائیں، کیا آپ کو اپنی زمین کے لئے اِتنی ہی رقم ملی تھی؟“ سفیرہ نے جواب دیا، ”جی، اِتنی ہی رقم تھی۔“

Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

پطرس نے کہا، ”کیوں آپ دونوں رب کے روح کو آزمانے پر متفق ہوئے؟ دیکھو، جنہوں نے آپ کے خاوند کو دفنایا ہے وہ دروازے پر کھڑے ہیں اور آپ کو بھی اُٹھا کر باہر لے جائیں گے۔“

Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

اُسی لمحے سفیرہ پطرس کے پاؤں میں گر کر مر گئی۔ نوجوان اندر آئے تو اُس کی لاش دیکھ کر اُسے بھی باہر لے گئے اور اُس کے شوہر کے پاس دفن کر دیا۔

And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

پوری جماعت بلکہ ہر سننے والے پر بڑا خوف طاری ہو گیا۔

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.

رسولوں کی معرفت عوام میں بہت سے الٰہی نشان اور معجزے ظاہر ہوئے۔ اُس وقت تمام ایمان دار یک دلی سے بیت المُقدّس میں سلیمان کے برآمدے میں جمع ہوا کرتے تھے۔

And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

باقی لوگ اُن سے قریبی تعلق رکھنے کی جرٲت نہیں کرتے تھے، اگرچہ عوام اُن کی بہت عزت کرتے تھے۔

And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

توبھی خداوند پر ایمان رکھنے والے مرد و خواتین کی تعداد بڑھتی گئی۔

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

لوگ اپنے مریضوں کو چارپائیوں اور چٹائیوں پر رکھ کر سڑکوں پر لاتے تھے تاکہ جب پطرس وہاں سے گزرے تو کم از کم اُس کا سایہ کسی نہ کسی پر پڑ جائے۔

There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

بہت سے لوگ یروشلم کے ارد گرد کی آبادیوں سے بھی اپنے مریضوں اور بدروح گرفتہ عزیزوں کو لاتے، اور سب شفا پاتے تھے۔

Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

پھر امامِ اعظم صدوقی فرقے کے تمام ساتھیوں کے ساتھ حرکت میں آیا۔ حسد سے جل کر

And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

اُنہوں نے رسولوں کو گرفتار کر کے عوامی جیل میں ڈال دیا۔

But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

لیکن رات کو رب کا ایک فرشتہ قیدخانے کے دروازوں کو کھول کر اُنہیں باہر لایا۔ اُس نے کہا،

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

”جاؤ، بیت المُقدّس میں کھڑے ہو کر لوگوں کو اِس نئی زندگی سے متعلق سب باتیں سناؤ۔“

And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

فرشتے کی سن کر رسول صبح سویرے بیت المُقدّس میں جا کر تعلیم دینے لگے۔ اب ایسا ہوا کہ امامِ اعظم اپنے ساتھیوں سمیت پہنچا اور یہودی عدالتِ عالیہ کا اجلاس منعقد کیا۔ اِس میں اسرائیل کے تمام بزرگ شریک ہوئے۔ پھر اُنہوں نے اپنے ملازموں کو قیدخانے میں بھیج دیا تاکہ رسولوں کو لا کر اُن کے سامنے پیش کیا جائے۔

But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,

لیکن جب وہ وہاں پہنچے تو پتا چلا کہ رسول جیل میں نہیں ہیں۔ وہ واپس آئے اور کہنے لگے،

Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

”جب ہم پہنچے تو جیل بڑی احتیاط سے بند تھی اور دروازوں پر پہرے دار کھڑے تھے۔ لیکن جب ہم دروازوں کو کھول کر اندر گئے تو وہاں کوئی نہیں تھا!“

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

یہ سن کر بیت المُقدّس کے پہرے داروں کا کپتان اور راہنما امام بڑی اُلجھن میں پڑ گئے اور سوچنے لگے کہ اب کیا ہو گا؟

Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

اِتنے میں کوئی آ کر کہنے لگا، ”بات سنیں، جن آدمیوں کو آپ نے جیل میں ڈالا تھا وہ بیت المُقدّس میں کھڑے لوگوں کو تعلیم دے رہے ہیں۔“

Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

تب بیت المُقدّس کے پہرے داروں کا کپتان اپنے ملازموں کے ساتھ رسولوں کے پاس گیا اور اُنہیں لایا، لیکن زبردستی نہیں، کیونکہ وہ ڈرتے تھے کہ جمع شدہ لوگ اُنہیں سنگسار نہ کر دیں۔

And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

چنانچہ اُنہوں نے رسولوں کو لا کر اجلاس کے سامنے کھڑا کیا۔ امامِ اعظم اُن سے مخاطب ہوا،

Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

”ہم نے تو تم کو سختی سے منع کیا تھا کہ اِس آدمی کا نام لے کر تعلیم نہ دو۔ اِس کے برعکس تم نے نہ صرف اپنی تعلیم یروشلم کی ہر جگہ تک پہنچا دی ہے بلکہ ہمیں اِس آدمی کی موت کے ذمہ دار بھی ٹھہرانا چاہتے ہو۔“

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

پطرس اور باقی رسولوں نے جواب دیا، ”لازم ہے کہ ہم پہلے اللہ کی سنیں، پھر انسان کی۔

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

ہمارے باپ دادا کے خدا نے عیسیٰ کو زندہ کر دیا، اُسی شخص کو جسے آپ نے صلیب پر چڑھوا کر مار ڈالا تھا۔

Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

اللہ نے اُسی کو حکمران اور نجات دہندہ کی حیثیت سے سرفراز کر کے اپنے دہنے ہاتھ بٹھا لیا تاکہ وہ اسرائیل کو توبہ اور گناہوں کی معافی کا موقع فراہم کرے۔

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

ہم خود اِن باتوں کے گواہ ہیں اور روح القدس بھی، جسے اللہ نے اپنے فرماں برداروں کو دے دیا ہے۔“

When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

یہ سن کر عدالت کے لوگ طیش میں آ کر اُنہیں قتل کرنا چاہتے تھے۔

Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

لیکن ایک فریسی عالِم اجلاس میں کھڑا ہوا جس کا نام جملی ایل تھا۔ پوری قوم میں وہ عزت دار تھا۔ اُس نے حکم دیا کہ رسولوں کو تھوڑی دیر کے لئے اجلاس سے نکال دیا جائے۔

And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

پھر اُس نے کہا، ”میرے اسرائیلی بھائیو، غور سے سوچیں کہ آپ اِن آدمیوں کے ساتھ کیا کریں گے۔

For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

کیونکہ کچھ دیر ہوئی تھیوداس اُٹھ کر کہنے لگا کہ مَیں کوئی خاص شخص ہوں۔ تقریباً 400 آدمی اُس کے پیچھے لگ گئے۔ لیکن اُسے قتل کیا گیا اور اُس کے پیروکار بکھر گئے۔ اُن کی سرگرمیوں سے کچھ نہ ہوا۔

After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

اِس کے بعد مردم شماری کے دنوں میں یہوداہ گلیلی اُٹھا۔ اُس نے بھی کافی لوگوں کو اپنے پیروکار بنا کر بغاوت کرنے پر اُکسایا۔ لیکن اُسے بھی مار دیا گیا اور اُس کے پیروکار منتشر ہوئے۔

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

یہ پیشِ نظر رکھ کر میرا مشورہ یہ ہے کہ اِن لوگوں کو چھوڑ دیں، اِنہیں جانے دیں۔ اگر اِن کا ارادہ یا سرگرمیاں انسانی ہیں تو سب کچھ خود بخود ختم ہو جائے گا۔

But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

لیکن اگر یہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے تو آپ اِنہیں ختم نہیں کر سکیں گے۔ ایسا نہ ہو کہ آخرکار آپ اللہ ہی کے خلاف لڑ رہے ہوں۔“ حاضرین نے اُس کی بات مان لی۔

And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

اُنہوں نے رسولوں کو بُلا کر اُن کو کوڑے لگوائے۔ پھر اُنہوں نے اُنہیں عیسیٰ کا نام لے کر بولنے سے منع کیا اور پھر جانے دیا۔

And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

رسول یہودی عدالتِ عالیہ سے نکل کر چلے گئے۔ یہ بات اُن کے لئے بڑی خوشی کا باعث تھی کہ اللہ نے ہمیں اِس لائق سمجھا ہے کہ عیسیٰ کے نام کی خاطر بےعزت ہو جائیں۔

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

اِس کے بعد بھی وہ روزانہ بیت المُقدّس اور مختلف گھروں میں جا جا کر سکھاتے اور اِس خوش خبری کی منادی کرتے رہے کہ عیسیٰ ہی مسیح ہے۔
